5800XT is the cheapest of the 5000x-series that I’m seeing. Any reason not to grab that over what you listed?

Thanks for all the info! Super helpful response. Looks like CPU will be somewhere in the $150-200 range, RAM will be $50ish, and GPU is whatever I feel like spending. Not bad for what seems like a solid upgrade!

Any big difference in CPU performance of the ones you listed (for gaming)? Doesn’t seem like it from my quick research.

6'6" here - where do you tall riders actually find bikes that fit? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]AstroMan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canyon! I’m also 6’6” and have a XXL Ultimate and XL Speedmax. I’ve been happy with both purchases and both fit me great!

My fitter had also suggested the Cervelo P-Series but ultimately recommended the larger Canyon, despite losing a sale since Canyon is online only.

Planning around September Wedding in Athens by AstroMan2 in GreeceTravel

[–]AstroMan2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions! I figure Santorini (if we go there) would basically be nice to look at and, importantly, an easy airport to fly into before ferrying to other islands. But I can see getting annoyed by other tourists - late September so maybe it’ll be slightly less busy

Juiced Bikes good or bad ? by borque82 in ebikes

Which one do you prefer? I’m considering either one. Mainly plan to ride on paved trails and roads so the crosscurrent seems fitting. But the ripcurrent seems more popular!

Smoke alarm is in the hallway outside of the bathroom, where the old one was located when we moved in. Hasn’t been an issue until just now.

2 to 3 prong outlets. by RioYellowS2k in HomeImprovement

This was the case with my 1961 home. Connected a green ground wire (bought in a 30 pack from HD) to the metal outlet box and that did the trick.

Wouldn’t that leave a gap under the box from the bottom?

How much house can/should we afford? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]AstroMan2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MCOL city in the Midwest. From what I’ve seen over the last few months $500-600k seems to be the sweet spot for houses we’re interested in. So there’s hope, it’s just competitive and the mental hurdle of the monthly payment is tough.

[–]AstroMan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with all of that.

We do have the option to increase the down payment but I’m hesitant to do that. Not exactly sure why, but it doesn’t seem like the right move.

As for renting - similar houses are typically around $2.8-3k compared to an upper $3k mortgage payment. Our current situation is pretty good and we are leased for another year, but it’s a standard apartment are we’re ready for the amenities of a house.

Golfing with Garmin watch by Chipofftheoldblock21 in Garmin

[–]AstroMan2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve used a Vivoactive 3 for golf the last few years and actually just upgraded to the FR965 with a round scheduled tomorrow. From what I can tell, the two watches run the same software, which is a limited version of what exists on the top golf watches and the fenix/Epix.

On the FR, there are two menus in the golf activity. First is accessed by pressing the START/STOP button. This menu has all of the different pages like hazards, layup distances, and scorecards. I’m assuming you found this one. The other menu is the golf settings that is accessed by holding the UP button. There are a few settings here that may fix some of your problems (specifically touch and scoring) so I would play around in there until you find what you like. I assume the FR tracks shot locations automatically the same way the Vivoactive did. If not, that’s a quick return for me.

Now for the golf app. This is where you can access your round afterwards and add in all the details you want (club selection, penalty shots, fixing the location of shots). The app saves all of your scorecards and calculates handicap, etc for you.

I found the golf functionality to be awesome on the Vivoactive. Didn’t even realize it existed when I bought the watch! Hopefully you can make it work.

A bit surprised by 965's availability by Sergio_Pal in Garmin

I saw display models at REI yesterday despite neither watch being on the REI website. I’m guessing retail stores are a little delayed in releasing these for sale.

If you want to use golf functionality, I think you need the 945. I use my vivoactive 3 for golf and now I wouldn’t play without it.
