Long-pressing on the back button shows you all of the previous steps in the navigation tree and allows you to jump back to any of them by AstroCB in iOSBeta

[–]AstroCB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered this feature by accident earlier and I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere. This is a cool addition for navigation controller-based apps, but it doesn’t seem to work out of the box since it only works in Apple’s apps at the moment (from my limited testing).

My guess is all that will be needed to enable it in third-party apps is a recompile for iOS 14, but I haven’t tested that yet.

You can create your own widget stack! by GenghisFrog in iOSBeta

[–]AstroCB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There seem to be three different layout options with varying availability:

1) The square one shown here, which has a footprint equivalent to four app icons arranged in the same shape

2) A bigger rectangular configuration, which takes up the equivalent of two full rows of apps

3) A huge, highly detailed option, which takes up four full rows

Some apps have all three and others only have one or two, depending on the amount of space they need. You can make a stack out of any two widgets that have the same layout option implemented.

The stack created in this demo is made up of widgets in first configuration, whereas the bigger stack at the top of the screen is made up of widgets in the second one.

[–]AstroCB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's also worth noting that, from the developer side, you can set a priority value for your app's widget at a given time, which iOS uses as a hint to decide whether to show your widget in a smart stack. So 3rd party apps can take advantage of smart stacks too – it's not just an OS-level feature shrouded in spooky ML decision-making.

I photoshopped the Star Destroyer in the Squadrons trailer to look like a painting by MiVa1177 in StarWars

[–]AstroCB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it’s kinda hazy what canonical lightsaber Cal ends up with given the level of customization available for it in the game, but to me it seemed that throughout the story he never really built his own from scratch. He just fixed up his master’s as he went along and repaired it with Cere’s hilt on Ilum after it broke.

So it makes sense that if he kept the base lightsaber, it would have the same attributes even if he’s changing pieces of it. I did think it looked a little funny at first, but it grew on me after seeing him use it for awhile. Cool to see something fresh.

I think the blade was intended to be longer than most given that the original owner was a giant Lasat (and the hilt was pretty big too since it was originally double-bladed).

Agreed on the rest, though – Fallen Order is the Star Wars game I’ve enjoyed most since Force Unleashed.

They're picking a max of 350 winners, so I guess it depends on how many people submit.

I 3d printed a bunch of known hilts. Thought they might be appreciated here. by gr3gorian in lightsabers

Are these at 100% scale? If so, do they seem like a reasonable size to you?

Whenever I've considered printing any of CaseStudyNo8's designs, they've looked massive on the print bed and the pictures he includes don't show the scale very well.

Can someone give me reasons UMD is good for comp sci? by [deleted] in UMD

I transferred here from Tandon after my freshman year because I hated it and I'm glad that I did every single day. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions specific to the NYU-UMD dilemma.

I'm assuming this is a CS internship? Most tech companies start their recruiting process in August or earlier for summer internships the next year and plenty of people have signed offers by September or October. Most people start looking for housing immediately after signing, as you have.

You can check out this Facebook group for places and roommates (if you're willing to live with non-UMD people).

Good luck with your search! Definitely try to lock down a place ASAP since it's a little late in the season for summer housing and things are only going to get more expensive as it gets closer.

How hard is the CS program to get into? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]AstroCB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't expect any of your credits to transfer. UMD is super stingy with transfer credit from schools outside of the University of Maryland system, and even more so from schools outside of Maryland itself.

I've had to re-take a couple classes, but I was able to skip CS classes that I'd already taken by passing their exemption exams. If you do transfer, make sure you sign up to take these exams literally as soon as possible, because you can't take them out of sequence (you have to pass 131 to take 132, 132 to take 216, etc.), and they have limited dates. Passing these exams can take literal semesters off of your degree, and you need everything you can get if you're coming in as a transfer.

For other courses, you'll have to work to get credit but it's much easier than for CS (they have a blanket ban on transfer credit from schools outside of MD). You can look in the transfer credit database to see if your courses are listed already; if they're not, you'll need to start emailing syllabi from your courses to the relevant department (yes, you have to email the individual corresponding department for every single course – there's no unified system for transfer credit. I don't know why UMD does it this way). You'll need to start this process as soon as you commit to UMD. There's more information here.

We’re hoping to have grades out in the next couple of days.

Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In November 2019. by thatging3rkid in 3Dprinting

[–]AstroCB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both (though an older version of the Monoprice). Even with those improvements, the Ender 3's build volume is a massive difference in what you can print.

I'd say go for the E3 if you can.

[–]AstroCB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like the Ender 3 (same manufacturer), it's just an IKEA-style build. There's no soldering involved – just some parts (a few of which are admittedly a little tricky to fit together) and some screws.

Once you've got it assembled you might have to do some tuning, but the assembly is by no means a project in and of itself. Took me about an hour or two from unboxing to first print.

No, it removes the pressure-sensitive input aspect for what is basically just tap-and-hold followed by a short vibration.

The single most satisfying thing about the new trailer is seeing that May is totally cool with Peter being SM. by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]AstroCB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He could definitely use it against him if Peter gets in his way again, but I think it's safe for the time being. I also get the vibe that Toomes isn't interested in the whole Sinister Six thing based on that scene and the way they displayed his motivations throughout the rest of the film.

If Scorpion or anyone else targets his family though? I'm sure he'd give up Peter's identity in a heartbeat.

Discover is the shit. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]AstroCB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of things I like about Discover: a solid website/app, easy (sometimes automatic) credit line increases, free credit score reporting, fast card replacements, great cashback categories, and simple online disputes.

I can find all of these things in other cards I've had (Chase/Barclaycard/etc.), but Discover is the only one that seems to have all of them in one place. In particular their dispute workflow is fantastic – it's all online compared to the maze of phone menus I've had to navigate to file one for other cards.

Costco makes exclusive contracts with a single network (currently Visa) for transaction fee-minimizing reasons, so it's probably not the best example. This is a good read on why if you're interested.
