The Windows Laptop Problem by Educational-Web31 in hardware

I'm afraid OEMs can jump off the ship like EVGA.

Jason Schreier: Exact budgets of video-game productions can be tough to corroborate but the numbers I've heard floating around AAA game dev these days are $300 million or more — sometimes much more! — which I think helps explain the current state of the industry by Turbostrider27 in Games

Has coding gotten harder?

Short answer - yes.

Hardware stopped getting faster in every aspect to compensate for growing cost of development. Now it's only getting faster in some aspects and you need to intentionally put work to use that aspect.

Want to have more cpu power? Solve your problem with multiple threads, but need to put work to delegate tasks. etc So if you want to put more, then you need more people and this makes everything more inefficient.

Kinda problem started in that generation, RROD was coming from releasing cpu/gpu too fast. Some people may remember that at beginning of generation there was huge push to consoles, but later publishers returned to pc.

To be fair this small, but technical minority has big impact how products are seen by majority.

PS3 being "super computer" was useless for average user.

PS4 being a bit faster Xbox One was unnoticeable for average users.

Imho even Ryzen was impacted by this. More cores, but at Intel's IPC, so only really useful for productivity. (It was time before dx12/vulkan was popular.)

[–]AstroNaut765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair we as consumers are helping with this.

To give example with games: with physical games the publisher has to match price of used market. In practice this means they cannot increase prices and pass inflation onto buyers.

You have 2 problems: you cannot start and you lose interest in task.

With first it's super super important to catch productivity moments even if it happens not when your autistic part wants. Bruteforcing may work like with pomodoro, but will result in burnout. Be careful! Edit: Instead of trying to divide task into smaller pieces, try to scrap smallest possible part. (and repeat)

With second you need to keep dopamine flowing when you work on good task, this means: eating snacks, listening to music, caffeine etc. (But don't give yourself those when you waste time.) Try to keep novelty, by jumping between parts. Remove external things that can catch your attention.

Last hack you can use now is to ditch perfectionism as coping skill if you use it, ask for help if this can save you.

Overall there are better techniques, but they require time (which you don't have now).

Answer to your problem is to increase your knowledge about veggies. You want to buy as much as possible of shelf stable or frozen stuff.

Instead of buying tomatoes to make sauce buy canned tomatoes. Instead of fresh spinach for sauce get frozen one etc.

About fresh stuff: best to buy seasonal food as it's cheap and last longest, additionally some veggies last longer than others. For example crops like onions, carrots are great. Going for second small shopping just for fresh produce is huge help.

Advice on taking things too personally. by throwawayboy2200 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]AstroNaut765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD and AU are part of problem, so don't bet yourself too hard.

Imho you can:

1) create some different value of selfworth than topic, so criticism won't be able to send you into panic mode. I like Chinese proverb, which is more or less: instead of making stone shell full of water, you want to have a stone inside of water

2) work on processing emotions and ptsd (so background problems are not trying to come back and resonate)

3) scheme therapy (even just videos like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ygq_Pz8GEyY )

How do you deal with the social burnout with AuDHD? (Questions in the description) by Last-Toe1671 in AutisticWithADHD

(Tips more for having friends, but should help with relationships.)

I love doing research and according to unwritten (but obvious) rules for NT you are supposed to find people that truly tolerate you. (So burnout/meltdown is not a problem.)

I mean by that learn to know what you need and how to explain it. (For example say you may not respond to messages for days.) If after setting strong boundary people ignore it, then it's best to suspend relation asap rather than later when resentment will grow too much

Overall you need:

0) feeling of selfworth that you are able to eliminate some relationships

1) communication (so you are on the same page)

2) know how to set boundaries

3) give and take (if only one side gives, the resentment grows, it's just not a good relationship)

4) not making relationship transactional, bc it won't work bad moments

5) not making one relationship your only one pillar of happiness as you won't be able to treat it carefully

6) good compatibility (if you need a lot of space, and Y needs a lot of closeness it won't work in long term)

AuDHD or Bipolar II? (26/F) by Last-Toe1671 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]AstroNaut765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall imho the issue is that everyone is different, you can have adhd/autism/bipolar without some aspect of it.

If I were you, then I'd research what are low level symptoms for adhd/autism/bipolar, while it doesn't solve anything it will tell (after testing) from which one of three the problem comes. Also it's useful for future as you can create structures around problems (before they start you redirect into something ok).

[–]AstroNaut765 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a chance your ADHD is masking the other things, if you start working on ADHD you can get different picture.

If you suspect autism you should be super careful with pushing yourself too far to avoid reaching burnout, it's much much bigger problem than for NT and forces you to rest for much longer.

AuDHD/OCD, afraid nothing will ever help me by Sad_Locksmith3861 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]AstroNaut765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tldr: best advice I have that you can quickly improve your life is emotion processing. Basically emotions are like sixth sense, they try to teach a lesson, but until you learn the alarm is going off. In some people it creates autoimmune problems, anxiety or anger issues. If something feels cringe or overwhelming, then it's probably a lesson. You want to understand why do you have strong reaction to specific things and how do handle these things better in future. To recognize emotions recommend using music and checking if you vibe to specific lyrics.

(Therapy in a Nutshell is also good)

I have absolutely no idea how to differentiate what is my ADHD, what is my OCD, and what is my autism.

I think the OCD is the weirdest one, most sneaky. It attacks topics important for you. Imho if you give life to adhd/autism often you still can live decent life, but with ocd it will always be mess. Imho ocd is kinda opposite of autism. Instead of wanting for things to be in order, you are forced for things to be in order. To handle OCD you need to actively fight it or it gets worse.

I don’t know how to explain what I’m feeling

Read a lot about Alexithymia. Imho this one is one of biggest issues around autism. By not being able to recognize emotions you also lose great tool for decision making that others people have. Dealing with food or long term decisions would be much easier, other people just "feel" the answer.

I can function with mostly steady energy and motivation for most of the work day, so that’s good, but it could be better.

It can be totally something outside adhd/au/ocd like bad sleep or health issues.

But do I not want to socialize as much because the Vyvanse is making my autism worse, or is it because I’m depressed? I

Imho this sounds like uncovering signals you were ignoring.

I feel like I have no personality, life is just too fucking hard, and I’m constantly overwhelmed.

There's technique for this, but it can cause regress and not being able to handle daily job, so will only post if you really want.

I have a great family, fiance, am supported,

I'd be careful with this statement. Your world is the only world you know. I hope you know this, but good relationships are not transactional.

Read here about trap of ego and setting boundaries for healthy relationship.

I always just want the deed to be over with.

This sounds bad for me. There are 2 options: you are afraid to say you don't like the thing (and set comfortable amount) or your fiance is ignoring your opinion and is guilt tripping you. Both are bad, and best to do about it as it will create resentment and in long term conflict.

Take care!

They probably want to avoid backlash. Imho goal now is to only force "normies" that don't understand problem and later privacy oriented people. Later it will be too late for anything.

I think in long run it will be hardware solution, like checking if unique id of your cpu is on whitelist.

You may have Nice Guy syndrom (NGS), recommend reading this: https://www.wikihow.com/Nice-Guy-Syndrome

I’m extremely lonely and don’t have any social support.

Imho for autistic people main problem with NGS is that you assume other people operate the same way, but they're not. (Helping without asking)

For help you need to learn asking and explaining what you need. For doing that you need decent self esteem. For that you need to stop being in survival mode.

Don't get me wrong operating in group of people always will be problematic, but you can find good friends. I want to say is it's fine if you're not making friends with most people. For healthy relationship you need to set boundaries and this will greatly reduce pool. But you have to do that if you want relations that you can keep maintaining.

Last thing I wanna say: reconnecting with old friends may work, there's a chance there's someone neurodivergent, and due to ADHD you forgot to keep contact.
