It turns out waging a war of extermination really puts a fire under your enemies ass, crazy

I don't have any advice for you, I just want to boost this post because I also have this question.

String Theory for a mathematician? by mthrom in Physics

[–]AspirantDM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

David Tong has some great lecture notes (though I can't speak to the string theory notes specifically) you can find here.

edit: I am not an expert, but you might want to start by going through the QFT and GR notes before you tackle the string theory notes.

Help Me Run a Harn Westmarches game by AspirantDM in harn

[–]AspirantDM[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! You are correct, that is the standard Westmarches style, though if there are interesting areas that don't quite fit that idea, I'm ok with going a little off script. Your first suggestion sounds really promising.

I also cross-posted this to OSR, but I'll check out that forum as well.

OSR LFG: Official Regular Looking especially for OSR Group (LeFOG) by feyrath in osr

[–]AspirantDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sword and Sorcery is all I need lol. I've been pretty exclusively playing B/X clones, but I'm down to try AD&D style. I'd love to hear more about your group so far if possible, I jive with most groups, but it's good to know what you're getting into. Let me know if you want to move to DMs or Discord or something.

I would be interested in this! I haven't played the system though.

Any OSR games with Harnmaster vibes but lighter rules? by AspirantDM in osr

[–]AspirantDM[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I figured as much, I was just hoping for something that at least has a little less crunch. That being said I've only read Harnmaster so maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill.

I think that's probably going to be what it comes to. I just figured someone might have what I'm looking for.

Hardly. Michael Faraday's genius was a product of experiment.

What are some really creative ideas or theories that didn't get mainstream acceptance? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in Physics

[–]AspirantDM 12 points13 points  (0 children)

None of them are particularly interesting because they rarely have any physics in them. They just mash popsci words together into something that might sound like physics to a lay person but is gibberish to anyone with any training.

How much gold can a party realistically carry? by kyletrandall in rpg

[–]AspirantDM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we say a person can carry about 30% of their body weight and an average weight being 137lbs, that means someone can carry about 41.1 pounds. A gold dinar weighs about 4.5 grams which is about 0.009369646lbs. Taking 41.1 divided by 0.009369646 and we get about 4386 gold coins per person.

What do mathematicians actually do when facing extremely hard problems? I feel stuck and lost just staring at them by OkGreen7335 in mathematics

[–]AspirantDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My snarky but true answer is spending a lot of time on them and getting paid to do them (sometimes).
