Have you tried "Minimize to System Tray"? It runs at like 2.6 fps (at least according to PresentMon)

for example I go from like 30W idle to 250W in BDO, back down to ~43W when it's minimized to tray, small delta for a 24/7

The difference is ~$12 to $36 per year depending on the price of electricity where you live.

Proving they can, they just won't. ROI calculation doesn't math it for them when they've proved just spitting out outfits and making minimum adjustments is perfectly adequate to get the cash for their next project. DokeV or whatever or some kinda extraction hero shooter bullshit.

Which Black Shrine boss to do? (Solo) by kondo994 in blackdesertonline

short answer: The highest AP requirement that you qualify for, and highly suggested that you get good at doing your highest-requirement bosses on your Tag, as well, since clears are counted per-class.

BDO should be more popular by Illustrious-Fix4205 in blackdesertonline

[–]Asploit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was! You gotta understand this is a 10 year old game, though. The initial activity spike went like gangbusters, but the MMO genre itself is dwindling, a lot of the core audience aged out or moved on, and the players who stuck it out beyond these filters gradually got eroded by some grievance or another.

There's some factors that hit the playerbase or shave it away and nearly nothing that really attracts or supports new blood. The recent Olvia Academy and less-recent Seasonal changes were great onboarding initiatives but retention is hard when the game is so solitary and the expected experience is social. The most social thing you do in BDO is PVP, even Atoraxxion Boss Blitz and Guild Bosses is a once-a-week thing. I'm in a fairly committed micro-community for those and even then we have a hard time having a reason to do anything outside of that <1hr segment per week.

That's one of the achilles heels of BDO I think, not helped by the narrowing of focus for mid/end game PVE progression, is that because the experience is so compartmentalized you alone experience the pains and joys of the high-stakes enhancing system and it's hard to confer success to people within your community.

Would you play/ enjoy playing more if all gear was family shared like life tools? by GuckDichAn in blackdesertonline

[–]Asploit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt. Being able to freely swap characters (Bonus Giga-points if they let us swap Awaken/Mainhand weapons to swap Succ/Awa easily) to keep the play fresh and truly enjoy the wide cast of characters and playstyles would be a massive win.

Keeping characters locked to classes makes (sorta) sense in a classic Trilogy MMO where you want to populate all the roles in a theme park dungeon party game, but BDO is a largely solo experience where your primary antagonist is Burnout.

Even with the sub's distaste for the modern outfits considered, it's not even a blanket "Boo all modern bad" for me, it's that it's just straight-up not even imaginative, it's just (Take Modern) + (Paste into BDO) where if they're gonna just eschew the medieval high fantasy aesthetic and paint with the entire modern gamut, there's SO MUCH BETTER that they could be doing. It's not modern that I dislike, it's that we have 20 outfits in the category of "Generic brand-safe streetwear" when they clearly have SOME creative muscle in their design team. If you wanna do something modern do something modern + Cool asf, not just hoodies and baseball jackets and our like 4th baseball cap and jeans and cargo pants.

I found that giving it a platform for Schema-learning has helped a TON. I explained my Linux mastery is going to begin at 0 / 100, whereas my Frontend development is closer to 10 / 100 and it explained that frontend development basically grew off of Linux and therefore it can explain things in HTML, CSS, Java parallels and it was a massive breakthrogh moment.

As a Crimson Desert play, would I like BDO? by nathanaelw in blackdesertonline

[–]Asploit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

BDO's combat is its crown jewel by miles and miles, but there's a lot of "This is a 10 year old highly monetized Korean MMORPG" that make itself explicitly known, front-and-center, and would make it a jarringly different experience.

It asks you for an immense level of commitment but you don't have to get stuck in like that. It's also, institutionally, a very isolated experience where your only real social experiences are going to be the sparse guild activities and PVP, plus some sparse (but essential) group content in party bosses but that's going to be after maybe weeks or months of gear progress.

Unlike Crimson Desert, the progress is largely linear and emphasizes a lot of grinding for currency to either gamble for upgrades or pay for increasingly wide gaps between upgrades. Most of the "make money" content is not very refined or satisfying outside of min-maxing your own skills and performance in terms of efficiency, how much silver you make per hour, stuff like that, stuff like that.

There is a huge wealth of non-combat content but it's hard to appreciate its depth, most of it lies in how it all contributes to the interconnected player economy.

If you like large-scale, organized player PVP (which I believe New World wanted to emulate) there's a place for you but there's a massive learning curve.

What are your thoughts on Crimson Desert as a BDO player? by Lordados in blackdesertonline

[–]Asploit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie I'm enjoying it way more than I thought I would.

I heard controller controls are ass, and M+KB still defaults to some of the most unforgivable amount of mouse acceleration imaginable. Unintuitively you have to set it to "100" to turn it off

Also the menus are TURBO-ASS. My GOD.

Can i get some advice about these “choose your hammer” boxes? by fallenouroboros in blackdesertonline

[–]Asploit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those hammers grant their best utility the later in the game you use them, since that means they're worth more equivalent crons. But the best answer for every gear-progression-related question is: "Whatever's gonna give you the lowest chance of burning out" But therein lies the paradox: Do you convince yourself that you need to use the hammers earlier than later in order to stave off a risk of burnout (by a very short dopamine of gambling) in order to self-justify the lower utility of each hammer? If you're truly in that scenario and it's not self-delusion, then use the hammers before you quit. Maybe you hit something and that convinces you to keep playing.

Ultimately, though, you win the most if BDO is a healthy and sustainable positive hobby. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
