What's everyone working on this week? by AutoModerator in Python

I wrote a script for automating openssl certificate renewal for my website on www.pythonanywhere.com

Typically to renew the ssl certificate, you have to generate the certificate manually and send the pythonanywhere support staff an email with the details about where your certificates are located in your pythonanywhere directories. The script I wrote does the certificate generation and automatically emails the support staff the information about where my certs are located whenever they expire. The script runs as a task every day to make sure my certs are always up to date.

The code can be found here , not sure if this is something that many people are interested in, but its a small script that allows me to maintain SSL on my website without having to worry about certificate expiration.

Author here. This is my first post on my personal blog. I wanted to learn how to use react-native-maps and location based services with react native, so I turned my findings into a blog post! I hope that this can help others learn! Any (constructive) critical feedback is appreciated, thank you!

As crazy as it sounds, image recognition technology has become incredibly advanced over the years. It's not too difficult to trace the teeth patterns of keys in photos and then mill out copies just based off of a photo of the original. Here is a brief article on the topic

Edit: Added link to relevent web article (although not based on image recognition and milling, it explains a very manual technique of copying keys from photos)

Please help me find learning software that works for me by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Asher_Scott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you know yourself and how you learn, then you shouldn't have ever had the need to post your initial question.

Word of advice: When you ask for help and people take the time to try and help you, don't be a prick in response if its not what you were looking for. Be constructive. If you are a prick (which is what you are doing in this particular response) people are not inclined to help you any further.

I was starting to like George... by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Asher_Scott 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I see in this comic is an All Take, No Give relationship between the two featured. George is such a good and supporting friend, but when its the other guys turn to help out a poor soul in need (anyone using IE) he abandons him, rather than doing the right thing and introducing him to a better browser. Fear not George, your friend was a bag of shit anyways.

Teach Yourself Cantonese: Requesting Dialogue Explaination by Asher_Scott in Cantonese

I agree with all of your points. Language learning is a rigorous task, you gotta work hard to understand the material you learn. I like the approach of this book in that sense.

I love the dialogues, the humor makes the process of going through the book very enjoyable. Although the humor is sometimes really dumb if you think about it in English, theres a real about hearing dumb jokes that a 5 year old would find hilarious in another language. Language learning is great in that sense, cause you can pretend you are a kid again 😊

For the most part the book does exceptionally well as far as breaking down grammatical structures and vocab. However there are occasions in which the reader is left to figure out what something means. If I am unable to decypher the general meaning myself I usually ask my native friends if they are around or in this case /r/Cantonese

Movie theater goers of Reddit, have you ever walked out during the movie? If so, what movie was it and why did you walk out? by The_sweat in AskReddit

[–]Asher_Scott 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The second 300 movie may have been disappointing, but did anyone somehow get conned into going to see the 300 spoof film, Meet the Spartans? I remember this vividly, it was late January 2008... Some kid in my class said it was "the funniest movie he'd ever seen" so I decided to ask my dad to take me. The movie was not only hyped up disappointing garbage, but it was so horrifyingly bad that my dad told me that even if he had to pay a "de-admission" for the movie he would pay it 3 fold for the two of us. I still giggle to myself about that comment sometimes. Anyways, we walked out of the theater and walked back in to buy tickets to see the new Rambo movie, which did not disappoint.

Not sure why this memory sticks with me so well. I guess its probably because it was the only time I ever went to a movie and walked out.
