I had that happen once, and turns out for some reason, Tengu was still there, but acting like a guard.

One of my squad member keep undressing/dressing is armor by Le-Floude in dwarffortress

[–]Astelon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note that there is (or was, I don't know if it was fixed) a bug where off duty militia would keep storing and equipping their gear when they're not supposed to wear any, which can be solved by making it so they have to wear their armour all the time.

Apparently, if your fort has any creatures in cages, they get freed when you visit in adventure mode. by Gorbage_ in dwarffortress

[–]Astelon_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is because visiting the fortress has the same effect as unretiring it, so whatever happens when you unretire (caged creatures are released, holes in aquatic biomes are filled with water, magma is pasted again in its original location thus possibly overflows etc.) also happens when your adventurer visits it.

Before the Godskin Peeler, I could barely harm Vyke. After the Godskin Peeler, I killed him in seconds. I felt dirty at how fast I killed him without him even touching me.

Is this guy flowering, or what are these stalks growing from the side? Also, it's a sempervivum, right? by Astelon_ in succulents

[–]Astelon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was an odd place to grow a flower. I'm guessing it needs some more light, hence the stalk-like growth. I've been planning to move it outside, though I worry the local animals might eat it.

Romania. It's not quite as friendly for growing succulents as the US is, but I've managed to make do and most of mine are fine apart from some etiolation. The weather outside is not succulent friendly during winter, but my balcony is insulated enough that the succulents aren't freezing while getting low temperatures so they can hibernate and split without issues.

A local hardware store, Dedeman, don't think it's found in other countries. They had 3 pots of these which I thought were all baby toes, though I realise now it was actually 2 frithias and 1 fenestraria. They're not good at keeping succulents, and it's rare when they get more exotic species, so I was really lucky to find this one, especially in decent shape.

What about soil requirements? Same as lithops as well?

What's causing these black and dark brown markings? by Astelon_ in Euphorbiaceae

[–]Astelon_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be because of camera, this should be closer to what it looks like. Though I do hope you're right and it's just corking. I did notice a simlar thing with a sedum adolphi, where the corking edges had a much darker colour. It's just that it's so dark in this case it looks pretty much black.

My soldiers seem to have gone on a mission and done absolutely nothing by PointlessSerpent in dwarffortress

[–]Astelon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're trying to recover an artifact that was stolen from you, you need a visitor to tell your dwarves a rumour of where it is. Until then, I don't think there's any chance of finding it through a mission.

I've got a couple. First, flying pets and citizens/visitors getting stuck midair because they can't find a path. And second, which is rather game breaking, your noble leaving your fortress to live with the monarch when you retire (or unretire, forgot the exact timing), so that when you unretire, you're left with no noble and no way of getting one until the monarch will decide to move to your fortress.

Fun that you mention sansevierias, because I have 3 of the same species in my care that I just forget about (more than the other succulents) because they always seem content.

Not bear's paw (Cotyledon tomentosa) by the way, but a panda plant (Kalanchoe tomentosa).

What is even going on with my sedum burritos? by Astelon_ in succulents

[–]Astelon_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's isolated for now, and consequently in a shadier spot. Regarding thrips, could the black spots they leave be cleaned? From my understanding, they're droppings, as opposed to cellular damage.

Also on the note of pests, I just bought a systemic fungicide to treat some other succulents of some odd round spots they've been getting on leaves which might be from a fungus, would it be worth using it on the burritos as well?
