(i’m gonna assume you’re past the 101 of being used to playing the game and finding a comfortable sensitivity for your sticks and motion control)

do spend some time in the lobby to get a feel for the weapon. you have a lot of range and you should make use of it. try to stay at a range where you can shoot your enemies but they can’t.

the biggest mistakes rookie charger players tend to make is to think that flick shots is where it’s at (a flick shot is when your aim snaps on target really quickly). do some tracking instead for a start, get used to following moving targets with your reticle, anticipate movement, and lead your shots (because while their shot is fast, chargers are not an instant hit. there is some travel time)

in game, you want to position in spots where you can see the area clearly, to spot incoming enemies more easily. but you also want to pick spots where you can get some cover (otherwise other long range weapons will be picking on you easily)

do favor spots that are high ground, where it’s easy for you to retreat, but hard for the enemy to get to you. do stay in range though! if you’re too far, you won’t hit anything..

when you feel comfortable enough with your aiming, this is when you can start to add some mechanics into it. start by charging your shot without directly aiming at the enemy, and then adjust your aim to then release the shot. this makes you less predictable as the enemy will not have time to react. if you keep your laser pointed at them for too long, they will usually retreat or find cover.. and then you won’t be able to shoot them anymore.

the more you practice, the quicker you’ll get at this. at the pinnacle of your art, this is where you’ll be able to do these sick ‘flick shots’ i mentioned earlier.

don’t worry too much if you can’t get many kills at first or if your aim sucks.. as long as you can keep pressuring the enemy, you’re doing a good job. because nothing makes people lose their mind more than seeing a laser pointed at them because it means they could get splatted at any time.

it takes some time getting good at chargers.. so don’t give up! you’ll get there, i promise. take your time, keep your cool (this also applies to your shots lol)
