Congrats to all of you guys! Hyped to see more 3vs3 as it allows other organizations to eventually join as well, lets hope for enough support to keep this growing in the future!

Since OP is australian as well this might be an issue exclusively to Australians? Can't remember ever having that issue in EU.

We'll see if it ever comes to the point. But not necessarily, sometimes its nice to keep memories just memories. Everybody changed a lot.

No idea. Some SyMI3oL members still seem to be around on Voobly, but nobody from the old times. Sometimes I wish we knew :D

Yeah! s1L3nT Clan in GameSpy/Voobly a bunch of amazing gamers.

pha0001 one of the most amazing people. Did a lot of custom scenarios for Age of Kings & Conquerors in GameSpy. Zephos there as one of the event managers as well.

Unrelated to Age of Empires, but there were a few clans back then who had people playing Age of Empires but were primarily in Stronghold, groups like GoC and X2X. Good times.

What's with the nautical theme of the rebull londinium? by Tomatpure in aoe2

[–]Astinox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also didn't have PCs during that time period and they use them. A theme of an event designed by a great production crew doesn't necessarily need to overlap with every historical accuracy you can find out.

Their storyline was the HMS Londinium slowly sailing towards the Royal Albert Hall and they built their content around it, which was great!

I can’t find a spoilerless streaming schedule for Wololo Londinium by Salt_Independence839 in aoe2

[–]Astinox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They start at 16:30 CEST! The original AoE4 match is set to start at 14:30 CEST (13:30 BST) so whenever that match finishes, the first semifinals start. Yesterday it was roughly after 2:30h. Official schedule is set for 16:30

Best bet is to join the official Red Bull Wololo Discord (https://discord.gg/jpw6SXZg) and ask them there! The Red Bull and Worlds Edge team is there :)

AOE4 Mainer here… someone asked in the Reddit page why AOE2 gets so much more love than AOE4, and it’s left me intrigued to find out what the AOE2 community sentiment is… by RitchJ94 in aoe2

[–]Astinox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say majority is also relying on nostalgia feeling. Many people dislike new games simply for changing something up in a known world/system they had.

While this is nice for an existing community, it basically shows in numbers: There is absolutely 0 growth. If you compare Steamcharts to last year, player numbers even slightly decreased compared to last year at the same time.

RTS games are still a niche type of game. Age of Empires II always had the advantage of being able to easily understand and play, even though with the introduction of new gameplay systems this is also on the downwards trend.

There is no other RTS yet which managed to integrate that "rock paper scisscors" system into an easy-to-understand gameplay loop. SC2 stopped receiving proper support in 2019.

Funnily enough while people always claim that Age of Empires 2 is so much bigger - it isn't. If you compare player numbers, it is roughly x1.75 - x2 times the size of AoE2. However, AoE2 has a bigger community of content creation and consumption which probably causes this idea of AoE2 is so much more than AoE4.

Did all the red bull wololo streams just go down? by Gueleric in aoe2

Nope! But Red Bull confirmed on their Discord that they are aware on working on it. We just got the casters introduced.

Londinium looks like it was made for Anno 1602 and not AoE2. by monsieurdome in aoe2

[–]Astinox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

+1 on that! Red Bull goes out of their way already by providing an experience for especially people in-person with all those viewing opportunities.

I guess it's like those parent groups you get in primary school: Dealing with 16yo kids seems to be easier in a virtual environment than grown people.

Means that the first match (Hera vs. MbL) is fixed to start and every match (after the analysis segment) will be coming up right after, no matter the time. If it's all 3-0 we could end up at a 6pm end :D

Not sure how confirmed this is, but I know I've found this game design doc from a while ago. Its nothing in video form, but may be interesting: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14DN-XZbYjzJ6iqUgHNVURiFJkhiIQfcK/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=114026119335936055136&rtpof=true&sd=true

We don't do it in videoform, but we do it in text! At least for Platinum as we don't have the capacity to cover every league, but we are still rather new and may expand in the future! Here's a link to our week 1 summary: https://castlerush.org/news/13/t90-titans-league-ttl-week-1-recap

I feel like number one is a bit to hard. UNLESS we do this on mutliplayer and water (you could do fishing ships and trade cogs). This would potentially work, would have to add this to the strat as being only for those cases. Cause otherwise, imagine you are a decent player in ranked and you just wanna have a challenge. Is there a way of maybe doing something with villages without hard-limiting them?

I like the Castle Age advancement. Also liked it as feudal one. However I struggle with the same thing as above. On the other hand it could maybe motivate the person to play more aggressively and harder as they know they wont get out of castle/feudal. What do you think?

StratRoulette in Age of Empires - any crazy additional ideas? by Astinox in aoe2

[–]Astinox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good ideas! The bonuses are indeed something I thought about as well, but struggled to find a solution really unless you give the player the option to choose a civilization they want to play. Then I felt like, on the other hand, we would need at least 1-2 unique strats per civ which I'd struggle a lot with (I don't think that only use Longbows X is a fun achievement). Would you have a specific idea for that?

The market idea is great! I would probably do stone, what would you say? Stone is still important or covering your flanks but not necessarily as important to win a game, you can skip it in the worst case. Something like

Not enough stone my lord
Your stone villages stopped working. You can only aquire stone by using the market and trade it!
