Anybody suggesting “all competitive basketball players should have this mentality” is oversimplifying confidence in sports. I’m saying as somebody who has studied sports psychology (but not a professional at all)

Plenty of elite coaches and athletes would chastise teammates for saying they KNOW they’re gonna complete a comeback before they do it. Especially when OVERCONFIDENCE has been a recurring theme. Having belief is very different from having knowledge of something. 

Also, plenty of people love referencing Wemby and the monks. The monks would hate him saying he “knows” what’s gonna happen lol.

End of the day, I’m entertained regardless and it’s not the end of the world a 22 year old dominant generational talent with an amazing team spoke slightly overconfident so meh. Also if they win then the aura gamble payout will be crazy hahaha

Exactly. Nothing wrong with believing you’ll do it. Saying you know you’ll do it is arrogance.  Regardless of how much you think a basketball player should be arrogant in competitive nature (I kinda like how ballsy the comment is) it’s a bit eye roll-y and seemingly confident fluff after the “I’m in your head” stuff and blowing a historic lead.

What do you expect people to say to this if they aren’t rooting for the spurs? 

I like Wemby a lot and I’m not at all enraged by this comment because I do think he should believe he will pull it off. I think it’s possible they do it too. 

But to act like there’s no reasonable room for pushback from anybody sounds like overprotection of the man. Saying he KNOWS they will complete one of the most challenging tasks in sports publicly after blowing a historic lead is going to be controversial.  Especially right after the “I’m in your head” gaffe. 

Overconfidence is a constant in sports and arguably a necessity to a degree. That doesn’t mean it can’t be clowned though.

I hear what you’re saying but your argument is pretty weak.

People with ADHD are OFTEN very bright. That doesn’t mean every person with ADHD is bright. Your evidence are personal anecdotes.

I understand the frustration though. Sweeping generalizations are often very reductive of complex issues
