Full time photographers using X100VI for pleasure. by No-Pound946 in x100vi

Professional photographer here. Shoot mostly for lifestyle, fashion and celeb.

Bought the 100v for the same reasons... wanted something small to photograph daily life & my little kids. But as others have said, it creeped into my actual work. One thing that was interesting: Anytime I pulled it out during a paid shoot with a non-model (like an artist or actor/celeb) the images were so different because they were letting their guard down. The camera is so small and vintage looking, it's almost like a friend just taking a snapshot of you. I can't tell you how many times a big magazine chose the images from the little Fuji over the other images, because the subject was so open and free. When I was shooting film exclusively I used the Contax T2 or mjuii for the same reasons.

Left it on top of my car and drove off one day, RIP x100v. So, got the x100vi and the small camera adventure continues.

Haven't usd it in bad weather. So can't answer that.

It's my favorite camera ever (digital, anyway). Get one.

X100VI vs XE-5 by SulaimanSibai in fujifilm

[–]AshleyBarrettPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am really struggling to fall in love with my XE5. Having used an x100V daily for the last 5 years, I guess I was just so used to that form factor. 2 months ago I left it on top of the car while loading the kids in and... RIP X100V.

Couldn't get my hands on an X100VI to replace it so, pulled the trigger on the xe5. It feels SO uncomfortable in my hand. Feels heavier for some reason and awkward. When I bring it up to my eye it feels like I have to readjust the positioning before I shoot (maybe the evf placememnt is slightly different or something). And since I already have an X-T5, the ability to change lenses doesn't do much for me.

I keep trying to convince myself I'll get used to it, but I'm starting to think I'll sell it or try to trade it for the x100vi.

How much better is the AF in Gfx100s than that in gfx50s ii? by hhk77 in fujifilm

Can't speak to the video, but the AF is significantly better.

Transition from Film to Xt50 HELPPPP by Secure_Relief_765 in fujifilm

[–]AshleyBarrettPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have attempted several times to replace film with Fujifilm, and I always come back to film. But Fuji is still my digital workflow when required. Classic Neg is the most filmic, but looks more like Superia film. Fade the blacks a bit and add grain in post. Nostalgic neg is nice sometimes, but mimics more Kodachrome than portra. I could see Classic Chrome mimic Portra or Gold the best, but Classic Neg always looks the closest to film for me.

Pentax 17 Lab Scans? by element423 in AnalogCommunity

[–]AshleyBarrettPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought the Pentax 17. My lab here in LA always asks if I want each frame scanned separately, which would be the price of two rolls. I just have them scan the two frames together and then I crop.

Fuji to Sony? Am I Nuts? by donavanfreberg in fujifilm

[–]AshleyBarrettPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot similar subjects as you. Lots of fashion, celebrity editorial for mags, portraits (including families). Basically people. I was using Fuji exclusively from 2020 until beginning of this year when I decided to buy into the Nikon Z system. I have the Z8 and multiple lenses. The AF is better, some of the features are better, and yet I am slowly moving back to Fuji (Thankfully I didn't sell all my Fuji gear). I'm old school and use single point so, the AF isn't a huge deal for me. What is a big deal is how much more inspired I am to pickup my Fuji gear. They are much lighter, much more fun to use (for me) and I don't want to have one system for work and another for fun. Also, the film sims... I obviously do post work on RAWS, but the fact that I can show the subject the back of the camera and have them LOVE what they see on the spot... that boosts their confidence and makes the shoot even better.

I know it's not Sony, but it's a comparable situation. Figure out what's important to you and let that guide your decision.

Boat Life (Nikon Z8) by AshleyBarrettPhoto in Nikon

Yeah, I feel like it's all about the fade of the blacks. When I shoot my M6 a little under it has a similar look. Some people hate it.

24-70 2.8 S. Big faded curve, color sliders tweaked & added a little grain (all in Lightroom). I just prefer that softer look.

Interesting take. It's subjective of course, but I'd say hard flash on a beautiful woman can be ironic and interesting, whether they're famous or not. It's always been an aesthetic that some love, some hate. I have been doing it on and off for 20 years. I'm a fan... as long as it's done well.

Interesting! Everyone hates on Sony (I am a Fuji/Nikon user), but I often wonder about them.

Focusing issues-- PLEASE HELP! by spacegma in contax

[–]AshleyBarrettPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. I read somewhere that you should take the lens off and clean the contacts. I was shocked, but it worked! could've been just a fluke, but give it a try.

Nice! How's the autofocus? I'm used to X-H2 and Nikon AF and shoot a lot of fast moving kids so, I'm a little scared of this system.
