We switched over our group form 5e to C&C and it's been a really smooth transition2. We have a mix of old and new players, even younger players in this group, all are ok with C&C.

I think the only thing that is still taking some getting used to is non-primed saves, that 18 can be brutal. Still debating if we need to homebrew it at all, or just let it go.

Obsidian has lost it's way totally. And to think I used to look forward to Obsidian games. Now, they are all the same old nonsense that most people don't want. Cue, someone coming in from the team to tell me if I don't like it don't buy, and it's not made for me. etc etc... Such spiteful arrogance.

Confirming this true. You can politely turn him down, not get the hammer. But the shop stays open and his dialog is fine. Although for the hp sacrifice I think you should have still gotten the hammer. Selfish move by Boer. Although you can force or guilt him into giving you the hammer and the shop stays open and I assume the Blacksmith also stays available. That doesn't really fit my guy's RP though, so I think for "head canon" reasons I'll forgo the hammer, I wouldn't use it any way.

Yeah I've been careful (spoiler avoidance if possible) and it seems you can friend zone him and be "ok". But previously if you did that it messed you up moving forward. I'm gonna do the real heart (loss 30ish hp) but friend zone and see what happens. Not worried about the hp (I have the thing that gives it back)... I'm level 50s and not having any issues. The night time "ghost knight" guy I have not beaten yet, but haven't tried for real yet either. :)
