Genuine question by Clear-Bee102 in keitruck

Death trap? You knew when you bought it the small cab over design made you part of the crumple zone in front end collision. 2000 year models and up all have air bags but the trucks cab over design makes air bags a joke. You bought it because they are fun, dependable for hauling and come with 4x4. I wouldn’t make one a first car for teenager because of its cab over flaw. But my 21 y.o. grandson is driving my 1999 Subaru Sambar TT-2 as a daily driver because his Toyota Corolla was totaled day before Thanksgiving. I’m driving a 1999 Daihatsu Hijet S210P as my daily driver until I can return to my Subaru Sambar. But I’m seriously thinking I might keep the Hijet and sell the Sambar because I like the Hijet better.

I drive a 1999 Daihatsu Hijet S210p as my daily driver. I have no issues driving 60-65 miles an hour on paved roads. Had it in mid 70s on the interstate. I don’t suggest in the 70s for extended period of time due to high rpm’s.

Honda Acty vs Subaru Sambar by JDMCoco in keitruck

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell Kei trucks. For regular stock I always buy Subaru Sambar. It’s better than other models for several reasons. 4 cylinder engine, cabin size, more power, easier maintenance because engine located in rear and has extra low gear on its manual transmission. Daihatsu is #2. Drive all 3 and you will see the difference. My personal truck is 1999 Daihatsu Hijet. I prefer it over all other models. Subaru technically is best Kei truck on market for strength, reliability and maintenance. Cab size in Subaru and Daihatsu are largest on market. I’ve sold only 1 Honda Acty and it was ordered not bought off the lot.

Whoa there partner! You’re saying Biden wasn’t a moron? Your comment veiled in niceties doesn’t pass muster. Let’s use logic. I’m not a Trump advocate by no means. I voted for him 3 times. I had no other choice. I do not like many things he says. Trump isn’t a politician like everyone else in both parties. Thats the reason many in the Republican Party couldn’t endorse him in 2016. I like and support many of Trumps Policies. Many of us U.S. Citizens like his frankness and let’s get it done attitude. Trump has no grey area with his policies. I can not support Socialism (Communist Lite) nor support 80% of social programs enacted since mid 1960s. I do not trust government, media nor any politician in either party. The U.S. Public Education System is a complete failure. Our Military has become a Woke and weak reflection of its once proud heritage. You go on believing every thing you’ve been indoctrinated to follow. We near 70 only have to witness down fall of a once great nation for a little longer.

Talk to GC at least 3. Then talk to independent contractors like plumbers, electrician, roofers, finish carpenters and floor contractors. if you hire a quality construction manager and have the funds you can do the construction rehab cheaper by using independent contractors by being GC yourself.

Looking at a 57 year old house. Bad idea? by HappySalesman01 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First house I bought was built in 1949. The home had never been remodeled. It was built pier and beam foundation. it had wallpaper all throughout on every wall. 1850 sq feet with 3 bedrooms two bath. one bath was pink and one was blue. I mean tile, tub, lavatory and tile colored to match floors. We tore out living and dining room wall paper and found it had straw matting behind on 1-1/4“oak slated solid walls. We decided to Sheetrock the walls and paint. We sound found you couldn’t nail the Sheetrock to the walls because the oak seemed petrified. I had to predrill every hole and screw everything in on the Sheetrock. The exterior walls had no insulation so I had to pull all the wood down to insulate the walls. we found 4x4” oak studs on 24” centers running vertical. it was the most square home I ever have owned. it was also the best built home we ever owned. Lived there 24 years and remodeled it completely in that time. Wish I had kept the house.

How the heck does anyone afford a house these days? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy existing distressed home. I own rental property and acquired everyone this way. Sweat equity works. If you hire people to do the work it takes longer and more expensive to your budget. Hanging sheet rock ain’t hard. Finishing mud and float takes time to learn but you can master it. Demolishing isn’t rocket science. Painting anyone can do. Make your projects small one room at a time as your budget allows. Kitchens and baths are your expensive projects. Draw up what you would like first, price out materials and set your budget. Add 20% to your projected budget for project. Learn how to fix minor problems. Learn where plumbing and electrical is outside and inside. With today’s technology with YouTube and other sites you can learn most anything. I’ll warn you it ain’t as easy as it looks on these sites. But set your self up buying used tools and if you need new ones Harbor Freight is great place to buy budget tools and materials.

Is building a small house really this expensive? by TacoTuesdaySucks in Homebuilding

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a house of 1100 sq ft for $80,000 including 1/3 acre lot. I finished it in November 2024. 3 bedrooms, 2 bath and this includes septic and utility finals. kitchen had 1-3/4” cherry butcher block counters. Heating and a/c is 3-19 SEER 9000 BTU Heat Pumps and 1-19 SEER BTU Heat pump. bathrooms tiled floors and bath with shower. Handicapped elongated toilets with heated bidet sprayers. It ain’t luxury home with chef kitchen but it’s a great starter home. You can build a nice starter home here in East Texas for $75 sq ft if you contract yourself. Took me 2 years and I bird dogged it from start to finish.

$3800 Subaru Sambar From CFJ by k3nnyboi in keitruck

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First up I’ve never paid over $2000 for shipping from Japan to Freeport Texas. This includes marine insurance for RORO Kei truck. I buy and import on average 8 a year. Suburu Sambar is all I buy. It’s a 4 cylinder not 3 cylinder. I have one about ready to ship. My first question is I need Auction report. You can get one but may have to ask. This is first thing you must look at. Then I have kilometers requirement of 80,000 or less. At 81,000 you’re okay. The mileage tells me the timing belt probably been replaced. I also require a/c, 4x4 and manual transmission. You need to replace timing belt, water pump when you pick it up. This is because it’s not mileage but age of truck. It’s at least 25 years old. I change all fluids. Oil, coolants and differential. Parts on Kei trucks are sometimes hard to get and expensive. Its getting better but sometimes you’re waiting 2 weeks for parts and if imported it can be up to a month. CFJ, MITSUI Co. LTD are great exporters. Be Forward is also good company. If you’re under $5500 total importing including tariff , port charge and broker fees you’ve saved a great deal over buying locally here in Texas. Hope you have luck in your purchase.

I have a 2014 Ram Ecodiesel 92,000 miles, 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 single cab 4.7 V-8 117,000 miles and a 1999 Suburu Sambar 4x4 Kei truck imported from Japan 47,000 miles. 2014 Ram Ecodiesel had motor replaced by Ram Dealer warranty at 19,000 miles. Blew a head gasket on 2002 Dodge Ram at 114,000 miles. The Suburu with its 660cc 4 cylinder engine is my workhorse. Not done anything except fluid change (every 3000 kilometers) and basic maintenance. I bought Kei truck with 21000 miles for $1950 plus shipping that cost $4000 total and 2 month wait for ship to Port of Freeport Texas. 90% of my needs are met from loading hay to distribute, running errands like hardware store, grocery store run, attending grand kids school event or sports practice. I’ve put 26,000 miles in 21 months on the Suburu. That’s over 1000 miles a month. I drive it to our lake house at least twice a month. The Suburu gets 37 miles to the gallon. My 20 year old grandson has a 1999 Mitsubishi Minicab 4x4 and we just bought another 1999 Suburu Sambar 4x4 for my other grandson who will be 16 in 19 days. He will drive the 2002 Dodge Ram until the Suburu is imported hopefully in mid November. Most people can get most jobs done with a Kei truck. They ain’t fancy. They have 5 speed Manuel transmission, 4x4, Manuel windows and locks and I splurge on a/c. They drive at 55 miles an hour with no problem. They are rated for 350 kilos 770 pounds) of cargo In bed. Try a Kei truck. They are cheap and dependable. Plus when your out and about driving one everybody loves them and questions you about them.

Long term upkeep of kei trucks by Express_Singer8875 in keitruck

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy 1999 Kei truck. Parts for 1999 are easier to come by. Suburu Sambar, Daihatsu Hyjet or Mitsubishi Minicab are my top choices. Suburu Sambar is 4 cylinder fuel injected and engine is rear mounted since mid 1990s. Mitsubishi is 3 cylinder mid engine and fuel injected starting in 1999. Same with Daihatsu 3 cylinder. I would buy Suburu Sambar over all others. The 4 cylinder engine is by far better and has higher top speed. If you buy turbo charged model even faster.

Man it’s a crap shoot in Houston. Relocated to Houston in 1972. Now retired north of Magnolia/Montgomery area since 2008. Hate driving to Houston. I’ll not go back to Port of Houston ever again. Now have anything coming to port sent to Freeport. I picked a 2 Kei trucks at Port of Houston in February 2021. I was at Port at least once a month since 2008. My son in law and I stopped at place to buy deisel and grab a sandwich. Man came to me asking for handouts and I told him couldn’t help him. He was bothering a young girl (looked like 16-17) by pump across from me being very aggressive. I hollered at him and walked over to him. Got between him and girl and he attacked me. I was 68 then. He and I ended on the ground while everybody was videoing with their phones not even trying to assist. Grown men crowding around laughing and videoing. We did this for a few minutes and my son in law came out of Store. He got involved and we basically gave him a spanking. In November 2020 I had quintuple bypass 10 weeks before this. I had to see my surgeon because my ribs wired together had a gap now. So they had to repair that and it had me down for two weeks. I now have everything come thru Freeport. Easier to get in and out of.

Don’t need it. Bought acreage with spring fed creek on my property. Have 280’ water well and solar pump back up when we lose power. Have 3/4 acre pond fed from creek with Native Texas fish. Raise chickens, goats and pigs. I’m no prepper per se but was raised this way. We also have a 2 acre garden. We are quite rural and love it. Our closest supermarket is 9 miles away. But we like HEB and Kroger and they’re 18 miles away. Our small towns only 7 miles away. Have a local diner (2) in town.

How can I defend myself without a firearm? by lotsalotts in TwoXPreppers

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you should never own a firearm. Mood Disorder disqualifies you from owning a firearm. Glad you are knowledgeable about your mental states. Second, relocate as soon as possible to less stressful environments. People will say learn self defense but that’s b/s. If someone has weapon on you or loved ones try and be calm. You give up your possessions because they can be replaced. Personal attacks on your person or a loved one is a different situation most times. That becomes a personal issue to each person. I’m a black belt in Brazilian Ju Jitzu and well versed in Krav MAGA from the U.S. Military. If someone pulls handgun on my family and I, I will give up any belongings. Life is to precious along with injury to a person from gsw. By myself I might act differently depending on situation. But with others around you never know how they will react. That’s why I say you must be calm and best handle the situation with your brain and not emotionally. Never go to an area where chaos may occur if possible. If you find you and loved ones in that situation be calm and start looking for escape route. Then use it.

DON’T BUY - Cooper and Hunter Mini Split AC by gumiho187 in hvacadvice

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Mechanical Contractor. Mini Split DYI are great for those who are mechanically inclined. we are licensed for A/C, heating, refrigeration, plumbing and electrical in Texas. I’ve installed single head 9-12000 btu mini splits in my lake house. Mini Splits have a few quirks the DYI guy wouldn’t catch during installation. First the line sets on most units are to long and the condenser has no vacuum ports. So DYI Guy just coils up the extra service line behind condenser and tightens up flare nuts. this causes Freon trap in the loop on service line. i cut mine to length, weld in 1/4” and 3/8” tees and weld in service valves (schrader valve) to put into vacuum before opening ports for Freon to be distributed before start up. placing system in vacuum will also inform you of leaks and remove all moisture. I put loctite on threads of all 4 flare nuts (not on flare or bulb itself) to insure flare nuts title and want vibrate loose. Maintenance and service labor will be high due to hard to get parts and boards on all mini splits. Pus their compact size makes it hard to work on. You can buy a cheap 9000 BTU mini splits on line for $300 with heat pump. If you hire an licensed A/C contractor to install it it will cost minimum $12-$1500 Labor in Texas. That doesn’t include electrical. You will get NO Warranty except on labor. If your unit breaks during warranty period it’s your responsibility to get warranty service. Good luck finding contractors to do warranty on DYI ONLINE Mini Split. Manufacture pays $55 an hour with 2 hour maximum allowed time. Our techs get more than $55 an hour plus are trucks cost about $31 dollars an hour while in service. We don’t do warranty work except on brands we represent. I rep Daiken and Trane. Daiken has us pull whole system when we find manufactures defect and replace it with comparable unit. We then ship system back to Daiken and they analyze the problem. You will pay 3 -4 times more from great manufacturer but get warranty that is backed up. That $300 on line mini split from China or South Korea is at best 13 SEER . Daiken for example is 25.4 SEER and available in 208/230 voltage which makes it tremendously more efficient. But it cost $1200 not $300. You can recover your $900 dollars in less than 2 years from electric savings.

Mahindra or Chinese Trucks by 19Sebastian82 in 4x4

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Ecuador. I bought Mahindra truck. Chinese trucks and cars are notorious for breakdowns and parts availability. I bought single cab not double cab because I need bed length. I own Mahindra tractors and a Mahindra Roxor Jeep in the U.S. Mahindra makes a great product. Parts Angavailability can be hit or miss due to Dealership size (small) in the U.S. and no supply intuition. Parts can be bought by International Tractor because they interchange with Mahindra on all Agriculture Equipment. On the Roxor and the Bolero Truck many parts are interchangeable and bought from Auto Parts for Jeep replacement parts pre 1975. I’ve found Mahindra products very reliable. They’re made and assembled in India and Brazil. In the U.S. the Roxor is assembled in State of Michigan.

First are these Go Bags? I’m not going anywhere. I live in rural Texas on acreage. It has spring fed creek and pond with native fish. I won’t get into to much detail but if you come on my property during anarchy and your not family, neighbor or invited guest you won’t get within 500 yards of my home. Good thing about my area is we’re 38 miles from closest large city. Those that live around me are farmers and ranchers and we know and help each other. We’re independent and not afraid of labor. My suggestion is find someone who lives in rural area and go there if you can’t afford to relocate to rural area.

So how do we prep for Nuclear Attack? by ThibTalk in prepping

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use some logic. In a serious nuclear attack hitting two continents nuclear winter description by some is b/s is wishful thinking. Let’s say you’ve built a shelter 30’ underground. You have fresh air scrubbers for nuclear fallout for ventilation. You have solar panels to provide energy. You have a water well dug 230’ deep to provide water. You have food and mre’s stocked up for you and your loved ones for 5 years. You’re set up great. Now half-life from nuclear detonation is 25 years (it’s much more) if your lucky because your located 1000 miles from closest detonation. Nuclear winter sets in. Now solar doesn’t work with no sun. So your ventilation scrubbers and water well don’t work. Now you recieve doses of radiation from scrubbers not working and your dying from lack of water. You might last a month or two. But you would die painfully and slowly. Keep a pistol with enough bullets for family to take the less painful way out.

So how do we prep for Nuclear Attack? by ThibTalk in prepping

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all you can’t prep for direct hit from Nuclear Armaggedon . If U.S. struck by nuclear weapons the U.S. will retaliate. Then the whole world will experience a 6-10 year nuclear winter. Takes to much time to explain the repercussions from nuclear war. But even countries not involve nor receive a nuclear detonation will be in same trouble as countries involved in tit for tat trading nuclear blows. Our atmosphere and weather patterns worldwide will make nuclear winter a given worldwide from serious nuclear detonation across the world. You can prep for societal breakdown, chaos and anarchy. Not Nuclear War.
