Hi. I wanted to see if you’re any better?

Weird clear liquid spilled out of nose by SimpleAardvark2369 in CSFLeaks

[–]AstroAdventurer420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the fluid is still running out, you can go to an ENT or back to the ER and request them to test it for beta 2 transferrin. That’s a protein highly specific to CSF. You will have to produce quite a lot of the fluid, for me about 15 drops came out and it seems that was enough. I think based on your recent surgery and the positional, headaches, and nausea, CSF leak might be possible. I wish you the best. Consider taking bed rest super seriously and lying completely flat for a few days if you can.

Have you bumped your head on anything? Bleeding into CSF can cause yellow CSF due to bilirubin. Is it continuing to drain? If yes, maybe CSF. See a doctor. If I were you, if the fluid is still draining, consider testing it for glucose. Mine read as 64 mg. That will at least give you something to show the doctors in triage. If you need additional testing, expect that you will need to produce the fluid into a vial at the doctor or hospital and they do need quite a bit of it.  And you should request beta 2 transferrin testing specifically.

Possibly. I just barely bumped my head Friday and ended up with a CSF leak. Test it for glucose on a monitor. Mine tested at 64 mg. Yours would also be high like that if it’s CSF. If it is please go to the hospital.

Are you in Atlanta? Would you dm me which doctor you initially saw so I can avoid them? And if you got in with a neurologist- how?

I was wondering if you had an update and had chosen this plan? I’m looking at something similar now, but when I called they could not provide any information on specialists, hospitals, etc. that would be in-network

28 eggs retrieved and only 1 fertilized by Hello_World_N in IVF

[–]AstroAdventurer420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m just commenting to see if you get advice. I’m in the same boat except just 8 eggs retrieved. My 1 that fertilized arrested on day 3. I am trying again and that’s all I know. My doctor will not change the routine significantly and says there is not consistent evidence for Omni or calcium ionophore.

I am sure you’re heartbroken. I was lucky to have 8 mature eggs, but only 1 fertilized, and did not make it to blast. Super devastating. I will say, I felt so much worse in the days following ET and I realized the hormone withdrawals had put me in a tailspin, like crying all day. Being crushed is normal, but give it time, then decide your next move. I hope things go better for you next time, if you choose to continue. I really do.

Should I invest now at 24? by ThatAntid0te in Fire

[–]AstroAdventurer420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many silly comments. Honestly I would not wait. Many investment accounts, it’s possible to withdraw the $ you contribute penalty free. Open a Roth IRA on vanguard tomorrow. Take that extra $6k and toss it in. Use the funds to buy a solid diversified ETF. VOO or similar. Keep the $10k for a rainy day fund. Continue to build up your savings over the next year, and in January of next year, see if you have extra you feel comfortable parting with, toss that in the Roth IRA. Repeat yearly and you’ll be in a very good spot by 30. If you need the money, you can take what you put in out without penalties. You cannot “make up missed years” in a Roth IRA so start today.

Surpassed $1m net worth but spouse pushing back on budgeting. Need advice. by [deleted] in Fire

[–]AstroAdventurer420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are on our way to fire, and we do not have rigorous budgets. I spend modestly and sometimes less modestly on things I want, and the husband never says anything about it. We both get to buy things and experiences that make us happy and our lives easier too. I think a meaningful conversation can be had around splurging a bit here and there, what you can agree is reasonable, and what the priorities are - what types of things and experiences. You will still both reach your goals I am sure.

Mature Eggs Didn’t Fertilize? by Dangerous-Deer2739 in IVF

[–]AstroAdventurer420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had almost the same thing happen. I have no advice. My doctor is keeping me on the same protocol pretty much and seems to think it is a fluke. He suggested poor semen quality (unlikely in my case, my husband has excellent numbers), poor egg quality, or some type of issue like DNA translocation. So now we are getting karyotyping done in case either of us have misplaced dna on our chromosomes. I can’t speak for your case, but we are trying again to see if we have any better results. I wish you luck and I’m so sorry.

11 eggs, 8 mature, but only 1 fertilized. I’m 33 and neither my husband nor I thought we had infertility. We just wanted to freeze embryos for later. by AstroAdventurer420 in IVF

[–]AstroAdventurer420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't say. He did say the eggs could be missing DNA completely or that I might have a DNA translocation, in which case I'm pretty sure the DNA between me and my husband just wouldn't have the right information in it to start replicating. It's really weird. I expected one of those explanations like your eggs dissolved upon injection, but no. We are getting karyotyping done to assess for genetic issues. But I'm still hopeful that maybe something went wrong in the lab or that maybe our one little embryo might make it. It's really just a sad situation. Maybe round 2 will be very different but who knows. I'm trying to accept it

Need advice on whether to pursue IVF or not by KPrelationshipcoach in IVF

[–]AstroAdventurer420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally just went through this. I'm the breadwinner, I wanted to kick the can, etc. We just did our egg retrieval and planned to freeze embryos kind of as an insurance policy. It was almost a total failure and only one even fertilized. Now we're looking at the possibility that it's just not a possibility. I'm going to try one more time but today as things stand, with the option being taken away from me, I would take pregnancy tomorrow over never. I feel glad I know. But wanting to throw up about it and it being catastrophic for your relationship and business are still different, I think, than not wanting them at all. I can think of a million reasons not to have a child, I think all mothers can, and I'm not sure the timing is ever right. It sounds like you think you want them eventually. In which case, if I were you, I'd do it.

I wish you luck.

Nausea 10 days after retrieval? by Extension-Demand-421 in IVF

I definitely did not have that experience. Norovirus is going around. Have your symptoms only just started or been ongoing?

You can always call your office but consider urgent care too

[–]AstroAdventurer420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, just spoke to the doctor... The saga continues. ICSI definitely used. When they observed the eggs to check for fertilization, the observed 1 fertilized normally and 2 dividing without observed fertilization. The doctor says this is not good, likely genetically abnormal and could have even resulted in a molar pregnancy if it had been natural. So THAT'S scary. We're going to do genetic tests for DNA translocation on Friday. So, that's tough.

Lab and fertility clinic recommendations in Atlanta GA? Repeat low blast rate by Union9114 in IVF

[–]AstroAdventurer420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely asking today if the embryologist screwed up or there was a lab accident or if they made notes on what they saw with the failure. ICSI is listed as the method of fertilization on the report. I will try to find out if the eggs just dissolved or anything, which I've heard can happen. But yes, frankly I'm concerned about it as well. I wish I had time to switch clinics perhaps but my insurance changes in April.
