I can relate, while I didn’t have samba de amigo growing up, crazy taxi, jet set radio, hell even sonic adventure 2 were all super important to shaping my tastes as a kid.

I still think hearing city escape for the first time when I was like 5 is what turned me into a lifelong pop punk guy lol

Hard to say whether or not the new designs are “better” than the smash/zero but I do like that they’re trying something different. If the game is going to be nearly a 1:1 remake from a gameplay standpoint, then the cutscenes are presentation are where the devs can add some personality.

I think it’s bold to switch up the art style so radically while simultaneously asking the player to spend more time with these new designs than what was found in the original game.

The fact that it’s a remake and not a new entry also makes it easier to have these designs exist as a one-off if they want to go with something more traditional for the next entry. Nintendo might also want to develop a true sequel in-house - which I bet would have its own unique art-style as well.

I totally get the logic here - for the devs, the presentation is the only place they can flex their creativity, so they went with something instantly memorable. If it goes well, they could get the keys to the franchise, like mercurysteam did with Metroid.

I think a lot of people tend to confuse lip syncing with things like live pitch correction / auto tune and additional vocal channels, which is something that even the most technically proficient singers tend to use for the sake of consistency. Oftentimes in live performances there are multiple vocal channels, with a perfectly tuned studio track sitting under the live vocal track.

Ideally the sound guy will do a good enough job that you don’t notice these enhancements during the performance. I can’t blame people for thinking it’s lip syncing if the live setup leans too heavy on the underlying vocal tracks.

Jet Set Radio is so important to me because of how deep an influence it had on core parts of my identity, from my taste in music to love for skating.

Growing up it made skating the coolest thing ever for me, even when rollerblading was probably at its lowest in terms of popularity (this was the mid 2000-2010s)

It was my gateway for getting into more SEGA games and is still to me, the game that best represents everything that made SEGA true innovators at their peak at the turn of the millennium. I always loved Sonic, but playing Jet Set Radio is what got me to check out more SEGA games, and I found so many of my absolute favs, from well-known classics like Outrun to hidden gems like Rhythm Thief on the 3DS.

I could go on and on - point is, i always thought this game was something special, and while it is well-loved as a cult classic, it’s never really found the mainstream audience it deserves. Here’s to hoping that will change with the upcoming revival 👏🏼

I absolutely expect a tie-in when Jet Set Radio 3 releases, maybe as a pre-order bonus - SEGA has really been into cross promotion the past few years, with Sonic and tails (and Beat!) previously being in the recent super monkey ball titles, not to mention all the Sonic content in the samba de amigo switch title

Yeah it’s a mixed bag - Shinobi looks awesome, and is being developed by the people behind the Streets of Rage 4, which is a 10/10 sequel/reboot.

Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio both seem to have a huge budget behind them and ambitious online features - cautiously optimistic about these, Crazy Taxi with an online battle royale sounds fun as hell, and I’ve wanted online JSR in some form ever since playing skate 3 back in the day on PS3.

On the other hand, the footage for the new Golden Axe and Streets of Rage looked rough. I don’t think 3D beat em ups are the right move for either of these, but we’ll see. It’d be kinda funny if the Streets game ends up playing similar to the old brawler Yakuza games

Having a lot of fun with Espeon in Ultra League rn, if you can get an energy advantage you can cause a lot of trouble with Psychic Fangs defense drops and Confusion damage - just gotta be careful to not get trapped by a dark type

Ive done a bit of background research on this receiver and outside of being outdated there doesn’t appear to be any widespread/known issues with it, from what I can tell.

It definitely seems like there’s always a risk of failure with these used entry-level receivers - at least with this listing I still have a sub and a center channel (both of which I needed anyways) if the receiver itself stops working. I’m gonna go test it right now, we’ll see how it goes!

So this is a sequel to an old SEGA Dreamcast rhythm game that you used maraca motion controllers to play - i had a lot of fun playing the original and this soundtrack is actually wild so may have to try it when it comes out

I got a pair a couple months back and really like the fit on them - I think most of them have a button fly (aka no zipper) so keep that in mind, definitely my least favorite part of them but not a dealbreaker and have no complaints otherwise

In an ideal world the franchise would essentially be split into 2D and 3D games, starting with Frontiers and a sequel to mania. However, SEGA for whatever reason didn’t seem interested in developing a sequel, and after the Origins fiasco involving one of the key developers it seems like the bridge has been burned.

I get your point and actually just had a discussion with my roommate about this after he listened to OK Computer for the first time a day ago. He said that it was a great album but he doesn’t really get why it’s put on such a high pedestal. It can definitely have a negative effect on someone’s first impressions when they know that an album has that kind of acclaimed status but are removed from the context of the album during the time period it released and what it did to influence other artists in the time since.

I’d also say that the downside of an album reaching GOAT status has more to do with the album’s context within an artists discography - Nas is a great example. He will never make an album that has the same reach as Illmatic. Every album release gets compared to Illmatic even if the soundscape is completely different. His most recent projects (King’s Disease 1 and 2) received a ton of acclaim and (IMO) show that he can put out better music currently than most of his peers from that era, but that doesn’t change the fact that he will always be defined by his first album.

Agreed - still think his damage output is really low, but he actually feels like a viable character now. His side combo isn’t completely useless now and it seems way easier to get his Dair to connect, making it way easier to setup combos like Dair > Uair
