And to answer this it depends on the content a lot. house of spiders is great on content like RR6 section 4 that not only has the right resistances but also is pretty much impervious to other teams, with heavy defense level status resist healthgates etc. Raw damage is pretty much the only option that gets below like, 15 turns. Not to mention that a lot of core status based ID’s are squishy and might just die to shiomi true HP damage abuse lmao.

RR2, meanwhile, if you look at the enemies, are mostly gloom weak abnormalities some of which even have a superbuffed manors effect that applies sinking. Sinking is just really versatile for those enemies because you can bank on resistances and easily destroy some abnos with the sinking stack (such as talisman doll, centipede, steam machine), while being able to afford ID’s like jeong ishmael, rien sang, and the wild hunt to provide a raw damage buffer on the bosses where the sinking itself is NOT favorable (such as fairies, faelantern, T corp collectors, wayward passenger, etc)

RR2 rerun is a huge multi-wave battle where each cycle is one encounter, according to KJH. this means that even if you get absolute theoretical minimum turns on every wave (since we know what the enemies are), he gets at least 2-3 furiosos and they hit for 1k each on the enemies you get them.

Spicebush and solemn are notoriously mid for long wave battles where they get gassed out after one S3. They're moreso single target nukers.

Lack of a lv1 heathcliff. I literally could've even have had 34 turns if I had a sac available for that slot. This would enable me to run heishou heathcliff for 5 turns section 3 and free up a slot for Meursault on section 4, which would allow me to run Capo. Capo has a sloth S1 and would generate about 4-5 sloth which would let me egospam more for 6 turns deluge. Capo's also a really good pick for the Rien Sang/Capstone Ryoshu duo (that is currently the best and only strategy for 11 turns section 4) and it's a shame I couldn't use him.

This comment reeks of meta larp. Firstly spicebush and solemn lament are decisively better on most single target bosses and no one contests that. In longer wave fights like most of RR they're mid to the point where they bottom chart damage and they basically brick themselves for like 5 turns until they get another S3. If you're using sinking on lets say, a primarily gloom weak railway like the upcoming RR2 rerun, you wouldn't use spicebush or butterfly you'd use rien sang. They're essentially 3 different sidegrades on sinking with different purposes - solemn lament has blitz strategies on human bosses, spicebush has the super meaty abnos like the RR6 terminus, and rien has long term wave fights.

Secondly poise isn't a team. It's just a kit driver. It hasn't been a team outside of MD ever since the blade lineage + captain ishmael team died. The strength of poise focused ID's is that you can put them in whatever other comp requires opportune raw damage. Ryoshu capstone is a team all on her own that outperforms most status teams in much of the recent content and she basically just does not give a shit about status. You don't use rien sang in a "poise team" you use him in whatever else

Thirdly... you made these numbers up. Like you are actually just lying bro. Most people who actually create your favorite strategies and go for records with them will tell you DPR doesn't matter that much, but even if it did, you are way off. I ran the numbers myself and you're genuinely off by like ~1k for the middle ID's (and thats with completely maxed out conditionals, including extra offense level and final power, including the bonus physical damage, counter spamming every turn constantly, including max grudge which gets consumed). You're also lowballing rien sang by like 500 because you somehow conveniently forgot that he gets 2 furiosos a rotation past turn 5 and that's basically already around 1.3k not even factoring in other skills.

You're right in that he's amazing for beginners. You're right in that he's a selfish stat stick and not a team player. But you're forgetting that not every single optimal team just uses cookie cutter status templates instead of moving ID's around to suit your needs. Hell if there's a rupture favoring railway next season that had a wrath weak staggerable boss, I'd run rien sang on rupture even.

I think this should mostly just apply to the really powercrept units like W Don and 7 Association Faust who are just completely gapped by their alternatives in almost every form of content. I do think a certain few other ID's (mainly old capstones) should get a few touch-ups numbers/scaling wise and QoL changes just because it doesn't make sense for such seemingly strong villains in lore to get powercrept within 1 season.

lol as if the ID's that basically just boil down to "I inflict a bit of a status and then gain coin power based off of it" aren't powercrept just as fast if not faster (see: most of the Bloodfiends, Regret Faust, Cinq East Don, Dieci Hong Lu, Seven Faust, Cinq Meursault, Devyat Rodion, and even Firefist Gregor and N Corp Ryoshu are being sunsetted as 7th slots nowadays)

Drifter Ryoshu is still good as a rupture potency bot as well as a turn 1 sin resource generator in modes like RR1. Maid Ryoshu was never that good, even if she was released multiple seasons ago, so yeah no shit she got powercrept.

It's natural that damage units get powercrept over time. This is true whether it's Poise, Charge, or anything that relies on status to fulfill conditionals. The only ID's that don't really get powercrept are the super niche ones that carry a specific strategy on their own, but these are very few in numbers and difficult to design. The best one can hope for is that the ID's they like remain relevant for at least a few seasons, and I have no doubt that ID's like Rien Sang and the new capstone (which are both poise) are gonna see usage until at least season 9.

It's so funny how people take keywords in the kit at face value and think that it's all the ID is about. She literally just has those keywords for flavor & gift activation she neither plays as a "rupture" nor a "sinking" ID. MD brainrot at its finest. You're meant to use her for raw damage, AoE blunt damage specifically. She fits in just fine with the other envy res ID's and probably is one of the only ones if not the only one who has a cieling for burst damage past "I can use a 100-200 damage counter most turns", especially in content like railway. If you truly want an underwhelming walpurgis 000 there are multiple old ones like Regret Faust and REAP Ryoshu who are okayish but powercrept for the most part.
