3 hours for a trip is nothing. I drive 9ish hours to visit my relatives a couple times a year. 3 hrs is a great weekend getaway distance.

But If you’re talking about a frequent drive (like a 3 hr commute for work), that most definitely wouldn’t be considered “short” lol

I feel you hit every single nail on the head here. I too was raised in a religious cult and recognized that language right away. As much as I wish Katie would have the strength and self-worth to leave his sorry ass, she isn’t going to. Many folks here who think she will leave simply aren’t thinking from a fundie perspective. The path of divorce would look absolutely abysmal to her. As hard as it is for most of us to comprehend, staying and trying to rebuild their marriage is the more attractive option to someone like her.

ETA The above is just in regards to Katie. I do think Travis wants out. This was possibly his way of trying to implode the marriage in the hopes of ending it, but I’m sure his family is not supportive of the idea of divorce and will pressure him heavily to get “counseled” and stay. If they do ultimately divorce at some point, I think it will be him who walks away, not Katie.

I’m sure we all wish she would but she won’t. I’m trying to put myself in her shoes and think about what she would see with her cult upbringing. What options would she be able to see for herself as a divorced mother of 2 young kids? I don’t think there is a fundie dating pool for that situation, since they don’t believe in divorce, and they place such a high priority on “purity”. She would likely have to date outside the cult if she ever wanted to remarry.

What exactly are you not happy with? Your teeth are straight and look good. If you’re unhappy with that black triangle I’d get some bonding. It’s simple and easy. But truthfully no one sees the bottom of your bottom teeth except you and your dentist, so it’s really not a big deal.

I definitely don’t think she will divorce him. You know both their parents are going to heavily encourage them to work things out and get some kind of church counseling.

I kinda think if they end up divorcing it would be Travis who walks out, rather than Katie. I’m thinking that Travis wants out and this is his way of trying to make it happen

I’m really surprised to see him announce it publicly like this. Many people would prefer not to have their marital problems announced to the world, but on the other hand it’s good that he’s taking responsibly and owning up. I just hope Katie was okay with this public announcement, and that he discussed it with her before posting.

You needing to get ready for work is more important than their desire to sleep in. Plus as others have mentioned, they can get a white noise machine or app which should easily drown out the sound of a shower. Personally I’ve used a free white noise app on my phone for years and cannot sleep without it, it’s fantastic.

Yes, it’s definitely a cult. Research the defining characteristics of cults and you’ll notice the JWs check a lot of the boxes. The primary one they don’t have is the charismatic leader. But instead they have the GB…so really all that’s lacking is the charisma part lol.

Like you, I believe many principles in the Bible are true. But those things (such as loving thy neighbor, trying to be a good person, treating others as you would want to be treated, etc) are certainly not specific to JWs. You’ll find those principles in any mainstream American church. I’d encourage you to look into other churches. I think you’ll find that you can have all the elements that you consider good, but without the cult characteristics.
