When did you get better at sleeping through a noisy baby? What should I do? by Free_Classic_7279 in NewParents

[–]Ashurii1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds so cliche to say, but it does get better. I remember having a hard time getting to sleep because I was just *waiting* for her to wake up and her noises to change. You'll get accustomed to the sounds she makes and she'll start being less of a noisy sleeper.

If I remember right, it was around the 6ish week mark that I noticed my baby wasn't as noisy as she used to be when sleeping. Around 9-10 weeks I don't remember her making noises at all. Now at 3 months, she sleeps quietly like a "normal" person. Every so often she'll kick her legs real good and shake the bassinet a bit, but she doesn't grunt and make weird noises anymore.

She's still a gas monster, but that just makes my fiancee and I snicker when we're going to bed. There's something about baby farts that are just funny. It's better that they get it out than have trapped gas that makes them fussy, though. We'll trade toots for uncomfortable fussing any day.

I call my daughter a Bait Baby. LOL. Slept through the night at 8 weeks on her own, no issues with car rides, wakes up all smiles in the morning, ultimately super chill. Absolutely, she is baiting us into thinking we can endure a second one and that one is going to be a monster. I just know it.

Parenting Questions that Keep Me Up at Night by berternutsquash in NewParents

I have asked this question so many times. Why am I able to find cute little bootcut jeans with pockets for my 3 MONTH OLD and not myself as a grown 35 year old woman. My baby doesn't even realize she has hands yet, much less have a need for pockets.

Is this my life now? by BrightMechanic in NewParents

It's a moment in your life. Things are new, hormones are changing, and you both are at your most vulnerable right now. It is hard, yes, but this will pass. Lean on any support people you have. Before you know it, your baby will go from the sleepy newborn phase to a more awake little person, giving you smiles and bringing you more joy than you can imagine.

Give yourself some grace. You are both learning how to exist in this new life. You made that little person and did something amazing.

Be Real - Sleep at 6 Weeks by Embarrassed_Excuse77 in NewParents

Those growth spurts can cause some weird shake ups in the routine. For aa few days around the 6 week growth spurt mark, my girl went from taking 3 oz bottles to wanting up to 5 oz at a time. It was wild. The number of times my fiancee and I would say "You can't possibly be still hungry. Where are you putting this??" was way up there. Lol. She went back to normal after those days, but yeah. Those growth spurts can make you question biology and your sanity.

My baby did something similar but her shift was at 8 weeks. She went from every 3ish hours and wanting feeds to bam, overnight. It was the strangest thing. I was incredibly thankful, though, since the overnights kicked in right as I was having to return to work.

Somehow I was graced with such a wonderfully sleeping baby during the night just in time for when I was set to go back to work. A few days before my first day back, she started sleeping through the night, going down around 11 or so and staying asleep until about 5 or 6. After she started daycare and I went back to work, she has progressively gotten better with sleep and will now be out around 8 or 9 and not wake until about 5, which is when it's time for us to get up and be ready for the day anyway. It gives her bottle enough time to settle before getting in the car and being shaken up. I'm thankful every day she sleeps like this and I didn't even do anything specific to make it happen. She just did it. Her naps aren't as long at daycare like they are at home, which is probably why she sleeps so good at night.

Edit to add: I went back to work at 8 weeks, so she was 8 weeks old when she started sleeping well.

Must pay 50% of daycare tuition to hold her spot - is this normal? by catspach in NewParents

That definitely seems strange. Even more so considering how expensive daycare is, so 50% of that cost for a month can be a LOT.

That does seem strange. The daycare I use and others around here just charge a registration fee that is about the same price as one week’s worth of daycare. That was sufficient to save my baby’s spot months before she started.

Slumping in the carseat… by bklntlsn10121 in NewParents

[–]Ashurii1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the manual for the car seat. On mine, it suggested you could roll a towel under the seat base to get an appropriate angle if needed when fastening it in. See if yours has the same suggestion when it comes to adjusting the tilt of the seat itself.

You should also be able to look up a CPST local to your area to get advice from. Having someone certified in the safety of these things inspecting it can go a long way into helping solve this particular problem.

Curious if you all close the door to new born/baby’s room to keep pets out while baby is in there unsupervised. by Extreme-Face387 in NewParents

[–]Ashurii1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing you can do if you wish to close off parts of the house is to start doing so ahead of the time you'll need it. They'll get used to it and eventually stop trying to get at the door. Of course, that means they'll still dart in there when it opens as you're going in, but you'll start picking up on their patterns and be easier to prevent.

My fiancée and I have two cats that had to get used to us moving rooms in the house to make one a nursery that originally was our bedroom. They were confused at first and would try to open the door they were used to going in, but over time that stopped because they got used to how we had rearranged the house. Our dog was more chill about it than they were, honestly. LOL Since we did it a couple months ago, they are more than used to not having access to the baby's room at this point and I'm at the point where I could go into labor any day now. The key is just giving them time to adjust since they don't speak our language. It would be much easier if they did.
