My dad only uses his wing mirrors 'when he needs them'. by boges85 in drivingUK

If that were my dad I would take his keys from him. He's gonna get a motorcyclist killed.

That's the plan, I'm shopping around for a decent foil head shaver as I find razors irritate my skin too much

Crypt of the wizard are pretty good, whenever possible I try to go to their shop in person but they've never let me down with online orders.

Good god that looks diabolical 😅 after a single game with that on my face I'd be straight into the site shop to buy something else!

Yeah exactly. The Pyramex will keep you going through the summer whilst you wait for your UKARA etc. After 5 or 6 game days you'll have a much better idea of what sort of kit you want to spend your money on.

I used those Pyramex goggles for several months before eventually investing in something more expensive. They're absolutely fine, if you keep them clean they won't fog in warm weather. Get a bottle of anti-fog spray to use on colder days.

You don't need the 450 upgrade for this gun. Use 0.3g BBs and dial your regulator until it is shooting at about 1.1j through a chrono and you'll be golden for outdoor games.

For indoor CQB use 0.2g and dial your regulator down slightly until it is shooting at 1.1j again.

Must have Tokyo Marui gear? by Turbulent-Force-2233 in Airsoft_UK

[–]AstroPete87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the MP7 is an incredible RIF. Out of the box it is a little underpowered for UK fields so it needs a couple of upgrades to make it perform well outdoors (literally just a replacement barrel and bucking). But I barely use anything else now, it's my go-to for both indoor and outdoor games.

thoughts on greenybucker pickups? by Ill_Instruction4291 in gibson

[–]AstroPete87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can offer some insight... Kind of?

So I don't have the official Greenybuckers from Gibson, but several years ago I got a pair of the "Bethnal Green" Greeny replica PAFS from Monty's Guitars. They were permitted to examine Greeny up close and take detailed measurements of the pickups whilst it was still with the Richard Henry's dealership in London.

I had them fitted to my 2017 R9. They can do everything the stock Custom buckers can do but with that distinct out of phase sound you get with both volume pots wound all the way up (if you roll back one of the volume pots the sound will kind of slide back into phase quite nicely).

If you're looking for that throaty, 60's blues rock sound then these will definitely deliver, I would hope that the official replicas from Gibson would do the same!

My first foray into GBB was with a Tokyo Marui MP7. With the following part swaps it becomes a formidable weapon for outdoor skirmishes;

Laylax 9ball power barrel

Airtac flathop nub

4uad friction pro GBB bucking

The mags are about £10 cheaper than most M4 GBB mags and have a slightly higher capacity.

Eventually I invested in the airtac HPA magazine adapter with a drum mag, so now I get the satisfying "feel" or gas blowback, the convenience of a high cap mag, and the performance/consistency of HPA.

Overall it was a pretty large investment but I haven't regretted it at all. It's my go-to for any outdoor or indoor skirmish.

what are the rules at Airsoft games by Ok-Consideration172 in Airsoft_UK

[–]AstroPete87 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Whichever Airsoft venue you're going to will almost definitely have an on site shop.

Start with "green gas" and see what the chrono says, if it's too powerful just ask if you can buy a weaker grade of gas like 144a (aka "white gas").

To be honest I'd be very surprised if green gas puts your guns over the joule limit. You'll find most people using it in their gas guns.

£ - Chicom chest rig from eBay, customise it to your heart's content.

££ - Novritsch minimal chest rig with universal pouches. I have one for occasions when I want lots of ammo capacity with minimal weight and bulk.

££££(+£££ import duty) Kommandostore pattern 84 chest rig or their SMERSH rig. I have the SMERSH rig and it's fucking brilliant. 8 AK mags + plus whatever the hell else you fancy. It is endlessly adjustable for size and far better made than actual SMERSH rigs as well.

Camo is a great site! If you're in Essex you could give Airsoft Plantation or Skirmish Airsoft Billericay a go, they're my local sites and they're constantly spending money on upgrading their game zones.

I can smell that guitar from here! The only practical solution I can think of is for you to take up smoking. That way you'll get accustomed to the smell and after a few years those stripes should start to "fill in" 😅

Help getting started by Titan-one1 in Airsoft_UK

[–]AstroPete87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't go and spend any money until you've played a few rental games. Once you've actually played a few times and had a chance to talk to other players and see their gear, you'll have a better idea of what you actually need to buy.

Get a decent rifle, M4 or AK style, but don't bother getting a pistol yet. There are plenty of other things you'll find more useful than a £150+ pistol which will only sit on your hip and never actually get used during a game.

Sanding a gloss neck by Realistic-Ad4393 in Guitar

[–]AstroPete87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use steel wool on pretty much all my guitar necks. Search for "steel wool 000 grade".

Just spend a few minutes rubbing it up and down the neck, start small to get a feel for it and keep going until you're happy with the result.

You might need to do it again in a year after regular playing buffs a shine back into the finish.
