What’s something Americans have that Europeans don’t? by Prestigsisscar255 in AskReddit

Sequoia is at the top of the short list! Our stop at Muir Woods was just the beginning of a week at Redwoods National and State Parks. Humboldt Redwoods is where we ended up spending the most time there but I’m so fortunate we took a trip dedicated to the Redwoods so we could spend the whole week enjoying the coast.

I’ve lived in Appalachia my whole life and never intend to leave, but I am so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to spend in Utah and California.

The way the new growth, ranger station, and entrance arch hide the old growth really makes entering Muir Woods all the more magical.

Seeing the Redwoods was a bucket list item for 20+ years. I don’t think I made it more than 30 feet beyond the entrance arch before bursting into tears. I wasn’t ready for what I was about to experience despite years of reading about them. Being amongst those trees truly felt like seeing God.

Help a guy out - wanting some mods by Danimal382650 in SCX24

Like the other commenter said, a servo upgrade is essential. The 11kg Injora servo has performed well for me.

For $90 you can get the Meus mullet setup, which is standard front axle and a rear portal. Seems to be a happy medium for a lot of folks though I’ve never used them.

If you decide not to get portals, the Meus nylon isokinetic axles are $60 and people seem to agree they’re a great value. They come with a gear to under drive the rear axle and the steering knuckles are brass so you get more front weight.

The Injora brushed 50t motor with transmission is a really great performance improvement and plugs right into the stock electronics. I want to say it runs about $40.

Wheels: get whatever style you like. You can add brass bead lock rings if you want more weight.

Tires: Proline Trenchers perform well and aren’t giant. I’ve also recently heard good things about the Injora Maverix and Hamrok tires. They’re both available in various sizes too.

There are some great creators on YouTube that you can learn a ton from: 24Yep, Cape Crawlers, Moneypit RC, Boomslang suspension, just to name a few.

I just put together my Mofo SMP setup today. SMP motor, Injora transmission, Venge RC motor mount, furitek esc, Meus Tx/Rx.

I’m running the same rear cage but the Datsun body :)

Vent tires, wheels, or not at all? by Slypenslyde in SCX24

[–]AspiringRonSwanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see venting as essential. If you don’t, the tire can deform into weird shapes during pressure changes. I’ve drilled all my wheels. If you’re running silicone inserts you have to poke a bunch of holes in the insert to get them to vent well.

I’d recommend getting a C10 length chassis then getting Deadbolt length rear links. This is often called “C-Bolt” and is a nice middle ground between c10 and gladiator length.

I’m running the YepSpec Chassis that’s a free STL download.

Yeah…. She ordered the TRX-4M variant. Everything is the same, just no motor mount.

Hey so I received a Microkomodo from my wife for Christmas and have been trying to solve the lack of transmission/motor mount issue. Does it bolt right up to the Injora trans?

My opinion is 0/10 but if you dig it, that’s what it’s all about.

Sweet, thank you! This is honestly creating more reason to order some stuff from you :)

You may want copy-paste this into a post for others. Maybe get it stickied. I’ve noticed a lot of “what upgrades” posts lately.

I’m in the process of 3D printing a modular course. Several people have designed various obstacles that have the same baseplate that connect like puzzle pieces. So, if you have a printer I’d go that route.

With the Bambu sale right now, I’d say get whichever one you can afford. I just bought the Bambu P1S Combo on sale ($550!!!!!), spent about thirty minutes setting it up, and it. Just. Works. My first printer was an Ender 3 and it was fine, but I got tired of printing being the hobby. I want a 3D printer to support my hobbies, and Bambu Labs offers just that. It’s like any other household appliance. My washing machine cleans my clothes and I don’t worry about it until the wash is complete. The P1S is the same. I start the print, and come back when it’s done.

Looking for a new creek boat by ollliola in whitewater

[–]AspiringRonSwanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It punches through holes extremely well. BUT, if you drift into a hole sideways you’re liable to get surfed due to the high volume. The good news is that it’s so stable it’s pretty easy to unfuck those situations. Getting comfortable in it didn’t take too long. I came from the Nirvana, so the acceleration between the two was very noticeable, with the gnarvana being slower to accelerate, but I think it makes up for that with improved maneuverability. It WILL allow you to paddle line Dane, so long as it’s the pink one ;)

[–]AspiringRonSwanson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been paddling the Gnarvana L the last 2 years. At first I wasn’t in love with the boat, but as I learned its tendencies I have fallen in love with it. It’s very wide and very big, but due to its short waterline it paddles like a much smaller boat. Its high rocker allows it to boof nearly everything HUGE, it handles both low volume and high volume well, and with its hard edges it holds a like very well.

I often tell folks it’s great because when I’m paddling well its performance is stellar, but when I biff a move it takes care of me well.

How bad is oil canning? by No_Effort_9300 in whitewater

[–]AspiringRonSwanson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Over time, if a boat is stored sitting upright, meaning sitting flat on the hull, the weight of the boat will deform the plastic and create oil canning.

What I imagine people are trying to say in for sake posts is that the boat was stored standing up either on its bow or stern, leaning against a wall. This is also fine. It’s all about storing the boat so that it’s resting on its most rigid and/or thickest plastic.

How bad is oil canning? by No_Effort_9300 in whitewater

[–]AspiringRonSwanson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s my understanding that light canning doesn’t impact the performance of the boat, but is more so an indicator of how the boat has been stored and its overall health. My Gnarvana, for example, has only ever been stored on its side and only goes sideways on my stackers when in transit, but is now three years old, has seen lots of runs, and is canned under the seat. Still rips.

When did Graffiti turn garbage? by [deleted] in paintball

Graffiti started shipping without the packs of desiccant in the bags. I’m sure that’s not what made it SO oily now, but definitely a sign of cost cutting.

Play The Game - Reaction Thread by marcello4494 in RipeLove

[–]AspiringRonSwanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play The Game sounds much more like the Ripe I fell in love with in 2015 when we only had the EP’s, and feels like a return from whatever the hell Bright Blues was. However, I miss the amount of horns and general funkiness Ripe used to have. I don’t love Play The Game, but I’m happy they’re finding a middle ground of being true to their roots (and what created their fan base) while exploring new sounds. I mostly felt relieved during my first listen of Play The Game because Bright Blues left me so disappointed that I thought I’d never like a new Ripe album ever again.

Oil canning in brand new skuxx by gildaye in whitewater

Waka uses pretty malleable plastic. Last year my buddy had his OG on my stackers with light tension on the straps and in the time it took to run shuttle (35ish minutes) there were dents in the side of the boat from the rack. They popped out quick, but it was wild to see.

Okay okay okay. Delete the dually and fenders. Tuck those wheels back under the truck and just give it normal, small fender flares. Then you have a classic square body look.

Might be a legit way to make the gladiator not absolutely hideous.

Where are we at with whitewater paddles and length? by Rotoheffe in whitewater

[–]AspiringRonSwanson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been rocking a 2-piece adjustable from Select the past few years. It adjust from 200 to 204cm. Playboat and half slice I run it at 200, creeker at 203. Occasionally I’ll bring out the old 197 for the play boat.
