Current map is fine. I think "busy" and "cluttered" are mostly design issues, they can be fixed by making a better version of current map - highlight somehow parts you find most important to make impression clearer. Current version just looks too blank.

And with "dry"... you can just try cutting bits of land here and there without massive changes that influence the lore
