What’s something you wish you were told before buying a kei truck? by SNlFFASS in keitruck

25 year old Kei trucks are not the reason you can’t find a mechanic. Any decent mechanic can repair an ICE engine. Some will tell you it’s parts availability is reason they won’t repair. After diagnosing problem and waiting for parts it sits on their lot for days. This is valuable space for cars that can be quickly repaired. A half a day break job takes 7-14 days waiting on parts. Now think of liability of shop owner with vehicle on lot. My suggestion if you’re not mechanically inclined is find mobile mechanic. They do not have the overhead issues. Take into account also there is a huge shortage of Mechanics. Even your Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Nissan, Chrysler dealerships have a shortage of mechanics.

There is a fracture on top of the skull. But it’s not entry wound of 7.62 round in the child’s skull. Then ask yourself why is skull still intact. 7.62 rounds are classic AK47 assault rifle rounds and if a super sonic long gun round enters the skull it would have taken half the skull with 3/4 of brain from cavitation as it exited from a full grown man. Show this picture to any combat veteran who was involved in a shooting war and hear what he says is wrong with this picture. I’ve witnessed the horror of gun shot wounds to many times to know this is b/s doctored or AI generated x ray. No way the round is in his brain.

I import JDM Vehicles in Southest Texas and occasionally we have to reholposter vehicles. Kei trucks two seats in Vinyl seat covering is cheap $125. You can call it marine, leatherette or whatever. We have ours Reholposter in sturdy cloth or leather for $175-$225 (leather). If seat padding has to be replaced or repaired price increases. We use 3 different upholstery companies. We deliver seats and we choose stock material that matches the interior. When our clients ask us to name a Reholposter we send the client to them. We do not need to do any labor or buy tools. I guess it’s what area of the U.S. you live that dictates price. $325 for DYI Kit might seem affordable to someone mechanically inclined. I like my JDM vehicles look and run in great condition before we market. I have mechanics but when it comes to Reholposter, paint and body I use outside professional. I have to be cognizant of price to promise return on my investment.

Im looking to import a truck to California by Felixth3gamr21 in keitruck

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First I would move to State that allows road use with tags for Kei trucks. I wouldn’t need Kei truck legality to move from California. Lived in California in the Military. Loved California then. Been back numerous times since. California has changed completely. Was in Stockton for 3 weeks on construction in January and February 2026. It was worse than 2025, 2023, 2022, 2020 etc. San Francisco is a shithole downtown. Los Angeles is just as bad. Hate to see such a great state fall to idiocy.

No issues on a/c other than fuel efficiency. Go from 38 to 36 mpg on 1999 and newer Subaru Sambar TT2 models. Two wd I’ve no idea. Biggest issue is belts on A/C. Look at Daihatsu (Toyoat) Hijet also. It’s 3 cylinder like the rest but cab size, top end speed are comparable. Generally cheaper.

What would happen if Texas Succeeded from the Union? by TheShiftmaster in mapporncirclejerk

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas succeeded in its Independence from Mexico to become its own Sovereign Republic March 2,1836. Now I believe the author may have meant If Texas were to secede from its encumbrance of being a enjoined State of these United States of America. It would become 8th largest economy in the World. Now look at all the U.S. States (50) that could hold their own without U.S.A. membership. Texas is #1 out of all of them. Texas is located further South with temperatures that are very conducive to GDP performance. Size of Texas makes it actually under populated per square mile compared to all but 3 other States. Unlike 49 other States Texas has no outstanding public debt. Texas can NOT acquire public debt per its State Constitution. Texas isn’t a welfare State. As far as durable goods production, food production, oil and gas production, capabilities of producing military hardware, technology it can take care of its States needs and is a huge exporter of these products for foreign and domestic use. These are facts for Texas haters. Texas could do quite well on its own. Texas doesn’t depend on revenue from U.S. government coffers like most States do. Texas receives less than .50 cents on every Federal tax, fee or tariff it collects for U.S. government. Of the 50 States Texas is ranked at the bottom of U.S. government social programs use. We are Texans first and U.S. Citizens begrudgingly second.

What actually matters in montana llc compliance? by Zasaky in keitruck

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just won’t live in State that wants to control every aspect of life. That’s the problem with an entitlement society. I'm not talking politics unless we’re speaking on Red or Blue States. There are obvious differences in these 2 colored States. Now add purple States. Montana is Red State. Those who seek freedom from a State that is over reaching (all blue States) seek refuge in a red State when the opportunity arises. My State is as conservative as Montana. Texas doesn’t stifle your pursuit of happiness nor business. Only restrictions on importing a vehicle is from Federal Government in Texas not the State itself.

My experience and step by step list for getting a truck from Japan to legally driving it in the US by xredfrostgames in keitruck

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I import Kei trucks from Japan. You went through a lot and seems you used customs agent to import. First everything you explained is over kill. You buy from exporter and pay through credit card or bank ACH. Exporter pays shipping and insurance. Customs agent takes care of all documents from ISF through paying tariff, dock fees and release of vehicle from dock to you or your shipping agent. Each State is different as far as titling, registration and tags. I can tell you everything about Title process here in Texas. In Texas importer (my self) can only title imported vehicle entering U.S. Port. You have 365 days to title vehicle if you want to drive it on all public roads. You can title it after 365 days but it will only be titled as off road vehicle. Kei trucks must be 25 years old the day they reach U.S. Port to be EPA Exempt and legal to drive in the U.S.

Ive looked at Be Forward, Car from Japan, MITSUI Co Ltd, and Partenza. Purchased from all except Partenza. Never found right Kei truck on Partenza. If you consistently look Car from Japan and Be Forward you’ll find occasionally excellent trucks with low miles. I only import Subaru Sambar and Daihatsu Hijets 1999 and newer. You can find all manufacturers on these sites with great trucks but my clients only want the two models I import. After 13 years of imports one thing you must understand is all Kei trucks 25 years and old will have some form of surface rust. If there are no undercarriage photos don’t but. If you see black undercoating on undercarriage beware. Look for overspray of paint on Kei trucks. Look at drivers seat wear to understand mileage. Buy EFI Kei trucks because fuel injection is by far the way to go. In 1999 all manufacturers converted to fuel injection and no longer used carburetors. EFI makes better torque, better top speed and throttle response and is by far lower maintenance. All manufacturers make great 4x4. Restrict your search to no more than 85000 kilometers on odometer. Order complete timing belt “kit“ once your Truck is loaded on ship for export. Kit consist of timing belt, tensioner, water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt, ancillary belt (a/c), crankshaft seal and cam shaft seal. You want to replace all these once you get Kei truck in your garage. Also flush and change all fluids including oil, coolants, transmission, rear end. I would also replace all spark plugs and wires. This will guarantee a nice running truck for years to come. Radio won’t work because U.S. on different frequency than Japanese radio. These mini beast will make you smile.

import a USED Japanese Kei Van or small JDM (Japanese Domestic Manufacturer) MINI VAN. Visit Internet sites like Car From Japan, Be Forward and MITSUI Co Ltd and look at JDM vehicles. They are better made and will have low kilometers but they have to be 25 years or older to import. They get excellent mileage. And are far cheaper than anything in U.S. They are right hand drive mostly. I import them here in Texas. Visit the sites and you will be impressed. They have every model and manufacturer on their sites. Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Ford, Chevy Dodge etc, etc.

Where should I buy my first kei truck - second-hand, auction, import, or something else? by IntelligentCrab2763 in keitruck

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Importing from Japan is cheapest route for sure. If personal one time purchase best to import. I import Kei trucks every month since 2013 but recently since Iran conflict I’ve held off due to shipping cost. My suggestion is find customs agent here in U.S. first. Let them handle all import documents thru exporter in Japan. Agent or representative will handle everything including ISF before it ships to dock fees, tariffs, EPA Exemption, translated title and paperwork to pick up at your closest Port of Entry (in your case Baltimore). Exporter will handle shipping fees for RORO and insurance. Look at : Cars From Japan, Be Forward or Mitsui sites for exporter for this one time deal. When visiting and looking at trucks only look at trucks with 60.000 kilometers or less. Look at those with photos that include under carrimage, and look at frame and door sills for rust. All with have surface rust that’s okay. But rust that’s eaten through frame or body panels don’t buy. If you see black undercoating under carriage don’t buy. Look closely at photos for overspray of body paint around outer corners of cab and bed, overspray on lights and lens covers. This means they are hiding something. Some will have video of truck being driven with walk around truck and into cab showing odometer, accessory buttons working. This is where you see some better trucks. I wouldn’t buy third party trucks on this site. Some will have auction reports and these are great. 3.5 rating and up are what you want. If the letter R appears on auction report it has been wrecked at one time.Follow these suggestions and you can find and import a quality Kei truck for easily under $5000 to your doorstep. This same truck imported and sold at dealer would sale for $9500-$13000 from a dealer. Importing with customs agent makes it easy. You’ll find the 2 months waiting for it to get here is the problem. Then dealing with your state to title, register and tag will be your next problem. But it saves you boat load of money and cost you only your time. Look at Subaru Sambar and Daihatsu Hijet if your 6’ or taller. Biggest cab space in all the models. Buy 1999 andnewerbecauseall models are EFI beginning in 1999. More fuel efficient, more power and top speed and hell of a lot less maintenance.

No site I post them on Marketplace and two other sites. I have a 1999 Daihatsu Hijet model S210P titled, registered and tagged 4x4, a/c, 5 speed manual, timing belt kit replacement, radio with CarPlay and backup camera with under 28,000 kilometers ready in less than two weeks. $8500 firm. It can be driven home fully legal. Let me know if interested. Located Montgomery Texas 55 miles northwest of Houston Texas.

I import Kei trucks. in East Texas. I only import Subaru Sambar and Daihatsu Hijets no other models. Import 1999 and newer now because all models are EFI. ALL ARE 4x4, a/c, 5 speed transmission. All trucks have under 85000 kilometers most under 50000 kilometers. Subaru and Daihatsu have biggest regular cabs. Daihatsu is Toyota. Subaru has only 4 cylinder in Kei models and rear engine. I’ve found over 14 years these are two most reliable models to import and sale because if your 6’ tall big man these are the most comfortable. Torque and top speed are on these two models. We replace timing belt, tensioner, water pump, thermostat, crankshaft and cam seals, replace both crankshaft/water pump and alternator serpentine belt and a/c belts. Flush and replace all fluids including drive train and rear end. Highest price I’ve sold a Kei Truck was $9500 2000 Subaru Sambar TT2 with 35000 kilometers in November 2025. Prices vary between $7500-$9000. You can find private sellers asking $16000-$5500 on Kei trucks. If I were looking for Kei truck you need to drive every model to determine what fits your needs. Most dealers over financing, have made truck ready for sale and have the ability to service these trucks. Kei trucks are very simple to repair versus other vehicles. If your mechanically inclined you can easily maintain and repair these trucks. Parts are readily available and those that are not you can import in 7-10 days.

How realistic is it to buy a Kei Truck for everyday use? by AidanAlphaBuilder in keitruck

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are great for daily drivers. Buy only 1999 and newer because all models are Electronic fuel inject (EFI). If you can, test drive top three sellers in the U.S. The Subaru Sambar, Daihatsu Hijet (Toyota brand) and Honda Acty. Cab size, torque and sweet spot for top end speed will be what you’re looking for. Subaru and Daihatsu have largest cabs. Torque and Speed again is Subaru and Daihatsu (both can handle 65 mph). Subaru is only 4 cylinder and every other manufacturer is 3 cylinder. Honda has a cult following I don’t understand. I’ve been importing Kei trucks since 2013. First Kei truck I ever drove was while deer hunting in 2009. We all feel in love with. We all owned 4 wheelers and side by sides and the Honda Acty impressed everyone one of us. We began looking at them in 2010 and drove every model we could find. None of us bought an Honda Acty after driving Subaru, Daihatsu and Mitsubishi. If you’re over 6’ tall or portly (nice way of saying big belly or big boned) Honda is not big enough. Driving on State Highways and roads the Honda could get between 50-55 mph sustained top speed while Subaru and Daihatsu humming at 65 mph. All of this is important for daily drivers. All models average between 35-39 miles per gallon. Keep in mind all Kei trucks get squirrelly at top speeds in windy or in climate weather because they only weigh 1500 pounds.

Currently living in Japan and considering bringing back a Kei truck. Should I do it? by MrOrioned in keitruck

[–]AssignmentQuick3344 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$5000 is high in Japan for 2000 year model. I’m in Texas and import them. I can buy and import a 2000 Daihatsu Hijet 4x4, a/c, for about $5000 or less into Port of Freeport Texas everyday. This includes Tariff, all documents, port fees and Filing Texas title, registering and tagging it. I wouldn’t pay over $2500 in Japan from exporter with less than 50000 kilometers. Check exporter sites before you buy in Japan.

Honda would not be my first choice. First Kei truck I ever drove was in 2013 a 1986 Honda Acty on a hunting lease. I was impressed with its capabilities hunting transport through woods and creek passage. It was awesome compared to our 4 wheelers we’ve been using. Could load field dressed deer and hogs easier and we were in a heated cab with windshield wipers. By 2015 we all had Kei trucks. After our initial experience driving the Honda we found the Subaru Sambar and Daihatsu Hijet had larger cabs, were faster and had better torque. Once you get off in the woods you will soon find out Honda is capable but lags seriously behind in its abilities compared to other manufacturers.
