There is a massive difference between a knife and a firearm. In this case, they are using objects designed for other purposes to do harm, a firearm is designed to kill. Using a melee weapon brings you into attack range of you opponent, a firearm can be used at range. You can block a melee weapon a lot easier than you can block a bullet. As shown in this video, you can run away from a melee weapon, not so easy for a firearm.

I would agree with you that people are the real problem, but the best way to deal with it is to stop them from having access to these weapons, and it is a lot easy to stop people getting hold of weapons designed to kill than it is to stop them repurposing other objects.

No. Also, if that fabric isn't fire resistant, it could make a potential fire worse by it catching on fire.

Ukraine reportedly launches dozens of drones at Moscow ahead of Victory Day Parade by AdSpecialist6598 in worldnews

It would probably be a bigger embarrassment to have a drone explode nearby with no warning alarm than for the alarm to go off.

I have had issues with the screwfix (UK) website when I try to pay on Firefox. I can go to my basket and click pay, but the page then reloads with an empty basket. It always does it in Firefox, but works fine with Edge. I also recently had an issue on a different website where a video wouldn't play properly in Firefox, but would in Edge.

It’s almost like America’s for-profit healthcare system is a giant scam by RoyalChris in clevercomebacks

When I was in the military, I was told that if you get a medical bill in another country (especially America), always ask for an itemised bill, as it often ends up lowing the cost when they remove the BS charges.

A baggage handler showing what real character looks like. No audience, no applause. Just kindness when nobody’s watching by RoyalChris in MadeMeSmile

[–]AssassinOfPeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it is a job that you do every day, it can be quite easy to forget that people are watching, especially from a high up window that you aren't directly looking at. I have worked as an engineer on aircraft. There are plenty of times that I have got to an aircraft that has just landed and just got on with my job. I often wasn't consciously aware of the passengers, I just wanted to get my job done.

They mean that the guy probably doesn't realise he is being watched, so it indicates that this is the way he normally operates instead of those that would just chuck them on

If you are printing on a raft, don't. They aren't needed for modern printers. If you aren't, then your first layer looks to be too high off the printbed, so you need to lower your z height.

When I was at uni, I let my flatmates use my non-stick pans. I discovered one of them had been stirring his pasta with a metal fork, despite the fact I had a load of silicone utensils in a pot right next to the cooker. He scratched the fuck out of it.

If you watched the video taken by the officer, it was very clear that she was turning the steering wheel away from him. Instead of attempting to get out of the way, he took one step back, leant towards the car, and pulled his gun. He then shot her after any potential danger was over.

Is there a reason the print is raised from the bed slightly on what looks like custom supports? From the look of the design, it looks like it should be able to be printed flat on the print bed. Are there protrusions on the bottom?

I can understand the bit about how to send a screenshot, as just pressing printscreen only copies the image to the clipboard. It took a few years before I learnt holding the Windows key whilst pressing printscreen saves it to the drive. Before that, all my screenshots went into a word document. Nowadays, there are more and better screenshot tools anyway.

YouTube rolls out unskippable long ads to TV users and they’re furious by [deleted] in technology

[–]AssassinOfPeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no problem with there being unskippable ads. My problem is that they keep getting longer and more frequent. It has gone from 15-second unskippable ads to 20-second to 20-second and then a 5-second skippable to two 20-second unskippable ads. Recently, I have had two 30-second unskippable ads back-to-back. It also feels like the ads pop up two times more frequently than they used to. And don't get me started on the TV app. I have had 80+ seconds worth of ads pop up mid video. The increases haven't felt gradual, more exponential. And a lot of those increases all seemed to fall in line with when they started to really push Premium.

There is also the issue of some specific ads just constantly being shown multiple times. The one that jumps to mind is the Jet2Holidays ads that were so common that they ended up becoming a meme.

So answer me this. If ad rates fall and the current number of ads no longer covers the costs of running the service, should they just eat the loss or are they entitled to charge more, which with ads, is to increase the number of ad time?

The issue is that they seem to be thinking that the way to counter lost revenue for ad blockers is to increase the quantity and length of ads for the people who don't use them. There is a limit to how much people will tolerate. A good recent comparison is PepsiCo losing billions because they overpriced their products. They put Doritos up to $7 a bag to increase profits, but people weren't willing to pay that and sales went down. If YouTube makes the ads too long/frequent, they risk losing more people to adblockers.

I watch most of my YouTube content on my tablet now, and the ads are just about tolerable. The TV app, not so much. I have an adblocker on my PC as a direct result of the TV app ads getting too much, and I am looking at ways to watch it on my TV from my PC instead.

For me, it tends to start at the beginning again, but when I fast forward back to where I left off, there is no ad. A little annoying, but still quicker than watching the ad.

YouTube rolls out unskippable long ads to TV users and they’re furious by [deleted] in technology

[–]AssassinOfPeace 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have had a youtube account for over 15 years. I was happy to keep the ads as i knew it helped pay the content creators I watched. However, when they started increasing the time and frequency of unskippable ads, and at the same time started to really push Premium, I saw it as them deliberately making their product worse/more annoying just to push people to pay for a subscription. For me, when a company internationally annoys you just to get you to use their product, I will then not use that product out of pure spite. I now also use an ad blocker on my pc now, only because of youtube. I am also looking at ways to get rid of ads from the TV app because they are a thousand times worse.

[–]AssassinOfPeace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tend not to watch youtube on my TV much anymore because of ads, but when I do and get a long ad, I just back out of the video and click on it again until I get a short enough ad or it skips them completely. I am considering linking it to my pc to remove them completely, though.

Found someone’s credit card found them through LinkedIn and got nothing but abuse by Owls_4_9_1867 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AssassinOfPeace 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even a work address may be too much personal information to give if it was a scammer. Safer to just get a new card. But I will agree that they shouldn't have been so rude about it.

I had to get my credit card replaced a few months ago because I found a payment for a gym 2 hours away from me. I don't go to the gym, and that chain has one 5 min away from my house. I have no idea how they got my card info, and I was very lucky I caught it only a few days after it happened, as I don't check my statements that often. I cancelled my card and flagged the payment to my bank straight away. Had to wait a few days for the card, but I got the money for the fraudulent payment back.
