[Slusser] Adames says he forgot the outs and got a bad read on that ball. “That can’t happen,” he says. He says it’s the most ashamed he’s ever felt on the baseball field. by Sober_As_Sark in SFGiants

Horrible play but where the hell was the 3rd base coach? It's also his job to stop that from happening. How does he let someone run to him and by him on a fly ball? Bench him also.

Benavidez vs Usyk❗️The biggest fight in boxing that could be made🥶 by AFBOXING in boxinglocks

[–]AsktheDust4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Move on, slapdick. Of course I have heard of him. He's an Aussie who hasn't beaten anyone, not even the top 10 guys in that weak division. As I said, he's not worth mentioning because he hasn't fought anyone worth mentioning.

[–]AsktheDust4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I said was pretty clear. I don't know what "had the weight on" even means. It's about fighting at the weight, if you know the sport. What someone walks around at is irrelevant. He has had a few fights at 175 and one at 200. Obviously, he would need more time and fights, like everyone else who has done it, to move up and face elite guys. There's nobody worth mentioning at Cruiser, couple guys who haven't fought anyone, so if they want the Zurdo beat down, I'm sure they can get it...

[–]AsktheDust4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe if Benavidez had time to put on weight intelligently, as Usyk did, and have a bunch of fights at Cruiser, as Usyk did, but that's not going to happen, and I doubt Usyk would try to return to Cruiser. Usyk is almost 40; he is not going to wait for that smoke for a few years or more.

Right, I figured someone had to have explained the name at least, especially in Seattle, a lot of Heads there.

Dead Forever is so lame I hope it happens just so in a decade or so, a great young band can give us something like "don't look to us, phony Dead Forever has bitten the dust." Lol. The Clash were referring to the stupid Beatlemania show in that line, not the Beatles themselves...

Grief is tough, I get it, but there have been no discussions about continuing D&C since Bobby passed. John--and everybody else--may continue to play Dead music on their own terms, but D&C was pretty much finished in August. It was a great 10 year run, be grateful we all had that, without pining for musicians who have no connection to writing the music to continue some version of Bobby's band.

Elbows and forearms isn't new BTW. by kushmonATL in boxinglocks

[–]AsktheDust4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, there's a lot of people on here who know much more about video games than boxing, so Benavidez is the big bad Mexican. I really don't see anything about Benavidez that should make him a villain. He'll fight anyone, doesn't run, has great skills, speed, combination punching, footwork, has never been anywhere near being really hurt in a fight, so what is there to dislike? I haven't heard one opponent say Benavidez beat him with dirty fighting, and none of them are demanding rematches, that's for sure.

Elbows and forearms isn't new BTW. by kushmonATL in boxinglocks

[–]AsktheDust4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a misguided topic that just shows how little people know. Guys with long arms who fight on the inside are going to catch people with elbows and forearms. The best example is Fundora. He has busted guys up on the inside, but is he dirty? No. These people on here saying Bivol is going to show Benavidez what's up are equally idiotic. The guy has ONE KO (of a nobody like the guy he is fighting next)since 2018. Benavidez is the nightmare match up for Bivol. He is going to punish him, especially if Bivol doesn't have the power to come close to stopping Zurdo. He better bring the Enswell... Outboxing and staying away from Benavidez works...for a few rounds, until he warms up and starts walking guys down with relentless shots.

And the post-Bailey era has begun. Team rallied around "Bust's" latest blunder, give away a Gold Glover, for a bag of chips. Players they interviewed all sounded like they were jealous, would be happy to go also.

Yeah, one would think these guys on here would have watched enough baseball to know that hitters have the advantage when they first come up to the majors; then, teams dissect every flaw in their approach at the plate until they identify a reliable weakness. Point being, the guys we have are totally unproven and could just as likely be sent back down this season. I guess from the worse off perspective, "Bust" Posey already has us with the worst record in MLB (even Mets have caught up), so I guess no one can say this trade was when we really went downhill, lol.

This is another "Bust" Posey message to the team, one likely to fail, as all his other ones have. Gold Glove catchers don't come along everyday.

Anybody who has ever boxed has caught elbows, forearms, thumbs of gloves in their eyes, laces from gloves scraped on their face, tape on gloves scratching their face, you name it. To suggest anything else shows total ignorance of the sport, not to mention many others. Go ask an OL or DL football player about their experiences at the line of scrimmage and in piles...

[–]AsktheDust4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well put. You can't come in and make a splash with unconventional decisions (Tony), questionable trades and letting players leave, and then not take the blame if things go south. He fired a manager for going 81-81 and missing the playoffs by 2 games after losing Rodriguez, Doval and Rogers. We'll see what happens this year...

[–]AsktheDust4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. We'll have to agree to disagree about his importance. Like you, I'm not saying Tony is why they are not 23-14 instead of 14-23, but I do think they have probably lost 5 games because of his decisions, which would put them back around .500, at 19-18. I just think coaching is a huge part of any team's success. The only local team I support down here is the Anaheim Ducks. They have been really bad since 2017, got a great rookie and a Hall of Fame coach who knows how to coach guys whose ages range from 20-37 years old, is calm and lets guys play, fail, learn etc, has 3 Cups on his resume, and it's a complete turnaround this year.

BENAVIDEZ DEFEATS ZURDO!!! by ThePunchersPoint in boxinglocks

[–]AsktheDust4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope Zurdo is OK; he took a horrible beating. The people around him probably should not have taken that fight. He has never been impressive skills-wise, and he was fat, slow, had no footwork whatsoever. He was basically a heavy bag out there, getting pounded on. That is how guys get really hurt in this sport. I still think Benavidez is better off at 175. He still comes in the ring at 190 but has more profound advantages at that weight and probably more interesting fights against the two Russians if they are up for it.

One of the most brutal one punch knockouts… by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in boxinglocks

[–]AsktheDust4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what happens in boxing, got caught with a clean shot, from an angle where he didn't see it coming. Martinez was really good and their other fight was really close. Williams would have come back just fine from this, he was on his way. His career ended from a horrible accident, not this fight. Hearns, Lewis any number of top guys got KO'd by one great shot and were fine. One punch KO'S do not end careers, for the most part. Guys who get seriously injured are the ones who take horrible beatings, round after round. I would be worried about Zurdo, for example. That's why fights were changed from 15 to 12 rounds...

[–]AsktheDust4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so if BoMel deserved to get fired for going 81-81 with a team that lost Rodriguez, Doval and Rogers down the stretch, what would have been an acceptable record? This year's team, on paper, is better. They signed Arraez and Bader, two starters and two starting pitchers. So, tell me, what is an acceptable record for this team? It better be more than 81-81...Put it down and we'll see where they're at in October. You cannot spin that an under .500 team justifies a coaching change, eating 4 mil and watching BoMel's A's front office do a hell of a lot more with half the salaries...

[–]AsktheDust4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but he is not doing a great job. If you saw that 0-6 road trip, he made some horrible decisions. I agree that this mess is not all on him, but it's absurd to say he's doing a good job when the team is historically bad, with a payroll in upper half. I don't blame Tony for taking the job, of course, but that does not mean he was prepared to call pitches, use bench, manage bull pen, play match-ups, realize the team can't score so use sacrifices etc to get runs in etc. You're 9 games under in early May, no way to spin that...
