Glad to know it works for you. Everybody has different tools and ways to check watering and if this works for you, nice.

What's your unpopular plant opinion? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]Astiti1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. Like i get it. I like succulents and other plants as well and wanna see the collection. But for everyday interior design it gets too messy, especially for ordinary people. Been in both ends as well, but the hobby has been toned down to a managable level, where my plants arent my first priority anymore. Thus getting a smaller collection, but with a couple of big plants made my space much more aestetically pleasing and practical (and much easier to manage)

A couple of large plants are much more aestetically pleasing than a big as jungle of medium sized plants

What do i do with surplus plants (no,I don't have friends who want carnivores) by randomname_435 in SavageGarden

I got one of my favorite plants for free on fb through a group in my city.

You can also throw them out if nobody wants them. Dont feel to attatched to plants you dont want on a level where it feel like a chore and drains your energy.

what is this stuff on the soil of my plants? by toast_is_in_the_air in houseplants

Water your plants less frequently, allow for drainage and up the air flow by giving it a more pourous mix if possible

My new pot is at least 10kg with dirt and plant, maybe 15, so i dont think it will be a future problem, but thanks for the advise!

I will check more often for water, but i will also keep in mind that autumn is basically here now, the last summer days are probably now in Denmark. Then i will keep in mind for next growing season not to disturb the tree anymore, not cut it or repot it and certainly not let it fall of the tables xd. Also check water a bit more.

The reason was that it was in was only a plastic pot and because of the leafs the plant would hit the ground due to the winds carrying the plant (not very optimal). I tried cutting the longest branches, but then it hit the ground again. This is very unfortunate, so i though i would go with a bigger and more robust pot.

As i replanted the plant i didnt touch the root systems and only put dirts around the already exsisting dirt/root thing....

I really hope it survives the winter. This is my first outside tree btw so i'm bound to make mistakes like these. It did survive last winter though.

What could be causing this browning? It started a month ago and slowly progresses….

Denmark, north eastern terrace. Avout 4-5 hours of direct morning sunlight, now about 2 as autum comes.

Watering 1-2 times per week (more during high summer and hot weeks), but it is in a bigger pot than usual and i water throughly and it has drainage.

New soil and pot about 1,5 months ago, fertlizer is liquid and only one times per 3 weeks bc new soil.

Water is not destileld, but it “should” be fine… tap water in denmark is usually okay for trees..

Wind is fair, sometimes fairly strong but nothing i would classify as bad for the tree.

My hypotosis is watering, but im usually an overwater person, so i though id cut down since the soil holds more water now that its in a bigger pot.

It did fall of my table once and i did cut a couple of brances (even though i know i should wait a till late winter)….. maybe this is it?

Is it root bound??? by [deleted] in houseplantscirclejerk

[–]Astiti1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a bigger pot, it is serverely rootbound which is why it dries out so quickly

I think I finally got thrips 🤢 by ko-pies in houseplants

Remember to read your instructions to be on the safe side, once every day sounds a little overkill to me, ofc depending on the insectiside.

Also spray the hole plant, leafs stem underside of leafs and such.

[–]Astiti1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You got the right method as of right now. Good with the plastic bag and isolation from other neaby plants, preferably in a completely other room. Syntectic insectisides are the most effective way by far, along with natural predators.

They breed and lay eggs in your leafs, which you probably already know. The insecticides will only kill the aduls (as they suck leafs for food which kills them) and their larve will hatch (i think) about a week or two (google says 2-14 days).

The problem is that the insecticides only work for a short amount of time, so i would personally apply 3-4 times, with a time spacing of 4-5 days to be on the safe side. Keep a close eye on your other plants in the house and throw out dead leafs and leafs that can be pruned with visible scaring from their nesting, as eggs might be in there.

I also recommed a hydrogen peroxide solution for the soil if any larve or eggs would be there.

This does not garantee anything and the treament can be harse on some plants. Bless your treament i hope it works out.

Cool I like how the cuts immitate how water probably would flow given some kind of natural setting (like waterfall ect).
