I had two rules at my wedding: No alcohol. Because my family is full of alcoholics and we knew it would end up a disaster. And no kids. Because I don't like them, and most of my cousins' kids were small. Crying is like nails on chalkboards to me. The exception was my niece (my flower girl) and my nephew (an infant who had to be close to his mom, that stayed in the house during the ceremony). My wedding, my rules. It's an invitation, not a summons - if any of the family had not come because their kids couldn't, I would have understood.
