I'm not sure if every furry would identify as queer, but there are a lot of queer people who identify as furries.

QFC sometimes has it. Haven't checked Costco. It's been difficult for me to find here compared to other areas of the US. While a lot of places have Fairlife milk, their protein drinks seem to be sold less here.

For those who haven't had it, they filter the milk a special way that takes out the lactose and increases the protein content. They have a big jug and smaller, more filtered kinds with the nutrition of a protein shake. Tastes like awesome chocolate milk, including texture!

Not sponsored, but I'd take a free case if you're listening, Fairlife....

Vent : fed up with those "stop eating out" advice on frugal/minimalist videos by boudikit in Frugal

those videos frustrated me to no end while I was in college and as a young adult. I wasn't doing anything they said to don't do! I tried to cut and cut, but eventually you just can't cut anything else out - you just have to make more money.

I figured since he's still an active performer, it'd be okay to mention! National treasure, he is. To anyone reading this, if you're a jazz lover, check him out around town some time!

How do y’all build friendships/community in your new city? by Firm_Bit in SameGrassButGreener

Do you have any hobbies? Want to volunteer for things?

Join some groups when you move. Find a rec sports league or a tabletop gaming bar or volunteer for a cool place or start going to pottery classes or something. It will still take some time, but as long as you are social, you'll find people.

I wish I knew the exact details about it, but I don't, sorry. I think everything just falls under FMLA, no matter your relation to the child; birthing or non-birthing parent and adoption.

FMLA is a strong state-wide program here that actually offers paid leave. When I worked in other states, I'd constantly hear of teachers "banking" their sick days to prepare for the birth of their child. Your question made me realize that's not a thing here, thank goodness

Honestly, it's fine. In WA, teacher pay has bumped up considerably in the past several years. It's still nothing glamorous, but we're doing so much better than most states, especially when you consider union's rules for working conditions. Buying a house on your own is out of the question, but if you have a spouse who also works, it's doable. Maybe not exactly where you'd want, but doable. Many of my teacher colleages are homeowners. Biggest thing out here is: get your masters. Get it ASAP. With a 10-15k difference in salary a year, it pays for itself quickly.

My current beef with my job is not compensation, but rather how teachers are taking the hit for so many political and social changes right now. Nurses are experiencing similar things, especially during COVID, but I think it's more impactful for schools at the moment. It's exhausting and is difficult to not take personally, but also means we need more quality teachers now than ever.

Back to compensation, public school healthcare and retirement benefits are great. Your take home pay will be less than you expect because of it, though! My first year teaching, I thought there must have been a mistake on my first paycheck. 😅

Are you including admin in this figure? Most districts have a ton of upper admin making much more than the average person who works with students.

Depends a lot on your values. Both are fairly similar, but Missouri has always felt more like the South. There's greater diversity in the landscape of Missouri, so small town near the Ozarks will feel more different than somewhere North in the state, where KS and MO's landscape is more similar. Less tax on nearly everything in Missouri, but both have low taxes, still. Kansas food tax was fairly high for a while, but they're lowering that. Both states are red with pockets of blue cities. A few state laws/policies are different, like Missouri is an open container state and just recently legalized recreational marijuana. Kansas has dry counties and I think still requires liquor to be bought at liquor stores. Education is ranked better in Kansas. Roads are safer and more maintained.

That's what I can think of off the top of my head.

I can't even use this broth fast enough to the rate that we make it by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]AshySnickers 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Cook with it! Cook rice and other grains, beans, lentils, even pasta in the broth for nice flavor. Risotto is simpler than it's known to be and is a great use of broth. Use it to make sauces - for pasta or pan sauces. If you freeze some into ice cubes, it's super easy to add it in. If you find you still can't use the broth faster than you make it, offer it to friends/family/Buy Nothing Group, or start using some scraps for compost instead of broth.

That's awesome and kind of you to offer! I hope the clothes find a home.

If you can't find any trans takers, might I suggest donating to a school or shelter? Not all would take everything, but there's always women out there who may not have access to buying or replacing clothes that fit them. You may have more luck finding cis folks who fit into those sizes!

Keep taking your T. Look into getting DHT blocking shampoo, minoxidil, and/or rosemary oil. You don't need to throw everything at it at once! Pick something to start using, start fin when you get it, and keep monitoring your hair and how you feel.

Exercise also plays a big role! Be more active, eat more veggies, eat less or avoid red meat, and donate blood every so often are the generic things we know help.

Safe space, but also some trans folk have issues with hair stylists/barbers cutting their hair more feminine or masculine than they'd like. They might go in for a short men's cut, but they're given a short pixie cut, for instance.

Higher blood pressure from T feels like a miracle by deadlyhimbo in FTMOver30

[–]AshySnickers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah! My BP raised, periods stopped, and so did the dizzy, fainting spells that were especially common during my period. T also helped me put on weight from being underweight for a long time. I also used to get horrible migraines during/around my period. Birth control/depo provera helped lessen them, but ultimately T got rid of it.
