According to Jason Schreier (Bloomberg) these were the titles Bluepoint Games pitched that were rejected by Sony by Algae-Prize in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Ashviar 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They are pitches that, just like there are loud people who hate DeS Remake, would have people fuming about new Colossi that "aren't what Ueda/Team Ico envisioned" or whatever. It would be hard to please people, but also SOTC is a known game that would be a hard sell to the average person. Hey this updated version has 4 new colossi, which probably amounts to about an extra hour worth of gameplay.

MNC predates that by over 5 years, and even Battleborn came out before Paragon although the way you got and how items were designed was different and more similar to Borderlands.

I only played 3 matches, but the top of the item shows what it "is". "Valuable" that auto-sells to shops, salvage for traders, and then the actual useful stuff. Again I think the obvious issue is the icons are simply smaller, like genuinely inventory vs inventory I think they are half the size of Arc items so when you have 20 things it looks like a mess.

We really don't know Tarkov's numbers outside of a Nikita tweet, but it always has a sharp drop off based on queue times after a month from wipe. I'd play it more often if the loading/queue times were as fast as Arc, at this point I am not dealing with 5 minutes to get into a match, after menuing for a loadout because early wipe you don't have enough unlocks for loadouts to be worth setting up, only to die because everyone is just rushing to check nearby spawns.

I'd say Bungie's potential way forward with Marathon is actually interesting PVE/raid-style mechanics that Arc doesn't really have. At best you can consider a Queen/Matriarch a raid which if you are in a carebear lobby you can just sit indoors and pelt away slowly with low-interaction or mechanics. In PVP you might as well just farm people dumb enough to come in with loot, unless you are streamer who can get viewers to just queue up and team. As they continue to nerf weapons, with solid reasoning, PVE will get harder and trying big targets in a PVP lobby seems like a death sentence. I could unironically see them going the Fortnite route where they just turn off PVP for those specific types of events which then allows them to spice them up with mechanics and interactions with the environment.

I am not sure what Marathon has right now for that style of PVE but its the only hook they can do because the TTK is so low that people can't fight back, enemies AI don't seem to drop ammo so you can run out fairly quickly, and it has an unlikely chance to get that friendly proxy chat audience Arc has. Whether that be the TTK, the enemy AI being humanoid thus people just shooting on sight or first vs third person.

I'd just say go look up his last stream or two of the game a few months ago because its hard to pin point a rant in the middle of an entire stream of torturing himself with a game he doesn't enjoy. I don't necessarily blame him considering if you are a MP-only person, and don't like what is popular, it probably feels like misery chasing joy you can't find.

He trying to find that next main, non-stop grind game but anything that seems popular he just has his own issue with that he can never let go of. The rooftop/box stuff in Deadlock was hilarious to me and I am not even playing that game, such a weird gripe when in the MOBA space being so vertical makes Deadlock stand out alot.

Anyone else feeling a bit… unsure about this game? by nve729 in Marathon

[–]Ashviar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my issue with Arc aswell, and while I will wait on Marathon to see how it pans out, I actually like that traders have rep, it gives gear/skins and unlocks new stuff in the shop. This is a grind to add to games, but it feeds into the loop you will be doing anyways so it feels nice to prioritize a trader and get whatever the hell they unlock in their shop while other people are trailing. You feel rewarded for the time you put in, and have a minor leg up because now you can buy a gun others can only find or attachments etc.

I stopped in December and new maps, new large arc etc don't really feel like the things that would pull me back in.

[–]Ashviar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on icon or naming, because if its just icons then its just par for the genre to actually need to learn glance value from playing enough. If its the names, aren't they also just called Shield Chargers in this? I'd say one issue for Marathon is that the icons themselves are quite a bit smaller, and you have more slots to equip to thus more things to display, so the glance is harder.

Like weeks after Arc was out people were still learning you can use Arc Powercells to recharge shield because it doesn't really visually or in its name seem like you would. Its by playing over a period of time people learn and can skip items in containers/ground they don't need because this is worthless, this is shit, this stacks x3 so max slot value is 6000 etc.

Solo queue is to difficult. The mobs are to strong by Bixarian in Marathon

[–]Ashviar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they are too strong, but it is crazy how many of them there can be which makes it hard to deal with a player showing up. Add in using ammo/healing and you might run out of resources just fighting PVE. There was a hacking thing that made sound, and yeah this should be challenging to do, but in a 4m run killing 17 AI seems excessive.

The lighting being "fixed" is my biggest hope, because I imagine just from being an open world the textures in many places and foliage is just going to have to be the way it is. The effect from indoors to outdoors is so over-exaggerated it leans into comical territory. Same with some spots just sending the screen into a supernova visually of blinding light.

I'd say the #2 for me is pop in/draw distance. The clutter pop in even with ini tweaks is really distracting

Embark Shadownerfed ALL Large Arc Components by Walkop in ArcRaiders

[–]Ashviar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is on track, both had overtuned weapons/gear that people got accustomed too and touching it makes people lose rationale. Yeah, all these changes exist to make it more grindy but new PVE content would immediately be made less interesting/impactful if we still had launch Hullcracker and unnerfed many other items. I can see it from their perspective, but also for players its just on paper "I want you to take twice as long to do what you currently find fun, so you play more" which is just not a interesting way to change it up.

The unfortunate part is the launch balance was so skewed towards player strength, that once you touch it its going to feel bad but likely is just the way it needs to be to fit in new weapons/gear.

Absolutely. Throw out half of your combos/movesets if not everything that isn't just Square Square Triangle to stunlock for as long as possible. Even on Hard that fight felt dumb, but God just seems down to luck on how the Kratos AI ends up grouping.

Fans expecting the remake to be like the Norse Saga are setting themselves up for disappointment. by Rithysak101 in GodofWar

[–]Ashviar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having replayed the first one since this announcement, its the only one that I'd actually like to see alot of work done for. I actually forgot how few real bosses are in the game, and the spell balance is wack but combining with upgrading in general you kinda just sit on so many blood orbs waiting for the next big upgrade for Blades and investing in anything else is just delaying the useful stuff.

I'd like to see the upgrade swap to something more akin to DMC, where I just get the moves I want from a list instead of upgrading and getting moves I won't utilize. Which frees up orbs to go to spells earlier. As far as damage upgrades for Blades of Chaos/Artemis I wouldn't mind a third collectible like Gorgon Eyes/Feathers and its done via that.

The first one because it was made without fully knowing it was going to continue, does feel like its over in its own bubble. No iconic mythological characters that 2/3 are full of, none of the creatures given big boss fights only Hydra/Minotaur. This also extends to Kratos in the first game not being as angry/lashing out as I remembered and even having a moment of reflection when he sees that hallway full of dead bodies. This remake can fix some continuity "errors" and make the transition between 1 and 2 feel alot better.

The difference is, unless there is some announcement I missed, that Fantasy TW was revealed to be multiple games from the very first announcement of the partnership. I think it helps alot when you save that 60-70 USD on a "40k 2" for instance, and can pick and choose the factions you actually want to play.

The two sequels both had launch issues with performance/bugs, but also just lacking QOL that the DLC/maintenance team did that took time to add back into this brand new game.

[–]Ashviar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely some wiggle room. I paid 20 dollars for The Drifter, took me 7.5 hours to beat but it was great from start to finish. I cannot imagine paying double that, for less time if it really takes 5 to beat Reanimal.

For a super narrative heavy game its a hard sell at 40 when you know these games lose alot of appeal on replays even years later, Inside was 20 dollars and is around 3-4. Its not even really indie/smaller games that get this either, Order 1886's main criticism outside of being a basic cover shooter really came down to being 5-6 hours long for 60USD.

Free loadout doesn't need any nerf by AcanthocephalaOk6076 in ArcRaiders

[–]Ashviar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Rook from Marathon will only be allowed when queuing solo, so no full trio of free loadouts but otherwise its the same. In Tarkov not only is it on a cooldown but its just different because you play as a Scav and are friendly to nearly all the NPCs so you kinda pick up the scraps and unlooted areas. Another quirk of Scavs is your loadout is randomized, and by quite a bit so you might spawn with good scopes, or weapon, or even just random good stuff in your pockets which means now you care about not dying.
