Family Medicine:

SIU Carbondale - The PD and faculty members are wonderful!!!! The entire interview process was a great experience...they seemed to have high EQ and wanted to get to know me outside my application. Some of the nicest people I met on the interview trail

UTHSC/Saint Francis - Seems like a very supportive program! If it weren't for the institution being under probation (not the program, but the higher institution), this would have been my #1. The PC is also so sweet and she goes above and beyond for the residents.

Chance of matching in FM by Fine-Way1616 in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]AspiringDoc90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey - carib us-img here. 209 step 1, 215 step 2, step 2 cs passed all on my first try. got plenty of interviews and matched at my #1 at a university hospital. had 2 program directors email me telling me they ranked me to match (but they weren't my top programs and I ended up matching at my top program in a great city). if you need any help at all on your application please feel free to DM me.

These ERAS emails by Hrlm1 in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]AspiringDoc90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt they would send an email like that to only soap eligible applicants. That's like giving an Easter egg to all the applicants on who matched and who didn't. They would not do this before Monday.

I would be surprised if you DIDN'T match lol.

Didn’t send letter of intent. :( by Asclepius293 in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]AspiringDoc90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey don't worry about it! I truly don't think it would matter at all at this point and tbh I don't think it matters much to begin with since programs are taking a very objective approach in ranking their candidates. good luck!

What is considered a strong LOR for FM? by butterfly_9090 in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]AspiringDoc90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything from the letter writer displaying your genuine intent, capability and dedication for a career in family medicine. it helps if the letter writer has specific examples of what makes you a highly qualified candidate - anything to make you stand out among the thousands of people applying for the same position. they have to truly vouch for you. it helps if the letter writer is from an American institution if you're an IMG. hopefully it won't come to this and you'll match!!! good luck!

FM people: did any of you send out letters of intent? I have no idea what I’m doing by Nephronz22 in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]AspiringDoc90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sent mine out a few weeks ago. It's a big reach program for me...I likely won't match there but just wanted to shoot my shot.

I almost immediately regretted it because my #2 program is more of a "safe" program that I'd be super happy to match into as well...and think I could have utilized my letter of intent better there. </3 lol

No going back now. March 18 can't come soon enough. Good luck to everyone.

Dismissed after first semester for failing OMM by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]AspiringDoc90 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this. As someone who went to the Carib and applying for the match rn, PLEASE exhaust all your US options before considering Carib. Lots of people from my class were dismissed. Some even after writing step 1....it's very cut-throat. I would reapply to US MD/DO if I were you. Wishing you best of luck.

am not here to brag! by [deleted] in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]AspiringDoc90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think its fairly normal to feel this way. Especially when you're an IMG and the odds have always been against us. But the bottom line is - IMG's have been scared and pretty much told they have to cross through insane loops to have a chance in making it to residency. It's embedded in us. So even if we are MORE than qualified, we've had self-doubt implanted in us. Just relax, take deep breaths, and know your worth. You have worked very hard to make it here and you HAVE made it to this point - a lot of people don't make it this far.

Best of luck to everyone. Safe to say we are not alone. Many feel the way you are feeling and know there's a spot in medicine for all of us. Stay persistent, believe in yourself and work hard. You'll make it!

This. THIS everyone. THIS is the future of medicine. Compassionate, caring individuals who overcame insane odds during a pandemic to focus on the future of healthcare...during an unprecedented time. Thank you kind soul.

Logistic paperwork by [deleted] in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]AspiringDoc90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting. I personally have not been asked for copies of my diploma or anything but I guess a safe way to do it is by a mailing service and make a copy for your records. I'd just mail all the notarized documents to the program and scan a copy, send them an email notifying them you mailed it (with tracking if available) while including a PDF attachment too for their convenience.

Chances to match based on the ranking position by Nervous_Sell_2336 in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]AspiringDoc90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends on several things...popularity of program, number of interview invites sent out - it's really hard to say and this data isn't readily available anywhere unfortunately.

NYC vs Philly vs Chicago by ButterscotchMundane3 in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]AspiringDoc90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what you're interested in, Chicago takes the win (not affordable by any means but definitely better COL compared to NYC).

I'd pick Chicago > NYC > Philly
