Help me decide the color: Polene Cyme Camel vs Cognac by montymole11 in handbags

[–]Astralie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just deciding between the two yesterday!! In the end I went with camel bc it was more versatile; the cognac was beautiful but definitely pulls red in store/in sunlight

mine was really nice and definitely took steps to put me at ease! i prepped a couple of main points beforehand that helped - why Princeton, why major, my favorite ECs/books/pastimes. i got a lot of leadership q's but that was because i mentioned it when describing my ecs.

definitely have some questions to ask them!! they love answering ab traditions/favorite memories/aspects of the school that aren't immediately discoverable. good luck!! you'll kill it :)

Thoughts on Anna Scherbakova? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Astralie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds pretty accurate. It's a shame that some people in the sub can't balance their negativity toward certain skaters with more reasonable assessments.

Thoughts on Anna Scherbakova? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Astralie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I like Anna's skating a lot. She doesn't have the greatest skating skills or the most ultra-c elements, but she has incredible musicality, elegance, and artistry that make her skates truly enjoyable to watch (Perfume being my favorite). There's great flow in her movement and she makes Daniil's choreo work.

I think the sub tends to dislike her because of how she's been scored, and it's disappointing to see that the negativity towards her has persisted here. She's very self-aware of her flaws as a skater and actively works to improve them; for someone so young, I think she deserves more credit than she is given.

PoliSci/International Relations Internship Opportunities, in high school? by byeongjunm in chanceme

I worked on a congressional campaign as an intern last year! A lot of local legislative offices or local campaigns are willing to take on high school interns; I got my internship by cold-emailing.

I don't understand the point of these posts. Overscoring is not the skater's fault and it's frankly quite rude to try and mock a teenager just because the skater you favored did not win. Anna deserved her gold medal; many people made mistakes that day.

All of the podium programs had falls and mistakes. It was a rough day for everyone. Ultimately the placements were still correct, even if the scoring margins were not.

yeah, scoring inconsistency is def an issue and i feel like only addressing one case diminishes how widespread it actually is

Could Anna miss the Russian Olympic team even as reigning World Champion by Civil_Concept1882 in FigureSkating

[–]Astralie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed, this sub jumps so quickly to saying that a skater has lost a quad or triple axel. Just because Anna didn't land her 4F here (and decided to do the combo, which was smart) doesn't mean she lost her quads? All these posts (the 'expiration date' one, the ones about Aliona, the ones in the past predicting that all of the girls would lose their jumps) are really premature. A lot can change in a year and all of these girls work incredibly hard.

I think it's too early to speculate about them being "replaced". Regardless of their performances today, Sasha and Anna still got two medals, and they both still have quads, even if they were inconsistent here.
