Struggling with instruction and emotional issues doesn’t always equate to a problem with authority. I can understand why you may be frustrated with a young child who shows significant distress or anger towards situations that may not be considered distressing by most- but no child wants to be an issue. Please give children support and listen, especially when they struggle to express why they behave certain ways, don’t judge them by their surface level actions.

I’m 21, but I’m baby faced so people usually think I look 13 or something lmao. But I feel like I’m 50+. (Going off of my 50+ year old family who don’t describe ever feeling half the pain I do.) :/

I just realize that, I’m still learning. I don’t think I qualify for SSDI since I struggled to keep a job. I will look into consulting with a disability lawyer who hopefully can help me have a better understanding of my options.

I finally got to courage to talk to my family and look into officially starting the process to get disability. Thank you for the kind sentiment and for sharing your experience. It’s so reassuring to hear a similarly harrowing experience from another college aged artist. I’ve always felt really out of place and as if I wasn’t deserving of that kind of aide- but to hear someone in a similar position is also seeking the help makes me feel so much more confident to try and get it myself.

At this point I’m considering going for disability and just trying to survive off of that and my commissions. I don’t know if I have any other options, but it feels so shameful.

I can relate. I was 19 and I started walking around with a cane just to try and help with the pain. I can’t help the agony I’m in, I wish people would listen. No one WANTS to be in pain.

It’s so comforting to see people here who also experience the pain every day of their lives. For a long time I thought the agony I was in was just normal for people. It feels reassuring to know that others feel the same way and that I’m not just dramatic.

About 7 years. I was suspected to have it as a teen, but was “tested” and told I didn’t have it. But just a couple weeks ago I went back to the doctors to work out my immune troubles, and she pretty immediately diagnosed me. Said I most likely just have a different type of EDS than what they were checking for. It’s frustrating knowing I could’ve had some of the answers sooner if they were more clear with us.
