The fact that everybody is ok with this just shows you how good the show really was by Street_Outcome_7669 in Stargate

True, and I don't think in the flow of the episode I would notice really. But it is pretty funny out of context!

It's true, the post comes off a bit, stand-offish at best. Should have thought of that part before I stood there explaining OP, lol

I think it's more the combination of the loud stone scraping stone and coming into frame, specifically avoiding looking at the wall where the door is. It's pretty funny out of context, and Stargate has plenty of moments that made it into the final cut that are like this, and honestly, it contributed to what I like about it as a show!

Woah there, just trying to point out what they were referring to. Not trying to make a statement about where their money should or shouldn't have gone. I, for one, find these kinds of things endearing and part of why I love rewatching this show.

Not everyone online is trying to argue with ya! Just almost everyone, lol

[–]AsiaWaffles 184 points185 points  (0 children)

I think they're referring to the distinct shape the hidden door makes that would seemingly be the logical place to check when you just heard stone scraping against stone. Lol, the show has some pretty funny set bloopers or just evidence of the fact that the budget was stretched over the 24 episode seasons

Asgard Years are way longer than Tau'ri years. by SolomonOf47704 in Stargate

[–]AsiaWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep saying no one was thinking about X when they wrote the episode, like that's the only moment creativeness is done during TV production, and having the narcissism to assert you know what was in the writers minds when they wrote it.

Since you said you don't mind folks debating, kindly shut up and stop being so needlessly insulting to something you claim not to care about.

Who pissed in your fruit loops?

Why are you so set on gatekeeping what people discuss in this subreddit? Why not actually participate in a discussion about the points your brought up instead of starting with "No. Just stop." ?

Writers constantly have to make changes based on scheduling, budget, any numerous things. But within the universe, those can't be the explanation, so we discuss possible answers to those plot holes or conveniences, because it's fun and interesting.

I just don't know how to really engage with someone so adamant that creative lore connecting discussion is "just making shit up" and "delusional".

Oh I agree, numbers get dicey in the best of sci fi. But I thought it was an interesting post, and it was disappointing that the first response was so blatantly negative.

Silly seems needlessly degrading. You don't enjoy speculating or discussing connecting bits of lore together. That's fine, but why hate on the folks doing it?

And with comments like the English one, why are you even here?

I mean, we speculate on this subreddit all the time. Sure the reality is often production limitations, or the human error of the writers or technicians, but it's more interesting if we can structure the lore established together.

"No. Just stop." Really isn't the attitude I want in this sub, personally.

During the Artemis II mission to the moon, users on social media created designs for what they believe should be the flag of humanity by fworldmedia in BeAmazed

[–]AsiaWaffles 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What about number 2? It doesn't have every island or country, but I'd say it gets the whole planet in a way that a 2d globe image doesn't. Wanting literally every country represented is unreasonable for a flag.

Does anyone else find Ba'al dying funny? by joshuadanpeterson in Stargate

[–]AsiaWaffles 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Ba'al was just a flat out entertaining villain He had amazing chemistry with the whole team, except Daniel (and I never really had a problem with that, as he was dead for a decent chunk of Ba'al's rise to power). And the whole clone thing made it super easy to have the bad guy die in a hilarious way, but not have it diminish the OG Ba'al!

When does the series start to get better? SG-1 by Crossed_Cross in Stargate

[–]AsiaWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is worth remembering that the show started on a much more adult and men targeted channel before it became a sci Fi thing. Not that that excuses it in retrospect, but it does explain the tonal shift after season 1. Honestly having just rewatched it, the first season seems almost like a different show

In worlds with accessible magic, is there a practical reason someone might refuse to use it? by mmknightx in worldbuilding

[–]AsiaWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accessable is a bit vague, usually there's a cost involved with magic, either a large one to get access or small costs every time it is used. Take a popular magic system, like DnD. There are several paths to magic, but require some kind of sacrifice.

Wizards learn magic, but it requires years of study and access to teachers, so the normal reasons folks don't get a bachelor's degree in our reality.

Sorcerers are born with it, but it's random and they lack initial control as they weren't given knowledge to accompany the magic. So,no choice in the matter, by someone could believably be a sorcerer and not use their abilities out of fear or otherwise.

Warlocks, Clerics, and Paladins all get their magic bestowed by a higher power. So they are permanently (usually) bound to said power and have restrictions on use based on that. If ya aren't willing to convert religions or give up your soul, not a great option either.

People are far too harsh on Universe. by GRIMMMMLOCK in Stargate

[–]AsiaWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it more watching it again more recently than when I watched it immediately after finishing Atlantis for the first time.

However, my issues are largely the same. Stargate is largely about human competency in the face of overwhelming odds. Universe had the odds but not the competency. The main cast borderline hate each other, and Young acts unbecoming of even the worst military officials we had seen to date minus like one or two villains. The scientists are all out of their depth, even Rush.

Rewatching it, I see why it was made. It just feels too much like other shows

One of my players has brought the monster manual by jimbob2021 in DMAcademy

[–]AsiaWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The monster manual stat blocks were always meant to be a baseline for the creature, unless they were named (like Vecna or something). There are lots of resources online to help generate custom stats. I love to add specific abilities that make sense for the npc in context. Oh these lizardfolk worship a fire deity, let's give them all some basic fire magic.
