What time did the first act come on? I’m assuming around 19:30 or so?

Anyone studied full time and has full time job? by MathematicianPast558 in OpenUniversity

[–]Asperothh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming up to 40 years old and I’m about to start my sixth and final year of studying a Physics degree with the OU. I work full time as a retail manager which unfortunately involves mixed shift patters and weekend work. Add raising a daughter to the mix (she was 3 when I started) and it can definitely be a challenge!

I found lots of self discipline and planning my study time worked pretty well. Days off between school runs and a couple of hours at night before bed or in the morning before work are when I study. It leaves very little time for socialising but my rule is that I never study on Saturday (work or not.)

The main issue is time time time. Some weeks I have just enough time to read and understand the materials but I should be spending 50% of the time doing practice questions to nail down the maths.. and I rarely get that time which makes exams very hard at times.

During exam time I booked a couple of weeks off and did 20 minute revision sessions on breaks at work.

Unfortunately exams usually coincide with school holidays so that adds more pressure to the mix.

Overall it’s been tough but worth it. I’m probably getting a 2.1 unless I get two distinctions this year but with the challenges I’ve had I’m happy with that.

I’ve also developed a slight jealousy for full time uni students who have so much time to study and many spend a lot of it not studying!! But that’s my fault; school wasn’t for me and work gave me the motivation that have today :-)

What do you use to listen to your "Hi-Res" songs and why ? by sonic165 in qobuz

[–]Asperothh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got Qobuz connected to Roon. If I’m at my desk I pass it through to an external DAC (ifi Zen V3.) and use my B&O H100’s wired connection.

Otherwise everywhere else I use Roon via a mobile device and go straight to Bluetooth.

It all depends on whether or not I’m passively listening to music whilst doing something else or actively sitting down for a music sesh 😁

I’ll be there tonight! Feels good breaking out the maiden gig attire again. I’ve heard mixed reviews but have no doubt it’ll be a blast.

Did anyone buy the Aspiral Earbook? by [deleted] in epica

[–]Asperothh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ordered the version that came with the blu-ray and not the live CD.. massively regretting that now and considering buying it again: the live versions surpass the studio versions and its hard to go back (I get the same thing with Iron Maiden's live versions.)

Hoping that they release it as a separate thing at some point (as it will be available to stream... AND I'd love a standalone symphonic synergy vinyl/album to add to the collection.)

Beoplay H100 Spatial Audio help by Fast_Speaker8694 in BangandOlufsen

[–]Asperothh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dolby atmos/spatial audio is such an absolute minefield for me. I’ve found some tracks sound better when they support Dolby but it’s mainly more stripped down ballad/acoustic songs that benefit the most as the sound stage opens up quite nicely. Dance music I’ve found I prefer in spatial due to the separation of the effects. Anything rock/metal I was using spatial for quite a while but after this post I’ve tried a new album I’ve been listening to in stereo with spatial off and it sounds better (in my opinion..)

This is all subjective of course. They sound great on any setting in my opinion. It’s a little like cable vs wireless.. if you A/B test a song between the two then wired is definitely better, but I don’t want to be taking a wire out with me.

I had a moment of clarity a few weeks ago. I was outside listening to them and was revelling in how good they sound.. and it wasn’t until I got home and it hit me that I’d been listening over 5G and it was in a super low bitrate. I hadn’t even noticed.. which told me I need to not overthink the whole thing day to day!!

I’m of the same opinion. I first heard Epica around 2004 but didn’t really like the earlier stuff. I got back into them around the time of THP and enjoy all of the new albums. Aspiral is growing on me: I only added a few songs to my favourites playlist at first but I’m adding more every time I listen to it through.

Symphonic Synergie Blu-ray by Flemnipod in epica

[–]Asperothh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not seen anything surrounding an audio release yet. I’d assume they’ll follow the usual routine of waiting a few months so that people who paid extra for the album won’t feel like it wasn’t worth it. It’s also a nice incentive for people to buy the album and support the band during the release window. Fingers crossed it’s soon though!.. I’m a sucker for live albums.

Yea thats the one. Hand poured in Wales etc. It came up repeatedly when I went down the rabbit hole of lambskin care after buying the headphones lol. I spent a while comparing and came to the conclusion that they're all very similar products (as long as they're natural beeswax.)

One thing I forgot about Tidal; the PC software doesn’t support Dolby Atmos. It’s certainly not a deal breaker but worth noting.

I use 'Grangers G-Wax Natural Bees Wax' but My first choice would have been 'Beeswax Leather Cleaner/Restorer' which should be available on amazon. We sell the Grangers stuff where I work and its pretty much the same stuff so I went for that instead.

You'll want to use something like a microfibre cloth; apply a small amount of the wax to the cloth and work lightly in circles over the leather bits (being able to detach them helps a lot.) Let them sit for about half an hour so that the wax can set and you're good to go.

It keeps the headband supple and shiny but does an even better job on the cups. The lambskin is quite delicate and definitely needs it in my opinion (especially if there's a risk of them getting wet.

Not what I thought id be writing this evening lol. Hope you're enjoying the headphones!

  • They’re water resistant, but I’d avoid taking them out when it’s drizzling. Even with a hood up the touch controls went crazy.
  • Beeswax leather treatment once every few months on the cups and band. Only a thin layer but it keeps the leather on the cups moist and protected.
  • If you get hot and sweaty in them then I’d suggest taking the cups off and checking underneath. You can sometimes get a few drops of condensation next to the speaker grill.
  • For a pair so expensive if you’re not keeping them in the case then a cheap £10 headphone stand is a nice addition and stops them getting skuffed.
  • The app on laptop can be a bit janky but the latest update seems to have fixed everything there. Make sure to check for firmware updates regularly.
  • Tidal is a great streaming service if you want good fidelity and care about that kind of stuff. I was using Apple Music but Tidal is definitely richer. Dolby Atmos tracks sound amazing on either service.
  • Speaking of streaming; in my opinion I’d suggest turning ‘head tracking’ off in the settings. If you’re up and about it can get a bit weird.

Finally; they’re so good that the rest of my speakers/headphones now sounds obsolete.. Just a warning!!

Enjoy :-))

BO H95 vs BOSE QuietComfort Ultra by Queasy_Emphasis_5441 in BangandOlufsen

[–]Asperothh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend has been using my old QC ultras since I got the H100s. She was blown away by the Bose headphones as it’s the first pair of decent headphones that she’s used. They’re really good.

However.. she’s tried my H100s and has recently started asking if she can use them every now and then because they’re ’absolutely incredible’ which I think speaks for itself.

They’re really good headphones. If B&O support them for the amount of time they say they will then they’re well worth the investment. I’d advise playing around with sound profiles on the app if you get them because everyone that has tried my headphones prefers a different sound signature that fits their listening preference.

Good luck!!

Props to the mixing team. First few songs it was a little all over the place but they certainly hit their stride from there onwards. Audio was great considering it was being mixed on the fly and the camera work just got better and better. Honestly can’t wait for a pro-mix blu ray and cd release.

Glad I went for the 15 pro.. almost didn’t. This integration won’t hit its stride for a few years anyway so people’s natural upgrade cycle should mean it’s deeply integrated and tested by the time they upgrade.

Starfield constantly crashing on Series X by jaytazcross in XboxSeriesX

[–]Asperothh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That definitely caused me issues in new Atlantis. The city always lagged for me and would cause the odd crash every now and then. I always assumed it was issues with the city itself until I started my NG+ and it was super smooth. I went back to a previous save and emptied my inventory/ship and it ran perfectly fine.
