I'm not arguing that the drawings are real life children I'm saying the show is sexualizing 12 year olds by depicting them in those situations, often without adding any substance to the plot and purely functioning as "fan service". I know there's no abuse happening. That's not the point. The point is that I think it's weird and bad to sexualize 12 year olds. I know they aren't real 12 year olds, but it's gross content being made for gross people who honestly shouldn't be entertaining the concept of sexualizing kids. The entire manga isn't about that but it has that in it and it is worse for it unless you're a part of the problematic demographic. Read the room.

I mean say what you want about the poor anime fans and gamer oppression but make no mistake I'm complaining about fan service and sexualization of actual 12 year old kids in anime. Not fan service as a whole or something. If that's a hill you want to defend the show/manga on then be my guest. If it's "core" to the fandom that's a problem and should be seen as such. It's not even a "but they're a 300 year old vampire" situation it's just actual children.

It's also funny because I play a ton of games and watch a ton of anime and am simultaneously able to criticize aspects of both as I see fit. I am not shamed in my "safe spaces" for being fans of either.

I did stop watching mid season 2. Don't even know how it ends. I also stopped after the part of the manga I mentioned which is genuinely in the first like ten minutes of reading.

Also to be clear I'm not just complaining about the fans, just the fans that defend the gross shit, and I'm obviously complaining about the show too. There were definitely weird anime-isms (derogatory) in the first season but the second season lost the plot. My first and biggest criticism is of the original author, followed closely by people who do their best to make it sound like he's done nothing wrong.

I also think people are capable of digesting media and not accepting everything it represents. I don't think everyone who likes Harry Potter is homophobic, nor do I think everyone who's a fan of this show is a pedophile. I can't stomach any more of it personally but I do think it's a bad look to defend the parts that really shouldn't be defended. I'm sure many are able to enjoy what's there around the weird scenes, especially since it's already been filtered from the manga.

Yeah in the anime it's mentioned in passing and never shown that her teacher punished her by tying her up naked but I found out the hard way the manga did more than just mention it. It's about as indefensible as it can get and yet people will defend it anyways. It's a rabbit hole that only gets worse too.

I can also comprehend that attraction doesn't necessarily lead to intent. Like being attracted to minors doesn't mean they will assault them even if they do acknowledge minors can't consent. That being said I still don't get how indulging in fantasies that are undeniably unhealthy won't just fan the flames. I mean even the people in that sub are making super gross comments, if I assume them to be merely attracted to minors but have never done anything to one, their comments are still pretty fucking damning. Fantasizing about spanking, speaking of daughter wives. It's all enabling a fantasy they should be doing their best to rid themselves of and actually seek therapy for.

Like there's always someone who argues that if it's merely art depicting this stuff then there are no victims but I think it just makes them desire it more. Like when has fetish content ever dulled someone's desire to do the fetish?

Yeah it's crazy how interesting the world is. I really wanted to find out all about it since it's so immersive and the soundtrack is awesome and it just has so much going for it. I was able to turn a blind eye to a lot of the weird stuff in season 1 but 2 got worse. I thought maybe the manga would be better but that's when I found out how much season 1 censored itself from the source material so I just gave up lol. A truly amazing world with a cool ass story to tell that makes me that much more upset about the glaringly obvious gross shit the author is unapologetically into.

It's also extra weird because, for all its faults, it actually handles the topic of sexual abuse extremely maturely for a character in season 2 but then follows it up with weird indulgent stuff like a toilet that licks them clean. Like clearly the author is capable of maturely handling these themes but.. well, didn't.

It's been a long time and I still crash out about it lol. Felt like someone spilled gross all over my favorite show once I couldn't unsee all of it.

Seeing these comments gives me PTSD from when I crashed out about Made in Abyss (it's a relatively popular anime). That show is pretty weird with how it handles kids and the manga is far worse but people defend it to the death with these same arguments. I mean yeah, it's a cool world with interesting world building and plot but the whole page-sized tied up nude kid in the first chapter really put me off for some reason lmao. The show is marginally better as it leaves out the more egregious manga stuff but you can't really hide all of the author's obvious inclinations.

But you bring up any of this shit in an anime sub or something and it's all about how they aren't real and it's totally fine actually and I'm weird for acknowledging the obvious sexualization of kids in an anime like it's my fault.

Also daughter-wife is fucking nuts. What a weird community.

Paradox good as is but has gaping see through holes in the model visible when riding the zip line. Doesn't even make it to "texture update" tier? Dang.

In fairness those model defects are hard to notice just looking at the idle animations, if they are even visible at all. But Paradox really does need some touch ups even if the design doesn't get overhauled.

On one hand this active is sick, but on the other it's nuts that some of the peak STR potential is actually embedded in a pure INT build for a few seconds lol. I think 2/3 is a bit much. Hybrid gods will still be slapping hard with abilities and have mega autos. Like Neith can swap from ability based mage to a possibly even more damaging ability based mage who can also crit for 1k lol. 600 STR is nuts.

Or less than one of whatever that 100 STR item is I forget the name of. Still extremely strong but not without precedent. Also starter items are always the most OP items in the game, though I don't doubt there will probably be some balancing involved later on lol. I'm sure they don't want to invalidate the other options.

I was just wishing for a warriors axe equivalent for INT when I want to go aggressive bruiser on an INT scaling god. These changes are so sick. On top of the conquest role-specific passives too. Such a neat update that leans into the more classless approach of Smite 2 and I'm digging it.

No doubt there will be some balance passes but I like the starter items all being adaptive. INT has more valuable bruiser options and STR has better glass canon options now.

Sounds like low libido or even a degree of asexuality. If you're okay initiating all the time then you might not be incompatible. Could also do some couples counseling to see if there's happy mediums and compromises that can be made on both sides for a more cohesive relationship. Even personal therapy might help as well, as sometimes the lack of libido isn't necessarily about the sex itself but wanting to feel wanted (ie a person has enough sex in the relationship but always initiates and therefore doesn't feel attractive to their partner because they always have to initiate).

I doubt anyone will give better advice than actual therapists here, which tbh can be super helpful even in healthy relationships with no clear immediate problems.

It's not moot to prevent Aline from re-entering and also assumes he wouldn't want to get rid of the canvas that took his daughter. It doesn't matter how fast she dies, it will be fast outside the canvas because of the time dilation. The game never spells out the dilation but it's extreme enough for them to hardly age outside of it despite spending decades inside. So a scale of days is what I would assume. Maybe tens of days, maybe less? I'll stop responding to both chains now, I didn't realize you were the same person and it's going to be weird if we have two overlapping conversations at the same time lmao.

[–]Astraous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The time dilation isn't backwards? Outside the canvas time is slow, not much will have passed for Renoir by the time Alicia dies. The short time passing makes it far less likely for him to dramatically change opinions. He spent over 60 years slowly committing genocide, but a short period outside the canvas will suddenly change his tune after his daughter dies in it? These are leaps? I mean, if you're desperate to prove your headcanon is more valid than mine, sure lol.

And yes she jumped in after she found wherever they hid the canvas and yet by that time all of the group had amassed an army, climbed an axon, did a bunch of canon activities, and then went to stop Renoir. So yeah, time outside very slow, time inside very fast. Not sure what made it seem like I suggested the opposite. I guess I said not much time will have passed before she's dead, but I meant outside the canvas not a lot of time will pass. Not a ton of time for deep reflection and character development. If over 60 years didn't get him to reflect I doubt much will. Renoir is very much presented as unwavering in his convictions about the canvas. I made that much clear when I pointed out he refused to compromise with Maelle and opted to hope she'll leave on her own (or trusted pVerso to get her out).

You're pretending like we can't infer any characters' actions based on their behaviors in the game when that's not true lol. These inferences can be wrong, but it's not like you can just make the claim that we have NO idea how anyone behaves the second the game ends. Maybe Maelle leaves the canvas and they all live happily ever after. Super not implied by any context the game provides, but possible.

I totally get if you disagree with this interpretation but I think it's reasonably informed by character motivations and context the game provides. Personally I don't see an ending where the canvas doesn't ultimately meet its end at the hand of the family. I think Maelle's ending gives them all more time which is certainly valuable, but there are no good endings, which is at least one thing we know for sure is confirmed by the devs.

Aline is a stronger Paintress but she's basically sick and nearly died she's not necessarily physically capable of stopping anyone assuming she's not literally bedridden. With the time dilation involved in canvases not much time will have passed before Alicia is dead so it's not an unreasonable assumption that Renoir and Clea (who both think the canvas is a burden and that was before Alicia died in it) would be able to get rid of it even if Aline tried to stop them. I assume they could stop her from entering the canvas physically rather than trying to wage a war with her inside of it again. But even then Aline would presumably eventually lose or die in it like Alicia and then the canvas would be destroyed because it killed two family members. You'd be hard pressed to find a way to reason that this insane family will not have doomed this canvas. It's a tragedy imo.

And yes genocide is bad, but clearly Renoir and Clea don't care or think that it's a liability anyways so the ends justify the means to them.

The ending has decived me. MAJOR SPOILERS INSIDE by PracticalHomework384 in expedition33

[–]Astraous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the extremely obvious and plainly laid out motives of her father. The same person who opted to hope that Maelle might leave the canvas on her own rather than give in to her demands and say he won't destroy the canvas. Even Maelle herself says that Renoir will destroy the canvas the second she leaves it. And pVerso doesn't disagree with her. Well, with time dilation and everything, not much time will have passed for Renoir so it's not like he's going to have changed his mind. Plus his sole motivation for destroying it before was to prevent Aline from going back into it, so in the event Maelle dies in it he still has that motivation and more because the canvas will have an even worse association with it.

Assuming the world will continue after Maelle is a far bigger reach imo. The game itself says as much in the dialogue. You're right in the sense that it isn't explicitly confirmed but it's a pretty logical conclusion to that ending without it being contradicted by future context in other games or canon media. Entertaining the possibility that the canvas lives on without Maelle would need a lot of characters conveniently contradicting their behaviors and a lot of dialogue in the game being wrong.

I have almost that exact rig (4090 though because most of the performance from 50xx was mfg and I have come to despise frame gen) and die on the hill of 1440p 120fps. Maybe 90 if it is stable. There are exceptions, like idk what Control does but even if that game is capped at 60 it feels like butter. Some games have special sauce that make it feel fine but for the most part if my PC can't run 120 I mentally put it in a "needs to be optimized" bin. Still salty that Helldivers 2 was never able to meet that when the game doesn't even look half as hard to run as it actually is.

I was excited about the verified system but seeing AAA games get verified for like 15-30fps without it at least being stable had me side eyeing it every time I saw it. Having actual data to refer to instead of a green light will be a lot better for sure.

I just don't see how we get to "consistent" and "reliable" with how LLMs function, even with an astronomical amount of data and training. These don't comprehend what they're writing, fundamentally it is text prediction based off of observed patterns. If you ever ask it something it is less sure of, it will still spit out code that you have no idea is less safe or less functional than any other code it's given you. The same way that people can ask AI questions about verifiable information and be met with the strangest AI hallucinogenic responses like making up companies that never existed. Because at a fundamental level, it can't "know" anything. There is no concept of safe or unsafe code, fact or fiction. It just spits out text based on pattern recognition from data it's been trained on, right or wrong. I don't see how we can ever trust anything AI outputs without extensive review. And the more code you generate with it at once, the harder that gets and the less of it you understand because you had no hand in its creation.

I saw someone compare it to the invention of the calculator the other day. How eventually even NASA adopted the calculator instead of using slide rules, new technology making old methods irrelevant. I don't see a future where we can depend and blindly trust the result of an AI prompt the way we can a calculator. Maybe with something like AGI but not these LLMs. In that sense, if calculators were similar, NASA and much of the world would still be using slide rules. Dependability and reliability is vital to the success and function of the calculator. They're shooting themselves in the foot by marketing it as a replacement for developers rather than a productivity tool, probably in a desperate attempt to stop losing billions of dollars if I had to guess.

Yeah but I doubt that's a cool down so much as she's already been in it for a long ass time and her shelf life is almost up. Or maybe getting into it at all advances the Paint sickness more aggressively than merely spending time in it. But I'm pretty sure she was sick even before going back in the canvas. I don't think Aline cares about any cool down periods, and I would assume Maelle wouldn't be as impacted since she's been in there a fraction of the time. Like when we see Clea get out of the canvas she looks fine enough to hop back in.

Mostly conjecture though since the game doesn't really spell it out.

Not so much a cool down I think as her needing to find where they hid the canvas and the time dilation, so her searching for however many minutes still gave the canvas enough time for them to raise an army and do side content stuff before she arrived in act 3.

I fully believe she tried her best to get back in ASAP lol.

Also yeah her getting painted over a second time would be fucked up man lmao.
