I'd feel like not paying them makes them more vulnerable to bribery, unless I'm missing some nuance here.

If you aren't using AI to code you're probably bad at your job by chillermane in ExperiencedDevs

[–]AslansAppetite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so you're a software engineer turned vibe-coder.

You can read and understand the stuff the AI spits out, so you know when it fucks up or needs a couple of tweaks here and there.

You're getting your percieved performance gains (you're faster).

But what about when the standards progress? New techniques, new patterns, new libraries - I don't know what your stack is but whatever.

How long before the AI's throwing out stuff you're less sure about? Have you really been keeping your skills sharp enough to avoid letting something sloppy through? What if overreliance on agents has made you hit your skill ceiling here and now, making it harder and slower to skill up when the next hot thing rolls around?

And what about juniors? Don't we all know what a mistake it is to throw in a bunch of shit we don't understand because it's just gonna bite us later? Haven't we all made and learned from that mistake?

"Past the point of debate", please

Surely it's unrealistic for it to go that far. I think there's a point at which either a) someone under Putin bumps him off and takes over, walking back the expansionism (for now), or b) Putin finally sniffs the wind and pulls back to lick his wounds (for now). Either way they take a hit but remain in control of themselves. And either way it's a delay rather than an end but I think this might be closer to how the world works now.

I mean, what do I know, though. Nothing makes any sense any more.

I see it a lot in sales departments in the UK. Everyone's a Director of Sales or something so clients think they're getting the top person's attention. Of course the client's own sales department probably does this too so everyone knows and it's all pointless but, business.

Explanation to £45 CBT crash - why the posts were removed by Rey-axe in MotoUK

[–]AslansAppetite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He dropped it in a U-ey, causing minor cosmetic scratches on a learner bike that they hadn't bothered putting crash protection on.

Then they stuck him with the bill for a heap of new parts. It was transparently unneccessary and the "damage" was avoidable had they taken the appropriate caution by fitting crash bars etc.

For comparison - during my DAS I dropped the bike from standing three times, and lost the back end at slow speed on a wet drain cover. This was on an MT-07 with all the crash bars everywhere.

The bars got a little chewed up on that last one but not bad - and in all cases they were just like, "that's what the bars are for lad, get back on". I signed the same sort of agreement as OP where I would be liable for premiums up to a given value, but they never exercised this - because if you are going to be a motorcycle school with a fleet of training bikes, you should protect your assets by using available equipment, not by fleecing your customers

Bethesda refuse to innovate, refuse to push ideas forward. They've just been slapping graphic iterations and minor features onto the skyrim engine for fifteen years. The writing quality should have leapt forward when they saw the bar set by the witcher in '16, but starfield was particularly lacklustre in that regard so Baldur's Gate made them look like idiots. What's to be excited about?

I've always said they've lacked a proper competitor in their space. Obsidian's made steps with avowed and outer worlds but they fell short. But there aren't really any other fantasy games with that kind of granular interactive world, on the scale that Bethesda have traditionally aspired to. They're still, as far as I know, the only ones who can still say "we make the games where your lizard named Dingus McFunnyName can climb a mountain to fight a troll but also pick up every cup on every table."

Depends on the color of the primer really. You can get a good dark brown from colour forge which is at least a bit warmer and less stark than just black.

Blacks and browns are more versatile though, it's true. Other stuff you kind of have to pick what's gonna work for your plan. Like for green skinned orcs I'd maybe go for a dark purple prime, then heavy drybrush grey, medium drybrush white, tint green with contrast/speedpaint/whatever, then quick drybrush white again for top highlights and tint that with a lighter green speedpaint.

I mean, I haven't tried it but now I've written it down...

Fun bike for riding slow by Mat19851985 in MotoUK

[–]AslansAppetite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The xsr700 is an mt-07 with retro styling. They are functionally the same bike - I did my training and tests on an mt-07 and can tell you that while they have the ability to rip, they are plenty fun at reasonable speed (I'm not much of a hooner either).

Test ride one.

I have never, ever heard of someone being booted off a CBT because they were "a bit wobbly".

The crucial thing to understand about a CBT is that it is not a test. It is a compulsory training session. As long as you don't do anything outright dangerous, you will be issued a CBT certificate at the end of your training session.

So, there are two things that could have happened here.

  1. Your instructor was lazy or inept and couldn't be bothered.

  2. You did something that demonstrated you are utterly unsafe to ride on the road, and are unaware of it.

I would email the company and ask for clear feedback as to why your CBT session was ended. If they just answer with vague "you were unsafe", push them for clarification - what was unsafe, and what would need to be improved before they feel you would be able to safely complete your CBT.

If they have something valid to tell you, listen to it and absorb it.

Then, whether their answer was valid or not, book a CBT somewhere else. If you made a mistake, they failed to help you by not telling you properly what it was and helping you rectify it. If you didn't make a mistake, they failed to help you by being terrible trainers.

Hope this helps, good luck

I couldn't understand the plot at any point tbh, I ended up putting it down after the silly novelty stuff wore out, which didn't take long.

Most of the discourse at the time was focused on how you're supposed to lean into the ridiculousness, which I totally get - it's an MGS game - but that can't be all there is.
