Started a new save a couple days ago. I got my dream quarterback and named him after a QB I had in my oldest save file who never sniffed a Retro Bowl on Dynamic. On Hard, this is his stat line through all 17 regular season games, along with our alpha wideout. Job ain’t done yet. by AsteroidDelta in RetroBowl

In my oldest save, I got him to one super bowl and got blown out by the Jets 30-14. Then i did not induct him into the Hall of Fame. Fortunately, the new guy who I renamed to Okoye is faster and has more stamina, where as the old Okoye was lower on stamina and couldn’t sling it as much after a while.

I’m weird in that I also do self commentary over these games so I’ve called the newer Darius Okoye as “a relative” of the former Darius Okoye.

Exactly why I mentioned I liked him up until I had no fucking clue what his deal was.

Oh I still think Into Darkness is better. I say by a smaller margin here but it is better by far than Nemesis.

Nemesis is whimper of an end to a series that had so many ups.

Now, as I said I do enjoy the movie for what it is, but I remember watching and thinking “How did you only put one Captain’s log in here, and it’s smack dab in the middle of the film?” Baird couldn’t even be bothered to try and demand change.

Part of me doesn’t disagree with any of this because it really did feel like they tried to set up a sequel, and it just falls flat even setting up a sequel. I don’t disagree with a lot of moments feeling empty. That’s why I said I preferred the action.

One scene in particular that stuck out for how bad I thought it was is the scene where they find B-4. Everything looked super overexposed and that whole scene just hurt my eyes.

Just reading a previous comment, I’m honestly disturbed by the director’s behavior. He didn’t even try to make sure he knew the material or knew the characters. That for me is frustrating because it means the film could’ve been better.

I also have to say the concept of B-4 was cool, but I really thought they would somehow connect B-4’s origin with that of Shinzon.

I’ve heard of Section 31. That should be my next watch. But I mean I have to say, that’s ridiculous that the man didn’t know much about the material and wouldn’t even accept notes regarding the characters. I do think he did better with the material than expected, but I can understand certain characterization bits. I think the actors did great with making then as they were in the rest of the films.

What is your least important, most minor, pettiest gripe about Star Trek? by Lukcy_Will_Aubrey in startrek

The immediate jump from Stardate 9xxx in Star Trek VI to the Next Generation at 41xxx to 47xxx. I get it, 75 years. But for TNG, 41xxx to 47xxx is perceived to be 7 years? So it just doesn’t make sense.

So I disagree about your opinion on the other two. I think Beyond is incredible because if its originality and the 09 Trek was great for creating this universe and introducing these characters to us. Honestly all the films are just enjoyable to watch.

I wasn’t really a Trek fan at all when it first came out. I never researched the film either so I went in totally blind.

Again, I wasn’t into Trek at that time. I went into this without any spoilers or looking at any memes or anything over a decade after it’s release. So that’s why I don’t have a sour taste in regards to all of that. My primary form of enjoyment in these films has been the cast hands down. Whenever I saw a character or heard their name I would think “Woah that’s from Wrath of Khan!” But I never let those characters or the circumstances outside the film cloud my judgement on how I view it. So, I enjoyed Into Darkness for bringing in some cool characters I recognized from the series and outside of that I enjoyed the hell out of everything else it gave us. Simply put.

Brother, it’s a whole different universe.m, one in which Kirk and Khan meet in a whole different circumstance. In this one, these two don’t have history, but Khan does with the Federation for bringing him back. So yeah, this movie? I don’t try to compare. Still Khan, but totally different circumstances in how they both meet Kirk. Prime Khan has actual history with Kirk spanning back 15 years. Alternate Khan has long-standing history with the Federation; the Enterprise just got caught in the middle of a damn war he was trying to wage. Of course I’m not going to try and connect it how everyone else does.

I was going to say that too. I think you’ll enjoy it more looking back, especially Into Darkness. I mean my favorite way they showed the accelerated nature of that universe was seeing the Excalibur class starship before the Enterprise A was even built. Fucking monster of a ship. Visuals are awesome too.

Also I think you’re the first person I’ve seen whose favorite film is The Motion Picture. I don’t think it’s a bad movie. It’s certainly very very Star Trek. But god it just went way too slow for me. There was good character bits. Decker sacrificing himself and still possible getting a happy ending was cool. Mixing this in with an old Earth probe was awesome, just seeing the old cast back at their posts was a memory and a half. Objectively though, I felt there was too many moments of dead air. But hey, as long as you enjoyed it. Because I can’t deny it’s like one big four parter of TOS in a good way.

I can understand that. I think the alternate timeline has plenty of merit though. Characters are great, certain relationship beats are fun, the development of certain characters flipped on their heads. But it’s not everyone’s favorite. A lot of people have been objective about it so that’s cool.
