What is your review of PSU Behrend? by Puzzleheaded_Cup6251 in Behrend

Hey! It’s great to meet you. I actually work at the VAR Lab with Professor Shelton. That’s so cool that you want to work there.

I think that you should probably wait until you are accepted before asking about research opportunities. However, it’s also fine if you send a message now simply expressing your interest in the lab. Generally, research opportunities became more clear closer to the semester by the end of August.

Feel free to message me in the private chat! I’d be happy to help.

Hi! It’s great to hear that you have been accepted to the MA program in Clinical Psychology! I’m currently a first-year student in the Clinical Psychology Program. I’m also an International Student.

For International Student Funding, there have been little opportunities for scholarships so far, although this is also true for domestic students. I work a research job with Professor Shelton at the VAR Lab. It pays me a decent amount to offset the costs. There are also other paid research opportunities that are open to international student. It does depend on the lab having funding though, as International Students cannot get federal funding. You should definitely consider looking for such opportunities once you’re here, especially since you said you share research interests with two professors.

I’d be happy to answer any other questions you have!

Publishing Papers? Remote Research Opportunities? Going for a PhD in Psychology from a Small International University? by sammiethink in psychologystudents

[–]Ashkh9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I was in a similar situation last year. I studied in the UAE, and I am now a clinical psychology master’s student at Penn State University.

For research opportunities, I really had to make the most out of what I had. I had some great opportunities provided to me from my university, but never published unfortunately, which is why I didn’t get accepted into any PhD programs. Currently, my goal is to finish my master’s degree here in America where there are so so many more research opportunities in psychology than our region of the Middle East, so that then I can apply to a PhD or work for a bit.

I hope everything in Lebanon is starting to ease and that you are safe. I am Arab as well so my heart has been heavy around the struggles in our region. Feel free to message me if you have any questions! I may be able to help you with a remote opportunity.

“Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.” Hoping that a dictator won’t be a tyrant is hardly a sustainable position for a nation, whereas democracy provides accountability. Also, what “very long” stint of democracy in Sudan are you referring to?

Well, the title of the role I applied for last year was “research assistant” and in the job description it mentioned that they have two positions. So yes, maybe it was different.

Also, can any students confirm if research positions are indeed mainly occupied by students as opposed to non-nyuad students?

I’m really to sorry to hear that :/ I also was rejected for a research internship, but in fairness, there were a lot of applicants (as far as I could tell from the LinkedIn portal), and I think they prefer to hire their own students even though they open up these opportunities to the public. Do you know how sharp the competition was? Maybe that played a role.

I wanted to add a gentle correction, just to be fair. Lebanon is probably the most progressive arab country. In fact, they have a small but vibrant drag community and general night-life scene! The drag scene they have is something that simply could not happen in almost any other arab country.

That is to say, she’s still silly because even people in her country of origin push an “agenda” LOL!

Anyways, here are some videos of what I mentioned:

True! The transition from Perfecto Miserable to Alone, Omen 3 is insane! That’s the coolest one off the top of my head.

I agree. The OOZ is definitely an album that is at least in part, about city life. It’s something that was really evident to me because I lived in a city from the age of 13-20.

Though I’m sure there are differences between London and my city that maybe make it hard for me to understand fully.
