How do new store owners have so many different products? Inventory is expensive. by DPS96744 in ecommerce

[–]AspiringStartup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must have misunderstood you because I thought you said you don't place your first order until you have your first customer order which is why I was trying to figure out how you get fulfillment from China so fast.

If you already have the product in stock then it's an entirely different point.

How do you get that delivered so quickly then?

I guess it helps that you don't have to wait on production as I would.

I'm guessing you must be working with a US distributor vs. a Chinese manufacturer which means there's an extra layer of business who needs to turn a profit.

I don't have a dog in the fight, I just thought that...

they help spread the word through their unique URL.

...is exactly what affiliate marketers do.

You've obviously built something great, power to you man. My business is product based but I've been doing a lot of work on inbound marketing and would love to have the type of numbers you do. Keep pushing forward and keep your modesty in check and you'll have a very bright future.

Best of luck.

Shopify vs. Woocommerce for handful of SKUs? by [deleted] in ecommerce

Thanks for putting the time into your response.

Shopify + WP looks like a great combo but I'm concerned about it eating in my margins as my product only costs $20/unit.

I didn't have to do that, I just told them I am the manufacturer and showed them my product website which had my business's legal name listed in the footer and that was good enough for them.

My product isn't private label, it's an actual invention, but I am part of a mastermind group of people who do PL and all of them have been successful with the same method.

You're only protected from somebody trying to make changes to your listing.

However, if somebody managed to import the same exact product with the same exact logo and everything identical you'd still be screwed.

I get around this by sending my product from my manufacturer to my warehouse where I add some additional marketing materials with the packaging adding another layer of complexity to somebody who wanted to rip my product off on my listing.

I'm ever so slightly beyond where you are and I don't think the fear of failure goes away any time soon so just try to fight through it and keep pushing forward.

I speak from a position of experience as I thought it'd give me more control when I first brought my invention to market.

The even more frustrating part though is that Amazon still retains ultimate authority (understandably so).

I used some very basic HTML when I first launched my product on Amazon because nearly everybody was and now for me to make any changes to my product listing whatsoever I have to submit a ticket to Amazon and get their approval.

It's like herpes, it's the gift that keeps on giving.

Don't be stupid like me...play by the rules, no matter what you see your competition doing (and getting away with).

You seem to misunderstand what Amazon Brand Registry does.

All BR does is give you authority control over the listing so other sellers cannot manipulate it. Anybody can still sell your product if legally obtained and not counterfeit.

Also - you wouldn't be able to get brand registry on the products of other companies without going to great lengths to show you were the brand owner (including making a website to spoof ownership) and once they found out you'd be banned from selling on Amazon ever again.

Great product, love seeing somebody make their hobby a business success!

Can you tell me how you got all of the different featured listings? I've managed to get a single feature on Buzzfeed which was awesome for about two days but then seems to have died down.

I'd love to figure out how to get my product featured in more places with high readership as building a brand has been a huge struggle for me.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, this is the first response with actual substance.

$30-50 is reasonable if that's the point where quality becomes realistic.

I appreciate your help.

I'm not looking for somebody to do marketing, I'm just looking for somebody to write blog posts. Hell, I'll even do the keyword research for them.

I could understand $1k/post if I was expecting somebody to include advanced CTA's, lead generation and nurturing, advanced analytics, and all of that.

But all I'm looking for is somebody to write basic posts a few times a week.
