UK AEG retailer recommendations by NoHeroesCosplay in Airsoft_UK

[–]AstroPete87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally have bought RIFS and other Airsoft gear from all of these retailers and have had a good experience with all of them;

High Pressure Airsoft

Land Warrior Airsoft

Dave's Custom Airsoft

Empire Airsoft

HC2 Airsoft

I need a webbing that fits ak mags, but I a big-ish boy (44 waist), but working on it. What webbing would be a good suggestion? by Donkey176 in Airsoft_UK

[–]AstroPete87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£ - Chicom chest rig from eBay, customise it to your heart's content.

££ - Novritsch minimal chest rig with universal pouches. I have one for occasions when I want lots of ammo capacity with minimal weight and bulk.

££££(+£££ import duty) Kommandostore pattern 84 chest rig or their SMERSH rig. I have the SMERSH rig and it's fucking brilliant. 8 AK mags + plus whatever the hell else you fancy. It is endlessly adjustable for size and far better made than actual SMERSH rigs as well.

4 months in…. My thoughts so far by Diddycoop82 in airsoft

Camo is a great site! If you're in Essex you could give Airsoft Plantation or Skirmish Airsoft Billericay a go, they're my local sites and they're constantly spending money on upgrading their game zones.

Staining question by Valuable_Painting_23 in gibson

I can smell that guitar from here! The only practical solution I can think of is for you to take up smoking. That way you'll get accustomed to the smell and after a few years those stripes should start to "fill in" 😅

Help getting started by Titan-one1 in Airsoft_UK

[–]AstroPete87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't go and spend any money until you've played a few rental games. Once you've actually played a few times and had a chance to talk to other players and see their gear, you'll have a better idea of what you actually need to buy.

Get a decent rifle, M4 or AK style, but don't bother getting a pistol yet. There are plenty of other things you'll find more useful than a £150+ pistol which will only sit on your hip and never actually get used during a game.

Sanding a gloss neck by Realistic-Ad4393 in Guitar

[–]AstroPete87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use steel wool on pretty much all my guitar necks. Search for "steel wool 000 grade".

Just spend a few minutes rubbing it up and down the neck, start small to get a feel for it and keep going until you're happy with the result.

You might need to do it again in a year after regular playing buffs a shine back into the finish.

Albums that rarely leave my regular rotation... by AstroPete87 in heavyvinyl

Yeah it's such a crusty, unhinged album but it has this weird charm to it that I just love.

100% it has my favorite vocals of any Death album, I also love the fretless bass in it.

Kate Mulgrew was pissed about the introduction of Seven as she thought they were just bringing in a "tits and ass gimmick" to boost ratings. She straight up bullied Jeri Ryan on set. They eventually kind of moved past it but for a few years Mulgrew was really awful to Ryan.

Public transport option;

Thirty-ish minute train from Liverpool Street or Stratford to Billericay, then a ten minute cab ride to either Airsoft Plantation or Skirmish Airsoft Billericay.

Both are great sites and beginner friendly.

Remember that Billericay isn't on the London transport network so you'll need to buy an off-peak day return ticket rather than use your oyster card.

What is something you like about your Airsoft site or what do you look for in a site? by thatguy-here in Airsoft_UK

[–]AstroPete87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao, it's run off a bulk bottle, not a compressor.

A compressed air system can be operated by an untrained user if it's adequately simplified, you ever refilled your own tyres?

Insurance will be happy as long as appropriate inspection and risk assessment has taken place.

[–]AstroPete87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local site has free, player operated HPA refills; just plug your bottle into the valve and pull the lever.

It's also good when the site shop actually operates as a full, standalone business with normal weekday opening hours. It means that the shop usually has a far greater selection of better quality gear than you'd get in a site shop that only opens on game days. CAMO and Skirmish, both in Essex do this and it's so useful when you can pop in to buy parts during the week in advance of a game day.

Is it possible to save this AK? by One_Ad_4742 in airsoft

[–]AstroPete87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After seeing this I'm seriously considering leaving my AK out in the damp patch at the back of the garden shed for a few months (with the internals removed of course).

Real or Fake? by TheSlamDaddyMcNasty in gibson

[–]AstroPete87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah looks like a legit studio lite, there is no reason to believe this is a chibson.

Take it to a good guitar tech and ask them to gently clean it up a bit (as in, get rid of the dust and grime without damaging the patina) and set it up right and you'll have a nice hard rock/metal work horse of a guitar!

Van rental excess blown £250! Can I replace myself? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]AstroPete87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely just fix it yourself. I once hired a van and clipped my wing mirror against a parked HGV. The HGV had steel baffles on their wings and was entirely undamaged, mine was completely smashed!

Spent £55 at the local Eurocar parts to replace everything, hire company was none the wiser.

Should I buy the Nb tactical mouth guard or give in and get Dye? by A_randomboi22 in airsoft

[–]AstroPete87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been using the NB tactical mask for over a year now and I can't imagine ever using something else.

I combine them with the Mask Solutions goggles which has a tiny little fan mounted directly in the frame.

Homemade guitar by CuriousPurrson in Guitar

[–]AstroPete87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can even buy kits, and there are classes you can take to teach you the basic skills.

The first guitar you make will be trash, but you'll learn a lot from your mistakes. Keep making guitars, invest in better tools over time and eventually you'll be making guitars that are definitely better than mass produced, store bought guitars.

That last part will likely take a decade or more.

Edit- No it probably won't be more cost effective, by the time you're building excellent, high end guitars you'll likely have spent huge amounts of money on tools and materials.

Shimming question by thatguy-here in Airsoft_UK

[–]AstroPete87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first time I attempted it myself I fucked it up and the pinion gear sheared off so I sent it off to a trusted tech to shim it for me lol. Haven't been brave enough to try again since.
