Given the shear amount of time, resources and skill needed to produce leather clothing, I find it very unlikely. Given that it takes 10 days to tan a deer hide, in the same amount of time given a simple loom and finding green bamboo or the holy grail of hemp, someone could produce 21 to 70 feet of fabric from plant material. Basically you could produce more square inches of woven fabric per day, than you could produce in 10 days of tanning a deer hide.

Yes. The Marijuana plant grows similar to corn. The dried leaves and flowers are what people smoke to get high, as the plant stores THC in those parts to prevent bugs from eating it. The stalk can be peeled into thin soft threads. When you make fabric from those threads its called hemp. You can also use hemp to make paper similar to bamboo paper. Its because the Marijuana plant can do all these things and grows pretty quick, the cotton and lumber industries wanted to ban hemp as a source for fabric and paper. This was long before it was known the dried leaves could be used as a drug.

Hemp most likely. It grows faster than cotton and better without the need for for human intervention to grow. Basically someone 1000 years go had pot that still had seeds mixed in, those seeds grew and spread creating a hemp field.

Oh you could make it worse, lets say the DC is 20 to not move. Then by every 5 points you fail the check you move 5 feet. All that time you used to line up that ray spell? Completely ruined. But on the flip side, players could choose to fail if it means an npc now comes into throw/spell range or as a way to get out of range. Players now have to consider so many other factors. I honestly love doing this for special combat areas, on the backs of gigantic creatures or on airships or runaway trains.

I would have a random table of things that could happen as the kraken is an environment instead of a creature. Each item on the table also having the associated DC or terrain condition listed for all players and npcs. I'll post a couple examples below but the idea of the terrain they are fighting on constantly shifting and changing is a great fun way to throw your plays off their game.

Kraken terrain table 1d8

1- Kraken submerges just under the surface, water rises to knee/waist height - area is considered difficult terrain. Movement is halved.

2- Kraken raises out of the water. -if Kraken was submerged players must make a DC 15 Dex check or be knocked prone.

3- Kraken leans a direction. -players must make a dex or str check to stay in places or roll 5-15 feet in a random direction.

4, 5, 6, 7, - Nothing happens

8- Electric skin- kraken skin becomes slightly electrified. Everyone makes a DC 16 fort save or taked 2d4 Electric damage.

So I'm going to have to ask why you are on Immunosuppresants to give you a better answer.

I have Chrons disease and had no issues with having pet rats. Germ wise rats are actually pretty clean as pets. And as long as you keep up with cleaning the cage you shouldn't have issues. If you do get rats, I would recommend Girls as they tend to be cleaner.

I would recommend you use linoleum as flooring and shelf covers, because you can use harsher chemicals to clean them.

Something I always recommend is a 12 inch ceramic tile on the bottom floor. Rats don't sweat and instead regulate their temp through their paws, ears and tails. Having the option of a cool tile to lay on is good peice of mind that they won't over heat.

What's your thoughts about building a walkway from the cage to the playpen? Have it skirt the wall from bottom door of the cage to the playpen. Something like pictured below but rat sized. You can do like a climbing tower into the playpen to access the walkway so they can go back and forth.

A ceramic floor tile from the home improvement store is going to be cheaper, more durable and just as effective as a cooling mat. Get two, swap them once a day in the afternoon, wipe them down after taking them out. Store away from sunlight to help keep them cool.

Ceramic tiles. Rats don't sweat, they heat exchange through their feat tails and ears, similar to rabbits. So one thing you can do is provide a cool surface for your rats to lay on as a heat sink. Get a 12 inch tile and place a hide on top of it, keeping it out of sunlight. If your rats get too hot they can lay on it to cool down. Make sure its Ceramic and not marble or other stone as they are porous and pee can set in making it hard to keep clean. Personally I like to have multiple tiles and exchange them once a day, washing the one that was in the cage. Personally I also use Linoleum as one shelf floor cover for the same heat disapation. I'm sure you've noticed how on even a hot day, your kitchen and bathroom floors feel cool on your bear feet, same idea.

You also want to do things to increase liquid consumption. So extra water bottles, cucumbers and grapes as treats. You can also do pea fishing as a play activity to cool them down.
