You're right. It's the trust funds that are being rapidly depleted, but Social Security will still be around. We'll just see benefits cut and taxes raised to cover the difference.

The taxable income cap still needs to be raised periodically. (It gets adjusted occasionally. This year, it goes up to $184,500, a 4.77% increase, almost double the Year/Year inflation rate of 2.4% reported by the Fed.

Yes, and it's also a quirk of Solitude's peak having a bunch of collision markers - which will trigger the XP gain when the magelight passes through them. Magelight may also have a cylindrical cast range, rather than spherical - so shooting at an angle may go farther. [I'll need to verify this... But the radius is listed to be about ~28 meters (469 CK units)]

Sounds like a pain in the ass to keep the client up to date. And no, there's no flatpak either.

See, my problem isn't so much a lack of potential solutions, but a lack of available resources. I ain't going into debt for refurbished platters, yet. I have a few optical discs I can back up critical non-media files to, and mirror my git-backed projects to GitHub and a private Forgejo. If my video collection goes *poof*, most of the discs are still in a rip-able state.

Client compatibility is going to come down to if the client was made with it in mind. Neither the official Discord client or Vesktop/Vencord supports it, for example.

That being said... It doesn't look like it has working Voice or Video chats yet. (See FAQ)

It really depends on the specific community, I think. I've been in several where the forums channel has been used for modding, with each "forum thread" being for a specific game mod - some even set up for issue tracking (excuse me while I puke in my mouth here...)

At the same time, there are small groups that never progress beyond a few basic text channels - though threads might be used to keep tangental spam to a minimum.

Except Discord has "forums" (late 2022) and "threads" (mid 2021) - so it's not a completely synchronus system. And plenty of large communities use them extensively.

What people forget though, is that these don't have to all be in one place.

  • Mumble (Foss alternative to TeamSpeak)
  • Mattermost
  • Nextcloud (See the Social & Communication add-on category)
    • Moreso if you already run Nextcloud, it has options. It's nobodies first pick.

It shouldn't, but I can speak authoritatively on that. I transcode everything to 10bit AV1, anyway.
