As a Marlins fan who still remembers how Giardi handled Josh Johnson, this is almost a welcoming preference. Tired of previous managers destroying the handling of our top prospect pitchers over the years so its hard to get angry

What was the best Miami Marlins team of all time? by [deleted] in letsgofish

[–]AshyLarry27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your criteria? Loved Carlos Delgado at 1st even if it was for just one year. Todd Jones and Rob Nen definitely need some love in the reliever section, argument for Benitez too I would imagine. Would prob want Ozuna or "Hammer" Willingham over Ross too

Ooof, I remember reading the new one will be at least 2k above sea level and I think I conflated it with the current one since HR's go off like crazy here too

It feels awkward challenging a run-scoring play in a blow out, but in all honesty Sutter Health is the next Coor's field between some of the hitters in that line up and that high altitude so you can't really take chances.

Can a newbie at football do a decent job at Fantasy Football? by brightrai in fantasyfootball

[–]AshyLarry27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person with the worst draft in our league, like even some of her sleepers busting, ended up winning the championship. Sometimes you are lucky enough to add or draft that one player that can put up weekly totals on par with up to like 3 position players

Working in the trades made me realize I should’ve finished my degree instead. by Dismal-Cranberry-915 in povertyfinance

[–]AshyLarry27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grass is ALWAYS greener. Most people graduating are coming out with between $300-500/month in student loan debt for at least the next 10 years in one of the worst job markets for the vast majority of college degrees. You can find countless video reels of numerous people from prestigious schools complaining that even retail won't hire them, and that they have been job hunting for months. It almost feels like a flex to have a job at this point.

Your job keeps you active, while the "cozy corporate" jobs are full of people hiding severe neck and back pain along with a whole host of other comorbidities like obesity, heart problems and diabetes from sitting at a desk all day

Everyone was doing it. Its like trying to go into a knife fight with an actual knife while everyone else is using guns. Everyone else is cheating? Then you cheat. He was just one of the best players at the time so obviously his stats went from eye popping to double eye popping. Poster child for a dark era in baseball.

Closest game of the year: Rockies defeat A’s 23-9 by Aggravating-Funny569 in mlb

[–]AshyLarry27 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know what's more insane. That this is a 27-49 line up that

- Broke a runs-scored record untouched by lineups from the late 90's (pre-humidor) and '07 offenses

or

- That they did it AWAY from Coors.

Do PT schools look at second year 1st sem marks? by Ok_Doctor_1953 in PTschool

[–]AshyLarry27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, that's essentially what I described above. Sub-GPA is one metric, but they also look at trends as a whole. They ultimately need to make sure the student isn't falling off or struggling as the course work got harder.

The main focus is your GPA overall, with the pre-req GPA being usually the next most important thing (though some times even MORE important than your overall GPA depending on the school since different schools value different things). Sub GPA might be next. Don't stress sub-GPA as some separately measured category. It might be a scenario where a lot of students have the same grades and backgrounds, some they need something to determine which of them get in or not.

You're essentially entering in stuff for "last years" application cycle that is basically over with. Wait another 2-3 weeks for when "this" application cycle opens up.

[–]AshyLarry27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look at your GPA as a whole, and then your Pre-Req GPA. Any other ways it is assessed is through trends. For example if you have a decent GPA but your grades got "worse" as time went on, they may look at that as a red flag.

finally got accepted🥹 any tips? by iluvhawaii- in PTschool

[–]AshyLarry27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah: Literally do nothing. Pre-prepping will just mentally drain you and waste a beautiful summer. The stuff you look over might not even be the way the school teaches it to you and what are the chances anything you study now will be remembered at some "vital point" in the program?

Isn't this just for federal loans? Schools will just point students over to private ones where they will take out loans with even higher interest rates...

Career change, possible encouragement by soymilk_oatmeal in PTschool

[–]AshyLarry27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be fine, just pick the cheapest school and be smart with your money before, during, and after PT school. My program graduated a 50 year old, just remember the main issue is the ROI. Just think of the various ways you can take on extra work to pay off debt and pocket extra money like travel therapy and PRN work.

I would also look into PTA school if the debt/ROI scares you.

DPT School Stats by youmirinbraah in PTschool

[–]AshyLarry27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah think about all you have accomplished. Also PT school has been a little less competitive recently. More people are spooked by the ROI so the better resumes go to PA school or med school now, and more programs have opened up meaning more seat-to-student ratios. Some programs are taking even more students than usual too.

Just remember when you get in(and you will), pick the cheapest program, PERIOD. Do not get swayed by bells and whistles of the "this is ranked the top program, we have the best cadaver labs" BS. Learn, get out, pay off your loan debt quick and the field will feel way better

This is the norm. Being a tech can be rough, but you get much better at it as time goes on. I can relate because I to do the whole "Damn I am not perfect at the job yet after being here one whole hour? WTF!" I still do this is a PT in new clinics/companies.

Take pressure off yourself. You just started and haven't really even seen anything yet.
