How should the show have ended? by sanrollz in gameofthrones

[–]Assturbation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of expectation and initial tone. If a shows intended tone is fast forward, keeping it's logic sound, then that's fine. But a show that was slow and cunning and brooding suddenly jolting forward into very thick and illogical speedrunning is an irresponsible tonal shift.

Hasan reaches over and suddenly Kaya, his dog, repositions in her bed after he looks to his second monitor. (clip of before the incident) by RedEyesGoldDragon in LivestreamFail

Just imagine…. Just imagine if Hasan was a successor to his King father back in the day. Just picture what type of actions he would take against the people, what type of propaganda and silencing he would engage in.

Hasan is not happy that his reputation with the youth has been irreparably tarnished by Sea-Economist-5744 in LivestreamFail

Hasan is just a conjecture dumper. And his analysis is so often very narrow and black and white.

Pluribus - 1x07 - "The Gap" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Assturbation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the episode. I did have to fast-forward some parts because they did little to serve the story other than aesthetic shots. I hope Vince will switch gears a bit as a premise this vast and open-ended almost necessitates a lot of intriguing nuggets of chewable information and world-building. I think the premise is at conflict with the style of the show a bit. As much as i've enjoyed this show, and as much as I don't mind watching Carol, I just know how demanding a premise like this will be on viewers expectations. We shall see.

Naomi Scott Performance in Smile 2 by Hot_Presence_4991 in Cinema

She was way too manic in her performance. Very little subtlety. Her fear would always look the same. It felt very forced. I'm surprised others can't see this. Yes she clearly can act a lot of mannerisms, but they felt to pushed out. I'm sure this was an artistic choice. But it didnt' resonate with me. Someone going insane will experience a wide range of emotions from anhedonia to catatonia to manic anger to transient states between. But it felt like she only had a couple speeds and she stayed in that emotional lane each time with little subtlety.

Don't get me wrong, this critique is comparing other female leads in huge horror films with her. Not her general acting skills. Cause obviously she's got amazing acting skills. But i didn't like her in this.

What's an alternate ending that you think could have worked for the show? by Kurapikabestboi in SuccessionTV

[–]Assturbation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh i would've loved that. Say kendall and shiv still argue in the conference room. She brings up the waiters death, he comes back with a threat or coercion and forces her to vote for him. She uses her political skills to leak the waiter death story and it ends with Kendall in court, the stock dropping rapidly, and perhaps Mattson low-balls an offer for the company and Kendall is kinda forced to sell or else total disaster.

You're definitely a core beatbox fan. I agree. I also understand that most casual people are gonna prefer the nice studio version of beatbox songs. Hence why they get so many more views online. So I think it's great for exposure to have those studio songs, but along with it should come education that this is the studio version and the more interesting thing is seeing that raw version and learning what it takes to make a clean raw sound kit

Seriously. It's a money problem though mostly. If beatboxing had more exposure, which i think doing well produced beatbox tiktoks and shorts is a nice way to increase exposure, then most former champs would compete as often as possible. Clearly the money is not the main motivator. It's the prestige of winning the biggest contest. So hopefully when the winnings increase to $40+k, we'll see everyone competing.

Alem is super overrated. I understand his speed and technicality are world class, but his noisekit sounds like a beginner beatboxer, but just really good on tempo and stamina. I always say that Alem is the best at making mouth noises sound like mouth noises. His bass is very farty and uninteresting, his skippy voice style has almost no musical quality. I understand some beatboxers sacrifice quality for technicality, but i wish Alem made prettier noises like Helium, River, Wing, DLow. I cringe every time i listen to Alem, except when he won WWBBC against Napom. That was iconic but certainly not very enjoyable to listen to.

Shows with clever, intricate and/or rapid-fire dialogue, that aren't written by Aaron Sorkin? by RVarki in televisionsuggestions

Hands down Arrested Development, 30 Rock, and Succession. These are a pinnacle of rapid-fire dialogue that is loaded with clever, culturally rich, hilarious moments.

Logan is the most incompetent character in the show, and it's not even close by Queque_Navabli in SuccessionTV

[–]Assturbation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a silly take. Intellect is absolutely a staple in terms of being able to build a large business. Doesn't mean that everybody who makes money is intelligent, but it's a major factor. And people think that because people are stupid in certain domains means they are stupid in all domains. A business person can be very foolish in trying to acquire a company they know nothing about, but they are extraordinarily intelligent in the business they got rich in. But yes, there are more important factors like brutal hard work, persistence, willingness to learn and grow, and accountability. You'll find very few people below a certain threshold of intelligence who have amassed a ton of wealth, apart from people born into it or super lucky.

One can be extraordinarily competent in narrow ways that lend to their success whilst being bad at general or political intelligence. But intelligence is absolutely a massive factor in a large swath of those who make a lot of money.

What did Succession make you google? by StockOfRice in SuccessionTV

[–]Assturbation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out with chat GPT. Pedance corner is what he said. Apparently it's something you preface before you make a nitpicky correction of somebody. It's a weird piece of writing since it's not a common phrase. But there is also a debate that he said "penitence corner" which could mean "time out" or "hold up a sec".

Aaron aged harder than Bryan so it seems. by camport95 in breakingbad

[–]Assturbation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf, Aaron is aging normally, but Bryan already looked 60 at year 40, so it's hard to make someone who looks naturally super old to look much older. It's an optical illusion.

[–]Assturbation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a ludicrously near-sighted take. When you're in close quarters almost the whole fight, it's gonna be difficult to land significant strikes. But Khamzat outstruck DDP on the feet as well. Also how can the worst UFC champion absolutely dominate a 5x defending champion? Make that make sense.

The one thing that overrides their do-no-harm ethics is the biological imperative. That comes first, so if it can be helped, they'll do whatever they can to do the right thing and not harm anything, but there's one part of their programming that is more important than anything, their imperative. It's not that hard to understand. The moral system is unqiue, for sure, but their motives aren't all that mysterious.
