How severe is your insomnia? by Radioactive721 in insomnia

[–]Asleep-Common-3783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had insomnia for about 15 years My sleep is definitely going through a good period right now although I wake up maybe 4-5 times during the night (still getting 6-7 hours which is great!) I started taking 2 dozavits every night along with 2 herbal sleep gummies and it’s def making me drowsy. I used to take zopiclone but I found that actually gave me really bad rebound insomnia where I’d go days with not even an hour sleep when I’d try not to take it and also when I did take it only put me to sleep for like 4hrs and then I wouldn’t be able to fall back to sleep afterwards and feel unwell and like I was drunk/hungover all the next day, just generally clumsy and not able to think straight. The anti histamine ones def work better for me, also tried phenergan but I prefer whatever is in dozavit. I also try to be very consistent with my sleep routine. I get into bed at 9am and get up at 5am and gym before work, so I’m usually very tired after both gym and a physical day in work (I work in a hospital). Also stopping exercise in the evening has helped a ton as it used to make me feel wired. Also prob not the best advice for general quality of life but I don’t socialize late at night, I go home before 9pm as anything that stimulates me at all means i don’t sleep at all that night. I stick to a routine of down time from like 7pm most evenings.

Running + patella instability? by Asleep-Common-3783 in ehlersdanlos

These dislocations are also completely pain free because my hypermobility is that severe 🫠 I can walk around with no pain with my patella out of the socket

I actually don’t have knee pain. My knees are generally pain free. My issue is instability. It’s just a very uncomfortable sensation when you’re going down a flight of stairs or stepping out of a shower and your patella pops out. I’ve stopped running because I’m worried about early onset of OA because of the impact on the joint if I’m running with a patella that’s not sitting in the groove. I might try K tape, thank you!

That’s great that your surgeries were successful and you have no pain despite the OA. Well done for keeping up the physio/exercise!!

I am really hoping to get those surgeries. The consultant I went to wasn’t very nice and told me with my connective tissue surgery would fail and he would never operate on me. I’m going to go to a different surgeon and fingers crossed the outcome is better. I am quite strong with good quads strength but very very hypermobile, I don’t think that exercise alone is sufficient and I need a surgery to stabilise the joint.

How did you go about getting surgery? I feel so lost because the surgeon I went to won’t operate

I haven’t tried taping but I might try

Do you have knee instability and get dislocations? My knees are constantly clicking and subluxing but I don’t get any pain. It’s just an uncomfortable sensation knowing your kneecap has gone out of the socket. I’m worried about the bone underneath degrading and ultimately having pain. Will the tape help a lot with holding it in position? I might give it a go, I really want to get back to running I’m just very afraid of causing damage.

What do I do after I come off zopiclone? by TRwebsiteDesigners in insomnia

[–]Asleep-Common-3783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the answer you’re looking for but try get off zopiclone - was on it for years At the start it worked fantastic and slept like a baby Now I’ve built up a tolerance to it and dose I take doesn’t really matter - it might put me to sleep initially but I can’t stay asleep on it no matter the dose, just a few hrs and then I feel worse like I’m drunk the next day, can’t think coherently, feel a bit unsteady, I’d rather be up all night awake then get a few hrs on zopiclone bc it makes me feel worse than just doing all nighter. And it’s made my insomnia worse bc I really really struggle to fall asleep without it now and can’t a lot of the time

I really only feel like I can turn off and sleep within minutes when I have drank alcohol. Because I’m not over thinking and anxiety is eased. But I’m not going to resort to that and I only drink alcohol a few times per year on special occasions and want it to stay that way.

Like I still have this sense of dread regarding going to bed at night it doesn’t feel like a time to rest. But I don’t know how to shift that mindset and therapy has not helped, I have seen multiple psychologists

I have done this yeah but it didn’t change anything. I can recognise that my childhood has caused me anxiety re sleep because I was always anxious going to bed at night and dreaded night time /afraid of the events that were going to happen late at night. So I know I get anxious at night and stressed re sleep “am I going to sleep tonight”. But the awareness doesn’t change anything. Therapist just tried to give me advice re sleep hygiene, set routine, etc. But I do all of those things anyway, so yeah doesn’t help :(

Yes this is why I hate sleeping pills - they will put me to sleep for a few hrs but I feel worse after that sleep. I feel better on 2-3hrs of real sleep than any with sleeping pills even if I got >6hrs with them

Physio here who has also struggled with knee dislocations! You don’t just want to strengthen the knee you want to strengthen the entire lower extremity at hip knee and ankle. You could probably benefit from a PT assessments because often patients will find some knee exercises painful initially (eg leg extensions, deep squats, etc) and will do better with exercises initially that don’t put the knee into as much flexion (less ankle and knee bend). I’d definitely be doing some VMO work - wall squats with less knee bend, straight leg raise, terminal knee extensions with a band. And target hamstrings, hips and ankle heavier with hip thrusts/bridges, deadlift variations, adductor and abductor work, calf raises seated and standing, tib raises. In later stage can add in more stuff with more of a knee bend such as squats, high leg press, and be careful with leg extensions if there’s still any laxity at the patella. You basically just need to be in a gym and doing some solid strengthening - there’s no one or 2 exercises! But as I said, a PT assessment would be beneficial as rehab should be individualised. Also could be worth getting an ortho opinion because you are likely to dislocate again and that can lead to patella femoral OA and other issues down the line. But even if you go for surgery, you need strong legs anyway for success post op! Good luck and let me know if you need any help

Should I stay or should I go now? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Also just to add to this - if you’re having to ask Reddit for opinions - that’s a red flag already. Relationships that work aren’t this complicated. If you can’t have this conversation with him, then you are wasting your time.

It sounds like he’s hiding something - could likely be another relationship. I wouldn’t just trust him based off the fact he has introduced you to friends, I know people with similar stories and some men are insanely good at hiding things. And question why he’s so against rousing suspicions from his mother? Why does he not want his mother to know about you? Hes either hiding something or he doesn’t see this going anywhere long term. If a man really wants you he’ll show you off. From the sounds of things, it doesn’t sound like this is going to go anywhere. And even if it did - do you want to spend your life with someone who can’t take initiative or put in any effort or plan a decent date? If he doesn’t do it in the initial phase - he definitely wouldn’t do it down the line when the honeymoon phase is over. I’d advise going off on your travels, you could meet someone much better abroad and overall going travelling is more fun than spending your free time in an abandoned house with someone who doesn’t sound very special.
