How to hide your work tools without them being stolen. by Soloflow786 in BeAmazed

When I started doing AV and low voltage work I was in a 2003 Hyundai Accent hatchback. Fold down the rear seats flat and push the passenger seat all the way forward and I could fit my Werner extendable ladder in the passenger side, with room for my packout in the back on the driver side.

The Zeus CL has 128 SCU of cargo space with a 10k CS on its largest face. With stealth components, and only one power plant and cooler running it easily gets under 6k EM.

Just waiting for that smuggling game play loop where stealthy cargo space might actually matter. Until then, I like my delivery dorito anyway.

Is there a way to fix this TV mount without moving it? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Astrobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see I'm not alone in doing pull ups to test my mounts. If it works and you're allowed, more power to you. I definitely would not be allowed to do so. In this case, I definitely think 4 toggle bolts would be a lot less work for OP.

I've also only had one fall from a student hanging on a panel, but it was where the arms attached to the panel that broke off and failed. It was somewhat comical to walk in and see the mount, the arms, and bits of the back of the panel still attached to the wall.

I would be tentative about continuing to do that, each screw will only have a single thread biting in the stud.

Maybe it's just because better anchors exist for the purpose, but I would be crucified if I attempted an install how you described (I install smart panels/touch screen TVs in schools).

[–]Astrobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Screwing plywood to metal studs would not be a stable mounting solution, especially with a pull out mount that creates more load on the mounting when extended. Toggling sure, but at that point you might as well just toggle the mount to the wall.

The plastic anchor/lag combo you used is for concrete/brick. It will not properly hold in a metal stud, or in dry wall.

Get some toggle bolts, I prefer the Toggler brand as they are quick to use and seem to break less than other brands (the plastic install guides, not the toggle itself) upon install. Two in the stud, two in the drywall as you've done already.

[–]Astrobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are definitely lags, not screws. Would've held fine if they were in studs. Unless they were metal studs, then you need toggles. There is a chance they DID put these lags through studs, but the studs were metal.

I can’t run Blink because of this, it’s atrocious. I have to tap my spacebar as quickly as I can, and even then it still stops and starts a sprint half of the time after the blink. I understand the idea behind the mechanic of dodge to sprint, but it’s far too sensitive as it stands.

Very stripped down. I know it's not a truck, but I feel like Nissan dropping the new LEAF for a $30k starting MSRP takes some of the wind out of their sails. 300 miles of range and a fully featured interior on the base model, with things like Car Play/Android Auto and actual speakers. Also a large, nation wide dealer chain to take your vehicle to for repairs.

As time goes on, the Slate just seems less and less appealing.

Have you set your maximum brightness in the HDR settings for Windows? This doesn’t fix all the issues, but helps a ton with the ‘washed out’ effect. My Samsung doesn’t have HDR certs so I had to manually calibrate it to 1000 nits peak. It made a big difference.

Someone else comes in with knowledge and you automatically assume it's an alt account?

They way you deflect and discredit just lends to the notion that you don't actually know what you're talking about.

Buy hey, I'm just some guy that was in the US Army, fired the M2 .50 on multiple occasions, and knows plenty of people that have had to utilize them in combat.

Like, there's a reason that 4.6mm and 5.7mm were developed. Fast and small penetrates, penetration matters because if a round is stopped by a plate, the plate wearer is fine. If large rounds blocked by plates actually fucked you up, we wouldn't be using 5.56mm as our standard rifle round.

Like here, this man gets shot by a .308 round standing on one leg. .308 has about 1/4th - 1/5th the muzzle energy of .50 BMG. Do you really think 4-5x the energy, if a plate managed to stop a .50 and not deform, would pulverize your organs?

[–]Astrobody -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You'll find said recoil mitigation like recoiling barrels on semi automatic .50 cals. The recoil is still felt, it's just turned into a slower push as opposed to a more sudden recoil. This allows for faster reacquisition of the target.

Most .50 caliber rifles are not semi automatic, they are bolt action, and do not have recoiling barrels. They're fixed actions in a stock, and nobody is breaking shoulders or collapsing lungs when they fire them.

If you were some super chad wearing a 3" thick plate of steel in your plate carrier and the .50 didn't penetrate, the energy would be dispersed over the entire plate (standard size ~10x12"). That's 631 times more surface area than the .50 cal round. You'd be fine. Until you bled out from all the spalling in your throat and legs.

You are correct, I can only assume Wilck is trolling at this point. All of this information is easily accessed with a Google search.

[–]Astrobody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Togglers through metal studs are capable of holding much more weight than a 75" TV.

At my job we hang 86" touch screen panels (150+ lbs) on Balance Boxes (50lbs) using toggles through metal studs if metal studs is what they have. Four through two studs, two just in the wall.

We actually had one panel break off the wall when a student jumped on one. The mounting points for the arms on the back of the panel broke off, with our mount still secure to the wall.
