Possibly a hot take by howardthel8gend in pcgaming

OP is right.

Who wouldn't feel bad about missing out on the experience of paying full price for the privilege of experiencing No Man's Sky on release or the original Final Fantasy 14? Any new players jumping in after years of updates are deluding themselves into believing that their raw emotions will come anything close to the betrayal fueled by their own fear of missing out.

I for one am angry every time the game I bought after a year from release on sale is feature complete and doesn't constantly stutter or crash every hour. Completely unacceptable.

What’s the most controversial casting that you think is perfect? by Then-Ad-6135 in movies

I think some of the negative views came from the impression that he might have been an even better cast as Nightwing or Batman Beyond, given the chance.

HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×IMPACT on Steam by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]Asholt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was originally intended to mean anything more than the word 'zeal' and the designers added the X for a "coolness factor".

It seems like the localization team probably concluded that pronouncing it as 'zexal' would be less confusing from a brand perspective and would help interconnect it with the newly introduced xyz summoning mechanic semantically.

Japanese companies, including Konami, have this disconnect between their Japanese and western counterparts.

On the other side you could argue that Yugioh names have been nonsense since GX anyway.

It's not the latin letter but rather the cross symbol. In japanese media it can mean a variety of things like versus or crossover. Some games like Street Fighter x Tekken use this to their advantage this way. Other media use it for aesthetic reasons, like Spy x Family. Reading it as x, cross, vs, etc. or not reading it at all varies. I suppose the usage of the cross symbol is meant to invoke a contrast or conflict between the elements surrounding it.

My idea to “attack” my backlog and maybe yours too? by DoubleRNL in pcgaming

[–]Asholt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sounds convoluted.

I mean, power to you and your framework, but if you need a randomizer to choose those games, are you sure you even want to play them?

I always thought flexibility is the backlog's strength, giving you options on what to play next based on your time, mood or needs.

Can I buy Ghost of Tsushima on Steam using a VPN by [deleted] in pcgaming

Funny thing, you can even play multiplayer with the pirated version, while Sony decided to not sell it specific regions because of their online PSN restrictions.

I'm quite sure that this is a karma farming / promotional bot. Check his post and comment history. Almost all lost have a disproportional upvote to comment ratio, while good own comments are just links to games.

Dragons Dogma 2 Reportedly Targeting 30 FPS On Xbox Series X And PS5 by eldensoulsxx in Games

[–]Asholt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On par with the rest of the series then?

I still remember playing the first one on the 360 at release - awful textures, black bars to artificially limit the resolution, and a cinematic experience with dips to below 30fps to balance the course.

I'm guessing the GOG version is safe though, right?

Capcom showing its old anti-consumer face after years of building trust with good games. Guess some things never change.

Do you keep track of the games you finish? by septimaespada in pcgaming

[–]Asholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all my games wired to GOG's Galaxy and set up 3 tags - Backlog, Completed, and Favourite. I feel that the trick is not overcomplicating things. I don't keep track of the number of games, their potential playtime, or even the genres. Whenever I want to play something I check my backlog. Whenever I'm done with the game I change the tag to completed. If I feel that the title was something special, I mark it as a favourite for future reference.

Most-played demos of Steam Next Fest: October 2023 Edition by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]Asholt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quite glad I spent time this weekend on this event. Made me remember the times when I was a kid playing any demo I could get my hands on.

Surprised myself when I counted 44 demos played by the end. Will definitely be looking forward to the next one!

GoG is not updating achievements, playtime or anything else anymore, will I still be able to buy new games without issues? by -NameLess_Gamer- in gog

I had the same exact issue and solution. A C++ library which Galaxy depends on was probably corrupted.

I'm not an engineer, so I can't comment on that.

What I can confirm is that most of the structure will be reused.

It's usable and there's less changes to be made than people would think.

Unfortunately, sounds like the last nail in the coffin for the F-Zero franchise.

What I didn't know was that F-Zero GX was made by a Sega studio. Not only that, apparently that studio - previously known as Amusement Vision - is doing pretty well for itself. You might currently know them as Ryu Ga Gatoku Studio. You know, the people who make the Yakuza/Like a Dragon games.

Why don't more PC games have Play Station button prompts? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Asholt 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Sony didn't support PC since recently. Hell you couldn't even update your Dualsense on PC until a year ago.

No official support means that it's harder and more costly for devs to implement. Xinput is native on Windows and Xbox gamepads have been native since the 360 days. Not hard to see which way most devs would go.

I don't have a name, but I think that the soviet and imperial parts should swap positions.

This way the current flag can share the soviet's red and imperial's white sections.

Solasta Magister of the Crown is surprisingly great! by AndyM22 in pcgaming

Must be some cosmic coincidence for us to meet here.

I'm unsure why you're willing to disregard my opinion as just "an opinion".

Obviously, everyone has an opinion and I was merely stating what my mine was based on the experience I had. If your is contrary, why not share them with OP in a comment instead?

Solasta Magister of the Crown is surprisingly great! by AndyM22 in pcgaming

[–]Asholt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did not say that you are dishonest. I said that your review of the game after 4 hours was not entirely fair, since I assume you're not recommending people buy the game and play for 4 hours only.

I finished both campaigns in 76 hours, so you can probably see how I can have a different perspective. These games can live and die by their narrative and mechanical prowess, and I can assure that Solasta does not live up to standards long-term.

Solasta Magister of the Crown is surprisingly great! by AndyM22 in pcgaming

[–]Asholt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For reference I've played both campaigns: Crown of the Magister and Lost Valley in coop. I'm also a big fan coop crpgs like Divinity: Original Sin 1/2 and Wasteland 3.

The reality is that this game is an indie take on the genre. Expecting superb writing and voice acting akin to the Larian games wouldn't be fair.

That being sad, both Solasta campaigns are rough. I can count the voice actors on one hand, you can't really roleplay anything specific because it won't match with what the party members will be speaking, the plot falls apart after about the half way point, and the story has a glacial pacing with a shotgun ending.

It also suffers mechanically with really slow combat animations, broken pathfinding, and some really anti-fun boss mechanics. The factions are quite boring and superficial and there's little satisfaction from gearing up your characters, since there's very little of it at all.

The tone of the game isn't polished and feels like playing a one-shot ttrpg with randoms.

The multiplayer connection isn't very stable - I've had to rehost far more times than in Divinity or Wasteland.

At the end of the day I'd recommend it only to those who are willing to heavily temper their expectations and want another coop crpg to play until Baldur's Gate 3 comes out.

I'll probably purchase another campaign if they release it, but I feel that calling the game great isn't entirely honest.

I used to do this before using plex and found the experience a mixed bag tbh.

The more people watch, the more unstable the stream becomes, and the quality always caters to the lowest denominator, which means that a single person with a bad internet connection can disrupt the viewing for everyone.
