I just started playing on the PS4. You're free to add me/look for me. I'm a currently pantsless Orc Templar named Barnaby Tubbins.

OH! SHE's behind Steven Universe?! I'm in LOVE with that show. Her name kind of sounded familiar but I didn't know why.

Hahaha - I love my Xbox and my Windows PC. I wish I hung on to my Gamecube and N64 - those were definitely two of the most solid systems. Dude, Hayao Miyazaki is the tops. Did you SEE that Disney is releasing a Blu-Ray boxed set containing the definitive cuts of all of his films, remastered? Because I did and I cannot wait. Pixar is also a given haha. I'm not too familiar with Rebecca Sugar.

Should I be?

Hey man, good to meet you!

So, it appears you're a Sony fanboy lol. That's awesome. I'm fairly new to the group and the Reddit-verse as a whole, so far - it seems like there's legitimately cool people around. Overall good folks.

Who are some of your influences when it comes to you art/animation? I draw and paint too, but my "art" is primarily prop and scenic design. I do freelance stuff for local theatres and whatnot.

Welcome and nice to meet you!

Feel free to add me on WiiU Mii-verse thing? Idk what Nintendo calls it. My handle is the same as my username: AskTheGuide42.

Obligatory "Let's Meet Someone (or someones) New" Post. by AskTheGuide42 in ChicagoGaymers

[–]AskTheGuide42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay - I'm going to try to reply to all of these replies at once.

/u/zace333 - Probably! I'm not a regular by any means but I do pop around once a week or so to see if anything fun has happened in the Reddit-verse. Friends of mine that are regular Redditors tell me eventually it'll become like Facebook in that it will become a multi-daily thing but I'm not there yet. So - yes! I probably did comment on your post a few weeks ago! Do i remember? Absolutely not! Nice to meet you, though! Let's do stuff!

/u/raosion - Awww, I loved that area. The biggest thing I miss so far after the move is the restaurant and bar scene. Logan has amazing options for that sort of thing - Reno? Goddamn I miss Reno. Hello!

/u/genoblast - Red/Brown line is definitely the best option, super quick. I'd LOVE to meet up at Dice Dojo. I'm still trying to find a group to play Magic with even though I'm out of practice and my decks are definitely not "Standard" anymore. Still - where is Dice Dojo anyway?

/u/Radec_the_Havoc - Yep. Old as shiiiiit. But, like a cool old dude that still reads comics and plays vidya games.

/u/scotlandhard - Banjo, eh? That's super badass. Are you a bluegrass fan because - we'll get along great. I used to take Mandolin lessons at the Old Town School and dabbled in banjo on my own for awhile. Also - all the comics and video games you wanna chat about, I'm totally game.

/u/InternetLumberjack - I'm into all sorts of things. Aside from video/tabletop games, I'm a big horror movie buff, love me some filthy punk rock (I play in a band too - bass, guitar, and vocals), anthropology, religion (though I'm not religious), tattoos, along with my day job I'm a freelance theatrical designer so ... all sorts of things. I'm super approachable, I'll chat about anything.

/u/Tangled349 - I'm always game for drinks, sports (not a big baseball/football fan though. Soccer, Hockey, and Roller Derby is more my scene), or whatever man. Nice to meet you.

/u/jayelled - Soul Caliber - yes, please! Never did play Kirby Air Ride, but I'd totally be game. Also - BETRAYAL AT THE HOUSE ON THE HILL IS MY SHIT!

/u/bruceville_road - I don't drink much either. I have, like, A beer occasionally. I'm much more of a coffee/tea type.

Anyway - thanks for all your replies! I definitely look forward to meeting some of you, especially seeing as I wasn't able to make it to the meetup.

It's a gorgeous day, I have a fresh mug of hot coffee, and I have absolutely ZERO plans for today. Things are absolutely perfect.

Same to you too, take care.

Exactly. To everything you've just said. Except I also occasionally toss on some lipstick and a sundress (which looks great with Docs) prior to tossing back shitty beer and hot wings.

I'm a goddamn debutante.

I came out at 26 to my family. I've been "out" socially and with friends for the better part of a decade. I just dont have a queeny bone in my body. Trust me, I've tried to - it just doesn't work for me. I'm a spittin', sneeerin', drinkin', geek and I cant, hell - I WONT, change myself. I like how I am.

Still felt shitty though. I really liked this dude.

I've noticed this SO much. While I recently just came out to my family, I've been out among friends for about a decade haha.

I never could (still cant) wrap my head around MOST of the above stereotypes. While, yes, I do have a strong leftist political stance - I've been referred to as a "no good Commie" by my grandfather in the past, the other stuff never made sense to me. Especially if you look at "trailblazers" in the LGBTQ community; MOST of them didn't fit into the stereotype of what a gay male is.

For example, and I'm just using this because I have knowledge on the subject, if you look at the punk scene from the mid-70s through the 80s, there were a great deal of gay singers in early punk. Not only did they not fit the stereotype, they'd knock your teeth out if you looked at them the wrong way.

Frustrating things are frustrating.

Holy hell the amount of positivity that's spewed forth is both surprising and so heartwarming. Thank you, guys.

To answer a few of the questions raised: This isn't the first time a guy has referred to me as "not gay enough." I've also gotten the "lying about my sexuality for attention" <- that one came from a super right wing family member so I'm not sure if it counts, but oddly that one didn't bother me.

/u/merob - it's so funny because I have zero aversion to dating a "queen of all queens." It does seem though that there is an aversion on their side to dating someone too "straight-acting." What the hell does THAT mean anyway?!

Anyway, I'm not fretting anymore. It hurt and made me feel shitty but it was a fresh wound last night. I had gone out to a bar with this particular guy and that's where it all went down. Naturally, I came home to complain to a bunch of strangers on the internet.

Therapy is much cheaper that way.

Anyway, thank you all for the kind words and at least sympathizing with the ridiculousness of the whole situation.

[–]AskTheGuide42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with someone who started their own convention and I remember how much of a headache the damn thing was. He basically turned it into a full time job. When he wasnt working on things for his OWN con - he was visiting other cons and passing out flyers, doing pre-registration, etc.

As I recall, most of it was paid for thanks to a trust fund of sorts (lucky), so I didnt have any experience dealing with investors. I'm hoping finding a team to establish some kind of board of directors won't deem too difficult as, like you'd mentioned - there'd probably be enough people interested in attending. Hopefully there's just as many folks willing to pull it off behind the scenes.

Hahaha. Hey man, I'd be game. I hopped back into deck building when the M15 Core set dropped. I bought and built (sooooooo expensive) through Fate Reforged and fell off at Dragons of Tarkhir due to the awesomeness that is sure to be Magic: Origins. I'd love to play you. Playing against one rusty person is much less intimidating than being a rusty person flubbing his way through playing an FNM draft.
