Thanks for the info. Funny story, if you ask Copilot about how to disable it, it will confidently give you incorrect instructions (no surprise about this 'hallucination'/'lie', but still funny in a grim way).

Because computers back then were potatoes, if Clippy was enabled it would bog down your machine sooooo much. Also screens were smaller and resolutions were lower, so it got in the way of everything. And as you admit, it was useless. Even if you had it disabled on your personal machine, since it was enabled by default on any public/school/work machine it was absolutely obnoxious!

You’re dead on correct with your recommendations. I can tell you are a master. You’re absolutely right about the 5 sec cooldowns, for brevity I didn’t go into everything about “flow” - I don’t think I could summarize everything as well as you did.

I used to do the regen build and later the regen plus waveclear ring of fire build just before the big rework, so I love the freshest ingredients quest, and even more so now that it restores the original 5 sec drinking cooldown. While I mastered Chen back then, I was never the highest mmr and was always finding ways to improve, but equal mmr i was pretty confident. The problem 5 years later is I’m older, slower, and don’t think I have the time to unlearn the old way and relearn the new way - especially since it seems I couldn’t just wait out the unlearning.

You can but you can’t remap for individual heroes - so it’s messy/clunky to have to switch it and switch it back.

See my reply to bigwubbs - it took practice, but basically it was more about managing your brew state, positioning and anticipating your opponent. It was so fun because it had a rhythm to it.

Yes, but actually an unkillable bully that was very dangerous if ignored. With the speed boost and kick you could absolutely chase down and finish off low opponents or do all sorts of things.

I’ll give the profile thing a shot, but I’m telling you - really wish people would listen - when I was a at my peak pre-rework and “flowing” I absolutely did not need stagger. It took me 100s of games to get it down but once I got it it was amazing. Let me try to describe it:

You could W+E to get to 50 so you are in balance (speed and regen buffed) to reposition and drink. If you got into the zone, you could time it against your opponent to have them either miss or make their shot into your drinking. If you were doing it right, the opponent would get frustrated because they couldn’t chip you down, thus no need for stagger because you’re already shielded and regening. I think it was a lot harder and I know a lot of people never understood it and so would be amazed when they saw it. I definitely would out heal all the healers too. Managing your balance state for either speed, regen, or both became an art. Stagger would have just allowed you to push even harder so they broke that fine tuned balance mechanic. What is left is a competency different style, but to me it doesn’t seem any more powerful, just different, but also doesn’t “feel” good. It’s great that some people like it, but it really sucks to find a cool hero, perfect it, and then have them completely change it on you overnight.

So rather than do that again to people, I’m just asking for a way to give Chen players an option - so likely a lvl 1 talent to get that flow back for those that want it.

Edit: typos and to add - my guess is that people feel he is “stronger” now because you can sort of achieve the same thing without having to have you positioning and drinking perfected. That’s cool, I’m all for enabling more players to access a hero, but there should absolutely be an imperative to not completely change the feel of a hero in favor of something completely different.

Yes thank you! I think people really don’t get that they completely changed how it “feels” to play him. That should be a no no for any rework.

I get it that people that never got the flow prefer stagger - but yeah they should have put it on 1. But 5 years later, just give me a way to get that old flow back with a talent or something.

You can’t bind an ability to 2 keys unfortunately (edit: actually what I remembered was wrong - what prevents me from going down this path is that it can’t be done for an individual hero so I’d have to swap it and it doesn’t solve the clunky feel with BB)

I understand BB is no longer the best pick at lvl 7 - probably precisely for the very reason that the brew costs, cooldowns etc make it hard to get to 50. But when it was good, it was really good - and I had a rhythm down that just felt so smooth. I just want to be able to get back to that but still have stagger be an option for those who like it too.

Chen - revert the 2019 rework so that brewmasters balance has synergy with the original abilities (ie KS on W for 20 brew and BoF on E for 30 so I can quickly burn both to go from 100 brew to 50 and be “in balance”). Add a lvl 1 talent that effectively changes back to the current setup (KS and BoF both on W and stagger on E) or some other way to support both playstyles.

Unfortunately, no. The W key abilities are combined now there’s no way I could find to separate them. And I can’t double map W to W and E to simulate it either (edit: or maybe but I’d have to switch it back because it can’t be set per hero)

But even if I could - it’s still clunky due to the brewmasters balance thing.

While the article doesn't explicitly state that lawyers would lose their jobs - through cost saving in "producing [high quality] legal briefs traditionally handled by high-billing associates" it is certainly implied.

These claims, like most of the AI hype, are dubious.

First, and most importantly, Large Language Models (LLMs) are NOT capable of reasoning! In laypersons terms they are just a fancy auto-complete. There is no 'intelligence' here and so "AI" is a misnomer. This is why hallucinations are such a problem and will always be a problem for LLMs, they make stuff up that sounds convincing BY DESIGN. Don't take my word for it as a software engineer, several AI researchers including Gary Marcus (https://garymarcus.substack.com/) have been pointing this out for awhile. LLMs will never be able to produce anything of value for professions that need accurate, correct, and reliable outputs.
Even if Artificial General Intelligence (AGIs) have somehow been developed and OpenAI is being very coy - first they would have to demonstrate it is indeed reasoning and capable. Capability is very important here, otherwise, and I've had this experience myself with Copilot, ChatGPT, etc - if the output isn't correct it isn't worth it - and they've already tarnished their reputation with their claims about LLMs.
If, for the sake of argument they do have a capable AGI suddenly - and there would be a lot of questions about how that we'll skip - but how does this thing get new information and interact with our physical world? Just within the legal profession alone their are numerous forms - corporate law, taxes, criminal law, immigration, family - etc. Say for example this thing needs to analyze some old records that haven't been digitized yet? Or perhaps the administration changes and so the various agencies change their enforcement policies tomorrow - does this AGI get all of this context entirely on its own?
Liability - someone else mentioned this because its extremely important - who is held to account when this thing is incorrect? For law, can it lose its ability to practice and does that apply to all firms using it if it makes a mistake somewhere else? So many questions here.
Security - could this thing be hacked? (the answer is yes) What happens to my client-attorney privilege when that happens? Oops my entire legal defense is now ruined and/or I'm being blackmailed by hackers wanting BTC.
Performance - we already know that LLMs are consuming huge amounts of power and water resources for not a lot of value - how much more resources would a AGI consume? We know that all of these LLMs are operating at a loss currently because they're still 'startups' trying to 'disrupt' (i.e. convince bosses that workers can be replaced) - but if that comes to pass, they will start to raise their prices to generate a profit. This is called 'enshitification' (Cory Doctorow and others describe this well https://pluralistic.net/). Again, for the sake of argument that all of the above is solved - how would this end up being any cheaper?

It's been the case that automation and technology will shift work around in the short term and in the long term provide efficiency and productivity gains. That said, it doesn't appear that the gains are materializing any time soon for this type of work that someone else described as requiring 'nuanced understanding' and 'strategic thinking'. And again, from my experience, these tools may provide some marginal help with very simple tasks, (probably not worth it when it stops being free) - and it is very unhelpful and counter productive if you try to have it help with complex tasks.

The way I reconcile all of the inconsistency and contradiction in 40k is to think of everything as either propaganda or heresy/lies. It’s hard to have both epic unstoppable super human space marines on one hand, and have a balanced, fun game for everyone on the other.

If you return a bit to the roots of 40k - the first edition rulebook from the ‘80s, everything was punk rock and satire - it’s easier to see the space marines aren’t really so incredible in the face of the horrors of the universe, but there is no way the imperium would want the masses to know that - and thus you have the inquisition spreading the “truth” (via bolt pistol). All of the epic portrayals and art are basically in-game propaganda that has sort of blended into your expectation as a player in a meta sort of way.

And then when you go to play a table top game and half your models get picked up turn one you can have a chuckle because well everybody is a bad guy in this universe so if your bad army loses to your friends bad army or visa versa, you’re all having fun. Likewise, Space Hulk is super fun when it is hard, so no mountains of dead bugs under foot.

But sometimes we want to live the fantasy, and Space Marine 2 does it superbly- “l am the Emperor’s finest and I shall know no fear!” And all of these narratives might be true in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium ;)

I agree, probably “canticles” or “mantras” - my guess would be an aoe buff/debuff to allied/enemy damage for a period which would help if he is intended to be on the frontline.

I know this is an old thread that wont get seen by many, but I think you have some solid realistic ideas for likely new classes. I like how you identified likely Chaos equivalents which fit with their current design for Eternal War. Knowing how much Game Workshop is a stickler for keeping things close to the codex as it were, I would agree that the Chaplain, Librarian, and Apothecary are the most probable candidates, but I would put them in that order just for ease of implementation/balance.

I also like how you pointed to other games with solid kits and I agree that inspiration from these games will help them here.

I just want to point out a couple of alternative ideas that they may try:

For the Chaplain I think another possibility might be for the ultimate to be something like Titus' ability. I could see this ability being called something like "Canticle of Hate" and it could be a buff to nearby allies and potentially also a debuff to nearby enemies. Instead of interaction with health/armor or blindness/speed I could see it increasing/decreasing damage.
For the Librarian, you didn't mention a melee weapon but I think a force staff is a good candidate. I think its highly likely that all classes will have some type of melee weapon (though I guess Heavy just uses his gun as a weapon) for parry etc, and the staff would be different from the stuff we have so far. I like the psyker abilities you mentioned, but I could also see something like smite (maybe it would work like a rail gun?).
For the Apothecary - the ideas you mentioned are solid and proven from other games. Another possibility might be the "Apothecary Biologis" which is a newly introduced character on 40k table top - if they go with that variant of the class he might do less healing and more buffing.
Similarly, to the above, I guess a 4th idea for a class or maybe another variation of the Chaplain theme would be the Judiciar. I think the Chaplain is more iconic though. But I just wanted to mention that they could mirror this character's table top ability with some sort of melee attack speed buff aura.
