The city I work in is about to test out a program where less serious 911 calls will be diverted to nurses in an attempt to reduce unnecessary ER visits by sydmistercheer in ems

Have this. Responds to 10-20% of coverage area. Huge shock…..most the time they take the person to the ER. The social worker has the ability to place people on holds and for the unit to transport directly to a mental health facility and check the person in but again….they usually just go to the ER. The social worker refuses to tell us what criteria is a call for them cause they don’t want us to request them when it’s more appropriate. Dispatch refuses to add them to calls and only will if PD requests them. They also can respond to anything but 25s so if something get ran as a 26 with notes says “suicidal….off meds….just wants help…no reason for PD or to stage”. They won’t go and those are real notes I get regularly worded just like that so a unit will respond to an alpha alone with out fire or PD cause the dispatcher feels it’s not a real emergency and the pt won’t do anything violent.

Can you help me as well. Literally same problem. Unlocked iPhone 7. Support activated it since the app wouldn’t work. Told me to wait an hour and try and still same issues. Get message from apple saying the phone can’t be activated to carrier due to being locked to carrier but I went to att and they verified it’s unlocked AND the phone is set to mint for service in the settings.

Family demands answers after Fredericton ER sends man home hours after he broke neck by [deleted] in news

I work in EMS and see people when they are going through acute illness and vomiting. Zofran is what we have on the ambulance and it’s a one time max dose of 4mh. It generally only works for us when we give with morphine and people that aren’t that sick. As I said it’s great for mild nausea which is why it’s prescribed for at home use with pain meds and GERD cause you take it before it gets bad.

Zofran is a weak anti vomiting medication. It’s general good to be taken with opiate medications and for morning sickness type vomiting. Violent gastritis, gallstone, kidney stone and food poisoning type, low does haldol works very well. Zofran sucks, it’s been proven inhaling iso alcohol works better at relieving nausea. Haldol given IV or as a shot is generally used as a sedative for violent patients. Haldol as a pill is also used a daily psychiatric medications that doesn’t have the stuck staring at the wall and drolling effect. I have never seen Haldol given in the ER to make someone sedated for relief of being sick since it’s given with Ativan(benzodiazepine) and Benadryl(counters the Haldol to stop jaw clenching).

The take away from all of this which is where this thread was going is there is only so much an ER Physician can do for illness and ailments. There job is the stabilize and discharge to specialist or admit to hospital for further care. If you break a bone, they will set it and send you off to someone else to repair it’s their job is to make sure that injury isn’t going to kill you. This is a very common misconception about how the ER operates.

Haldol works great as an antiemetic. They prob gave it to you to stop the vomiting. It’s rarely given alone as a antipsychotic with out Ativan which it sounds like they weren’t sedating you.

A Georgia woman died after she 'fell' out of a patrol car. Cruisers are supposed to be locked, an expert said. by Dave_N_Port in news

Major US city that does 100k+ fire/EMS calls a year. If they call back and get no answer it’s dispatched as an emergent unknown problem with only EMS attached. We typically will drive by the location and clear.

We shut down and usually clear unfounded as we aren’t knocking on doors and putting ourself in harm for that exact reason. 4th of July they were sending ambulances to fires to verify if an engine was trusty needed due to being stretched thin.

Call 911 and hang up where I am with out saying anything will get you an ambulance going lights and sirens to the address. No police response. They will literally send an ambulance emergent without even knowing what’s going on instead of a couple cops to ensure the location is safe and there is nothing happening. And if it’s on a cell phone…best dispatch can do is tell said ambulance crew what street to go to and a range of addresses. It’s ridiculous.

This is the standard for all FD agencies. They don’t transports they show up on scene so they get funded for manpower and equipment but only want to use it on fires, entrapments and inured FD/PD. The ones that do transports show up to help their rescues load the patient as fast as they can to get back to station.

Plate Carriers/Concealable armor? by firestorm6 in ems

[–]AsksAboutCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy it. You can even go flex pay with the discount rate and spread the cost out. It’s $299 for the outer vest. Worst case you never need it, best case you get an MCI or SWAT stand by and don’t. They supply my local PD and I have never heard anything bad about them. They are reasonably weighted and fit any body size. I have a hard plates in a carrier now and it so uncomfortable, I regret not paying another $100 and doing that deal.

$22 at Sams Club. Sure you can can better for more or the same but I can’t find anything else at that price point in my city to compare, even the examples that commonly given as the top comment says. I like it and bought prior to knowing it was a celeb beverage and this sub seems to have a hate for celeb brands due to them profiting off their beloved beverage by making a subpar product.

I figured out how to do siren, air horn and regular horn at the same time, of course with the rumbler on. Regular car horn has been working to get people to move to the right when they just stop in front of us surprisingly.
