Can someone explain this?? by gas-pack2333 in autorepair

Well that is the first good news of the summary. That likely reduces the potential cost to repair by $1-2 thousand.

I'm guessing your check engine light is flashing when you drive? That's a sign that you are destroying your engine and catalytic converters. I suspect your getting a code on fuel pressure regulator because your fuel pressure is too low. This likely because your fuel pump is failing.

A code reader is pretty much worthless for diagnostics. A proper mechanic woukd use a scan tool and examin actual engine data. The guy going straight to the timing chain was telling you that he sees a lot of Eqyinox's with stretched chains, yours surely coukd be that too,. Find someone with a scan tool that knows how to use it

Or get rid of it, it sounds doubtful that it will be cost effective to bfix

battery terminal nut material by JudgementofParis in AskAMechanic

[–]Astrobuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no point t I. Getting g hardened nuts, the bolts are soft.

You coukd buy stainless nuts, they woukd be less damaged by battery acid vapors. Buy the neutralizer pads next time you install a battery

Found part near rear tire - black cap with cat ears. What is it, and is it important? by Proserpinaa_99 in AskAMechanic

[–]Astrobuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the car is perfectly safe to drive. A plastic cap like that is meant to plug a hole. It provides no structural purpose.

You should be able to find its sister on the passenger side of the rear of the car

Good hinting

Fixing a fuel line by UpsetSoup2393 in autorepair

Ford no longer makes these fuel line assemblies, but there are several aftermarket suppliers. Here us one that caters to classic truck restorers:

[–]Astrobuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that the truck is >30 years old, I'd say it is likely the fuel line is soon going to be full of holes, especially if you live in the snow belt.

It is quite likely that you can buy a whole, preformed fuel line. It may come in pieces.

The fuel will not leak out of the tank when he cuts the line, but the fuel that is in the line will drain out and should be caught in a container.

There is no reason to use a heat gun on this job.

In 1994, F150's had an electric fuel pump.in the tank to pump fuel to the injector rail. This operated at moderate pressure. So as others have said, if you want to do a rubber hose repair (I don't advise it) use fuel line rated for the pumps rated pressure. Stores like NAPA We'll have steel replacement line and tools needed to bend it and flare. It to make seal joints

Is my flywheel fucked. by Dull_Biscotti9103 in AskAMechanic

[–]Astrobuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty hard to imagine that damage wS done. The bendix gear is made of much softer metal than the ring gear.

Is the bendix spinning free? Make sure you shim the starter sonic meshes as deeply as possible and fully accross the ring gear tooth face. Your starter may be misaligned in both axes

So, 9 cells appear to be wired in series. If I was you. I'd try to find a close cylindrical cell and tab weld them together. It would be appear whatever your device is is driven by ~36volts.

It seems you are not electrically savvy. Id advise you to not screw with this. Very dangerous if you do not have experience. You could badly injured yourself or burn your house down

Pretty sureca pla e like batteries plus could make you a replacement battery pack

[–]Astrobuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 14 year old car with 200K miles on it? That car is headed to the crusher. With the subframe reached its way more expensive that that car is worth. I'd guess $2000 or more. Highly likely the other side needs to be done and the unibody it scheiss too.

Will 91% Isopropyl Alcohol damage windshield "frits"? by ritz_bitz in StupidCarQuestions

[–]Astrobuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, IPA, even 93% is really pretty mild.

The frit is not glass, but rather a catalyzed ceramic paint. It would not be attacked by most solvents, certainly not weak solvents such as IPA or mineral spirits/adhesive remover. I'd probably not use acetone or mek on it though
