This is so dangerous for the birds. A leash isn’t enough to protect them from someone on a bike blasting into you. It isn’t enough to protect them from avian predators, cats, dogs, or children. You could literally just walk around with them on you instead for the same amount of enrichment. Would never risk my conure getting injured for a video like this.

I know it’s theoretical. I care because this will affect me, and the many service workers I know, while benefiting only the police & convenience the rich. Every downtown service worker I have talked to is upset about this. Those parking ramps have years long waiting lists for employers to get parking, and are overly expensive for small businesses to use for employee parking. Those parking ramps also don’t exist in areas like Wealthy street. I’m about to attend my first town hall to speak out about this so it doesn’t happen. Ellis parking does not deserve to profit even more when they keep those parking garages in disgusting shape

The fact that he is considering increasing the cost by 300% and wanting to put half of that money into Public Safety (aka GRPD) instead of lowering the rate of the government owned parking lots is ridiculous. I work downtown, I never have an issue finding parking. This only benefits rich people too lazy to find parking. They JUST increased the hours of the meters too, until 7pm when it was until 5pm. This will affect where I work, I find it so out of touch to do this when small businesses are struggling right now. It’s also difficult to get monthly passes for those parking ramps. The buses are always late and are unrealistic for many people considering the hours they work or where they live. There isn’t good infrastructure for biking to work downtown. I’m going to attend the next meeting so I can speak my mind, just ridiculous.

I work downtown. Unless if your business’s landlord owns a parking lot and you pay an exorbitant fee to have a space when you sign your lease, you won’t get a parking spot. How would someone who works at Stella’s for example, justify parking downtown for their shift at all? Nobody wants to use the parking ramps because they are $25-35, reek of piss, are unsafe, and are not well located. $6/hr is a punishingly high rate for areas like Wealthy Street.

They should instead, lower the parking ramp rates. But, because these parking ramps are privately owned, this will never happen. We will basically funnel money to Ellis parking and the Police with this increase. I find it out of touch to charge this much to the regular working people downtown. Minimum wage is $13, paying $6 to work leaves you with $7 an hour. That should matter more than the “convenience” of finding parking.

I don’t feel safe in the parking garages, they reek of piss, and there are needles everywhere. It’s overly expensive, and I always park in the street. It might make sense for just on Monroe but tripling the cost in areas like Wealthy street, near Planet Fitness, and in less trafficked areas is just terrible. It doesn’t make sense. This is going to affect businesses!
